Are you an 'if only' person?
If only I had more money I would be happier ...
If only I had a better job I would have more money ...
If only I didn't have to work ...
If only I could afford a new car ...
If only my boss would give me a promotion ...
If only I had enough to retire early ...
If only ... if only ... if only ...
If you are, then you're probably in the majority. People who long for a better life, more money, better job, but don't know how to set their own goals in order to achieve them.
Because if you don't set your own goals, then who is going to do it for you? It's no good wishing that health, wealth and happiness will simply fall in your lap if you're not prepared to do something about it.
You have to believe in yourself, and believe that you can make a difference to your life and the lives of those around you, and then you have to take action.
Would Nelson Mandela have become President of South Africa and seen the end of Apartheid if he had accepted the conditional release offered to him in prison, which would have meant renouncing his political ideals?
Would we have had Body Shop without the foresight of Dame Anita Roddick? Or the music of Billie Holiday? Or the Virgin empire founded by Sir Richard Branson, who suffered from dyslexia and left school at 16?
Would Mohammed Ali have fought the 'fight of the century' or been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom if he had not fought for what he believed in, despite being stripped of his title and his licence to fight professionally?
And so the list goes on. These are people who were NOT born with silver spoons in their mouths. They ALL had to overcome personal issues, illness or hardships, yet they not only changed their own lives, but they changed the world.
There comes a time when we have to step off the shelf that we've been sitting on, choose our own path and set our own goals.
If not, then perhaps we should stop saying 'if only ...'

The 49th Year $14.99 "Everyone should have a vision of wholeness - a point in time when all is well, within. Such a time occurs when we receive Christ as our Savior. We approach a threshold in life that separates our current state of turmoil, defeat, confusion, exhaustion, etc. from hope, rest and relief - salvation We so desperately want to be changed. When we become truly repentant and receive the forgiveness that only Christ offers, -- Oh, the joy that floods our souls when we receive this great gift This begins a great journey discovering the sure benefits and principles of a new and better life.> And so we find that there are yet other advances to be made, new areas in our hearts and minds to develop that we heretofore weren't concerned about, did not view as problems or did not possess the strength and wisdom to correct. Allow this book to inspire you to follow God to a new level of self-awareness facilitating a deliverance that will propel you into your year of jubilee > Christy's keen spiritual insight and her wealth of life and corporate experience combine to present compelling and persuasive analogies that will clearly resonate with the reader. She's open and honest in her approach, candidly sharing her story as she skillfully proves the relevance of her message.> In the 25th Chapter of the Book of Leviticus, God told Moses to give direction to the Children of Israel to protect the land through the sabbatical cycle. For six years, they would farm the land for their sustenance. But, in the seventh year, the land would be allowed to rest and be replenished of its nutrients. This cycle would repeat for seven weeks of years, or forty-nine years, with the fiftieth year declared a specialSabbath, a Year of Jubilee. In this special year of rest, not only did the land receive a reprieve, but men were set free, possessions were returned to the original owners, provision was made for the people, and kingdom principles were followed by all.> God is concerned about the occurrences in our daily lives and has made provision for our rest. Although there were points of rest for the Children of Israel during the sabbatical cycles, this did not fully address man's issues. Jesus came to establish a perpetual, spiritual Jubilee.> For the Children of Israel to experience the rest designed for the seventh year, a plan was presented and had to be followed. The people and the land had to perform double duty in the sixth year in preparation of the Sabbath. This preparation was critical. In the forty- eighth year, God commanded a special blessing on the land that it may abound extensively in preparation of the special Sabbaths that followed.> We must allow the wisdom of God to fully operate in our lives that we may complete our cycle of spiritual growth. We must yield to the righteousness of the Lord in Christ Jesus. > The liberty Christ promised came on Pentecost. Where the Spirit of God is, there is liberty-or Jubilee And our rest is present in the Holy Ghost. The complexities |

A Novel in a Year $16.35 'The art of writing,' Kingsley Amis said, 'is the art of applying the seat of one's trousers to the seat of one's chair.' So start now. Take up a notebook and pen, and write one sentence… Can you write a novel in a year? If you simply sit back and think about the enormity of writing a book, it will seem like a vast and unconquerable task, impossibly daunting. The way to make it less daunting is to break it down into its constituent parts, to do it bit by bit. Over the chapters herein, different aspects of technique are divided up into bite size chunks, the better to aid digestion. The book will look at different aspects of writing, with set exercises to help the reader along in their confidence and technique. It is designed to be read a chapter a week, with the aim of the fledgling writer having a body of material at the year's end which should form a solid start to their novel. Deeply practical, with sound advice at every stage, A NOVEL IN A YEAR is essential reading for any would-be novelist. |

Year of the Griffin $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Year of the Griffin is a 2000 novel by British childrens author Diana Wynne Jones. It is the sequel to The Dark Lord of Derkholm and is mainly centred on the exploits of a group of students during their first year at the University. Eight years have passed since the defeat of Mr Chesney and the end of the Pilgrim Parties, and the University is having problems. The University has financial issues, and is being hopelessly mismanaged by Wizard Corkoran, whose aim, or rather, obsession, is to be the first man on the moon. Corkoran and the rest of the current University staff think that the point of the University is to churn out as many wizards with only a secure, basic grasp of magic as they can, in order to remedy the damage Mr. Chesneys tours have caused. Although making certain that the students grasp the basics is no bad thing, the University leaves out a lot of theory and believes that magic can only be done in one set way. Year of the Hyenas $7.49 Year of the Hyenas is a brilliant, original, and unique murder mystery, set in ancient Egypt at the height of that kingdom's glory and power. It is at once a strikingly insightful portrait of a mysterious, complex, and sophisticated society, reminiscent of Norman Mailer's Ancient Evenings in its wonderful detail and feel for the past, and a fast-paced detective story that reads like the best of twenty-first-century thrillers. From the oldest known court transcripts in history, Egyptologists have long known about the mysterious death of Ramses III, involving intrigue, ambition, greed, and crimes of passion on a huge, though hidden, scale. In Year of the Hyenas, Brad Geagley takes this event -- a struggle that nearly brought ancient Egypt to its knees -- as the backdrop for a story that is every bit as captivating as the distant civilization it resurrects. At the heart of the novel is Semerket, the so-called Clerk of Investigations and Secrets, a detective half-paralyzed by problems of his own, with a reputation for heavy drinking and tactless behavior toward the great, the powerful, and the holy, a kind of Sam Spade of the ancient world, deeply (and dangerously) addicted to the truth. Hard-bitten, deeply flawed, he is retained by the authorities to investigate what is considered an insignificant murder of an elderly, insignificant Theban priestess. They fail to inform him, however, that they don't expect him to solve the case. In fact, they don't want him to. But Semerket is not so easily fooled, and this is hardly an "insignificant" murder. As he delves deeper for the elusive truth, he uncovers a web of corruption so vast that it threatens the life of the last great Pharaoh, Ramses III, and the stability of the kingdom. Even worse, uncovering the conspiracy means more than just putting his own life on the line -- for, unbeknownst to Semerket, his adored ex-wife Naia has fallen afoul of those who would bring down the reign of Ramses, and he soon finds himself having to choose between saving her and saving Egypt.... Merging historical fact and speculation with a nail-biting crime story that could be taking place in the present, Year of the Hyenas is a riveting and remarkable achievement. |

Year of the Woman $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Year of the Woman was a popular label attached to 1992 after the election of a number of female Senators in the United States. The hotly contested Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas involving the allegations of Anita Hill raised the question of the dominance of men in the Senate. In 1991, the Senate included two female members, but neither Nancy Kassebaum of Kansas nor Barbara Mikulski of Maryland served on the Judiciary Committee. Allegedly, Washington State senate member Patty Murray decided to run for election after watching these hearings. While Murray set out to raise the necessary funds, two other women several hundred miles to the south in California began work on their own Senate campaigns. The Shadow Year $10.99 In New York's Long Island, in the unpredictable decade of the 1960s, a young boy laments the approaching close of summer and the advent of sixth grade. Growing up in a household with an overworked father whom he rarely sees, an alcoholic mother who paints wonderful canvases that are never displayed, an older brother who serves as both tormentor and protector, and a younger sister who inhabits her own secret world, the boy takes his amusements where he can find them. Some of his free time is spent in the basement of the family's modest home, where he and his brother, Jim, have created Botch Town, a detailed cardboard replica of their community, complete with clay figurines representing friends and neighbors. And so the time passes with a not-always-reassuring sameness—until the night a prowler is reported stalking the neighborhood. Appointing themselves ad hoc investigators, the brothers set out to aid the police—while their little sister, Mary, smokes cigarettes, speaks in other voices, inhabits alternate personas . . . and, unbeknownst to her older siblings, moves around the inanimate residents of Botch Town. But ensuing events add a shadowy cast to the boys' night games: disappearances, deaths, and spectral sightings capped off by the arrival of a sinister man in a long white car trawling the neighborhood after dark. Strangest of all is the inescapable fact that every one of these troubling occurrences seems to correspond directly to the changes little Mary has made to the miniature town in the basement. Not since Ray Bradbury's classic Dandelion Wine has a novel so richly evoked the dark magic of small-town boyhood. At once a hypnotically compelling mystery, a masterful re-creation of a unique time and place, a celebration of youth, and a poignant and disquieting portrait of home and family—all balancing on a razor's edge separating reality from the unsettlingly remarkable— The Shadow Year is a monumental new work from one of contemporary fiction's most fearless and inventive artists. |
