If you are looking for ways to save on energy costs, you do not have to choose between a project that will occur during summer or to make during the winter. If you install reflective insulation in your attic rafters and floor joists, you save all year!
Reflective insulation works by blocking the flow of heat by radiation from one region to another. Product is sold by the roll, and most of the lofts will use about two rolls per type of application (rafters or joists). You may be able to get by with 3 rolls and still be able to make your attic.

Place the product on the floor joists in your attic insulation on existing mass. The hot summer sun will not be able to cross the barrier, instead of rays will be reflected through the roof - without damage to shingles!
