Year Lincoln

If you are looking for ways to save on energy costs, you do not have to choose between a project that will occur during summer or to make during the winter. If you install reflective insulation in your attic rafters and floor joists, you save all year!

Reflective insulation works by blocking the flow of heat by radiation from one region to another. Product is sold by the roll, and most of the lofts will use about two rolls per type of application (rafters or joists). You may be able to get by with 3 rolls and still be able to make your attic.

Made of cast aluminum 99% around a central storyline woven polyester mesh, insulation Reflective radiant heat effectively blocks to move along its natural course of direction.

Place the product on the floor joists in your attic insulation on existing mass. It is not necessary to create an airtight seal, in fact, it is advisable to leave spaces between the strips of the product to allow some natural condensation as the air meets the product below and starts to cool slightly.

Apply reflective insulation along the rafters in your attic using a stapler to attach long strips perpendicular to the joists. It is not essential that the edges meet, either. The hot summer sun will not be able to cross the barrier, instead of rays will be reflected through the roof - without damage to shingles!

Reflective insulation is perfect for people who own homes in the southeast, including Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida and Alabama. It is also great for Homes in the Midwest, where winters are very cold.

The product is easy to apply and can usually be installed in an afternoon weekend. It may be useful to have an assistant, but not necessary.

Lincoln is a resource for homeowners seeking to save energy, lower their utility bills with attic insulation, and improve the life of their HVAC system. As an experienced residential carpenter, Lincoln gained firsthand experience with improving the quality and efficiency of homes in his Midwest community. Seeking a more effective way to heat and cool his home, he discovered radiant barrier foil insulation and now spends his time helping others do the same.

Lincoln and Douglas

Lincoln and Douglas

$12.72

In 1858, Abraham Lincoln was known as a successful Illinois lawyer who had achieved some prominence in state politics as a leader in the new Republican Party. Two years later, he was elected president and was on his way to becoming the greatest chief executive in American history. What carried this one-term congressman from obscurity to fame was the campaign he mounted for the United States Senate against the country's most formidable politician, Stephen A. Douglas, in the summer and fall of 1858. Lincoln challenged Douglas directly in one of his greatest speeches -- "A house divided against itself cannot stand" -- and confronted Douglas on the questions of slavery and the inviolability of the Union in seven fierce debates. As this brilliant narrative by the prize-winning Lincoln scholar Allen Guelzo dramatizes, Lincoln would emerge a predominant national figure, the leader of his party, the man who would bear the burden of the national confrontation. Of course, the great issue between Lincoln and Douglas was slavery. Douglas was the champion of "popular sovereignty," of letting states and territories decide for themselves whether to legalize slavery. Lincoln drew a moral line, arguing that slavery was a violation both of natural law and of the principles expressed in the Declaration of Independence. No majority could ever make slavery right, he argued. Lincoln lost that Senate race to Douglas, though he came close to toppling the "Little Giant," whom almost everyone thought was unbeatable. Guelzo's Lincoln and Douglas brings alive their debates and this whole year of campaigns and underscores their centrality in the greatest conflict in American history. The encounters between Lincoln and Douglas engage a key question in American political life: What is democracy's purpose? Is it to satisfy the desires of the majority? Or is it to achieve a just and moral public order? These were the real questions in 1858 that led to the Civil War. They remain questions for Americans today.

The Essential Lincoln

The Essential Lincoln

$9.99

Eloquent, humble, and shrewd, Abraham Lincoln was one of America’s greatest presidents, and The Essential Lincoln brings together his most defining speeches, public and private correspondence, and personal notations in one slim, handsome volume. Lincoln historian Orville Vernon Burton has culled the thousands of pages of the complete works of Lincoln for the most compelling and revealing pieces. Many are presented unabridged, including Lincoln’s speech at Cooper Union in February 1860; his August 1862 letter to Horace Greeley; the Gettysburg Address; and his second inaugural address. Others have been skillfully edited down to reveal the essence of Lincoln’s beliefs and aspirations, including two of his decisive debates with Stephen A. Douglas, the Emancipation Proclamation, and his first inaugural address. From his earliest writings as a loquacious twenty-three-year-old in New Salem to his last public address from the White House balcony, these original documents give life to Lincoln’s deeply rooted beliefs: his unflagging dedication to a united America, his reverence for the rule of law, his feelings on slavery and each human being’s inalienable natural rights, his boundless commitment to mankind’s innate intelligence and morality. What emerges is a portrait of a stunning American and a compelling historical icon, one who represents the highest ideals we have for our country and for ourselves. This collection is quite simply The Essential Lincoln .

Lincoln`s Melancholy

Lincoln`s Melancholy

$50.18

In this biographical study of Abraham Lincoln, Joshua Wolf Shenk explores the lifelong melancholy which characterized Lincoln`s personality and how Lincoln harnessed it to achieve greatness. Drawing on primary source material, such as the many oral histories from Lincoln`s contemporaries, as well as on current biographies and research into depression, Shenk argues that Lincoln fits the profile of a depressive, both in conformity with the DSM, or by the standards of Lincoln`s own time. Shank presents evidence that Lincoln had suicidal thoughts, and examines "the actual events of his life and the framework that he and his contemporaries applied to his condition." Shenk draws comparisons to the melancholy that was said to inform creative souls, such as writers, poets, and painters as he states that Lincoln`s unique ability to integrate his melancholic humors helped him achieve greatness. A New York Times Notable Book of the Year for 2005.

Lincoln Capri

$68.51

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Lincoln Capri was a fullsize automobile sold by Fords Lincoln luxury division. It was introduced for the 1952 model year and discontinued soon after the 1959 model year. Competing against the Cadillac Series 62 and Packard Series 400, 14,342 Capris were sold in its debut year, and nearly double that, 26,640, in 1953. It readily outsold its stablemate, the Cosmopolitan, each year until the Cosmopolitans demise. The Capri was named the safest car for 1955 by Life. It shared body designs with the Ford Victoria. In 1955, the Capri featured a new 225 hp (168 kW) 341 in (5.6 L) V8 (with greater displacement and, at 8.5:1, higher compression than before), featuring fourbarrel (fourchoke) carburetor, mated to a standard (Fordbuilt) 3speed TurboDrive automatic transmission. Air conditioning became standard equipment on all Lincolns (except the Capri convertible) in 1955, but heater, defroster, and radio remained optional. The Sword of Lincoln

The Sword of Lincoln

$12.99

The Sword of Lincoln is the first authoritative single-volume history of the Army of the Potomac in many years. From Bull Run to Gettysburg to Appomattox, the Army of the Potomac repeatedly fought -- and eventually defeated -- Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia. Jeffry D. Wert, one of our finest Civil War historians, brings to life the battles, the generals, and the common soldiers who fought for the Union and ultimately prevailed. The obligation throughout the Civil War to defend the capital, Washington, D.C., infused a defensive mentality in the soldiers of the Army of the Potomac. They began ignominiously with defeat at Bull Run. Suffering under a succession of flawed commanders -- McClellan, Burnside, and Hooker -- they endured a string of losses until at last they won a decisive battle at Gettysburg under a brand-new commander, General George Meade. Within a year, the Army of the Potomac would come under the overall leadership of the Union's new general-in-chief, Ulysses S. Grant. Under Grant, the army marched through the Virginia countryside, stalking Lee and finally trapping him and the remnants of his army at Appomattox. Wert takes us into the heart of the action with the ordinary soldiers of the Irish Brigade, the Iron Brigade, the Excelsior Brigade, and other units, contrasting their experiences with those of their Confederate adversaries. He draws on letters and diaries, some of them previously unpublished, to show us what army life was like. Throughout his history, Wert shows how Lincoln carefully oversaw the operations of the Army of the Potomac, learning as the war progressed, until he found in Grant the commander he'd long sought. With a swiftly moving narrative style and perceptive analysis, The Sword of Lincoln is destined to become the modern account of the army that was so central to the history of the Civil War.

Lincoln Shot So begins this intimate portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Conceived as a one year anniversary edition of a newspaper, dated April 14, 1866, strongly evocative of the time and the nation’s mood. The moment-by-moment recital of the events of the day that ended in assassination holds readers enthralled awaiting the tragic end. The account of the flight, capture, and hanging of some of the conspirators is riveting. From there, Denenberg moves to the log cabin in Kentucky and Lincoln’s life unfolds. The boy, the man, the husband and the father is portrayed as a trifle clumsy, often unsure of himself, and plagued by dark moods. Denenberg’s Lincoln is ambitious and modest. He struggles with his role as leader as the Civil War nears. In the third part of the book, the year-by-year account of the Civil War is seen through Lincoln’s eyes. Every defeat and every victory deepens his struggle and resolve.Award-winning artist Christopher Bing evokes an 1866 newspaper with pen-and-ink scenes from Lincoln’s life: Lincoln wrestling Jack Armstrong, Lincoln taking vows with Mary Todd, Grant and Lee at Appomattox, and Booth shooting Lincoln.  Rich Deas, book designer, has folded Bing’s art and sourced archival images into layouts that are undistinguishable for 1866 newspaper design. Every facet of design, from frames to advertisements, has been exactingly molded to evoke the era. The oversized vertical trim underscores the newspaper look and feel. Meticulously researched and exquisitely designed, Lincoln Shot is a uniquely inviting and accessible tribute to Lincoln, whose birth bicentennial is February 12, 2009.

Lincoln`s Melancholy (Paperback)

Lincoln`s Melancholy (Paperback)

The Case of Abraham Lincoln

The Case of Abraham Lincoln

$9.99

The year 1856 was a pivotal one for this country, witnessing the birth of the Republican Party as we know it.  But it was also a critical year in the troubled political life of Abraham Lincoln.  As a lawyer, he tried his most scandalous murder case.  At the same time, he made a decision which unleashed his soaring abilities for the first time, a decision which reverberates to this day: whether or not to join the new Republican Party.   The Case of Abraham Lincoln offers the first-ever account of the suspenseful Anderson Murder Case, and Lincoln’s role in it.  Bestselling historian Fenster not only examines the case that changed Lincoln’s fate, but portrays his day-to-day life as a circuit lawyer and how it shaped him as a politician. In a book that draws a picture of Lincoln in court and at home during that memorable season of 1856, Fenster also offers a close-up look at Lincoln’s political work, much of it masterful, some of it adventurous, in building the party that would change his fate – and that of the nation.

Year of Meteors: Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, and the Election that Brought on the Civil War

Year of Meteors: Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, and the Election that Brought on the Civil War

$4.99

In early 1860, pundits across America confidently predicted the election of Illinois senator Stephen A. Douglas in the coming presidential race. Douglas, after all, led the only party that bridged North and South. But the Democrats would split over the issue of slavery, leading Southerners in the party to run their own presidential slate. This opened the door for the upstart Republicans, exclusively Northern, to steal the Oval Office. Dark horse Abraham Lincoln, not the first choice even of his own party, won the presidency with a record-low 39.8 percent of the popular vote. Acclaimed scholar Douglas R. Egerton chronicles the contest with a historian's keen insight and a veteran political reporter's eye for detail. Vividly, Egerton re-creates the cascade of unforeseen events that confounded political bosses, set North and South on the road to disunion, and put not Stephen Douglas, but his greatest rival, in the White House. We see Lincoln and his team outmaneuvering more prominent Republicans, like New York's grandiose William Seward, while Democratic conventions collapse in confusion. And we see the gifted, flawed Douglas marking his finest hour in defeat, as he strives, and fails, to save the Union. Year of Meteors delivers a teeming cast of characters, minor and major, and a breakneck narrative of this most momentous year in American history.

Gore Vidal's Lincoln/The Colt -

$5.99

Includes:Gore Vidal's Lincoln (1988) The Colt (2005) Gore Vidal's Lincoln Originally telecast in two parts on March 27 and 28 of 1988, Lincoln was adapted from the bestselling "factual fiction" by Gore Vidal. Sam Waterston stars as Abraham Lincoln, with Mary Tyler Moore frighteningly convincing as the tragic Mary Todd Lincoln. Predictably, Part One of Lincoln deals with the inauguration, the outbreak of War, and the president's tiltings with his cabinet, while Part Two includes the Emancipation Proclamation, the appointment of General Grant (James Gammon), and the assassination. The throughline of the script is the deteriorating mental condition of Mary Lincoln, not to mention her injurious impulsiveness: at one point, Honest Abe must cover up the fact that Mary has stolen a copy of his inaugural speech and sold it. Evidently, the name of Gore Vidal was not considered enough of a drawing card by the NBC publicists, who insisted upon advertising Lincoln as the second coming of Gone With the Wind, adding the teaser tagline "The Untold Story." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Colt The made-for-cable The Colt takes place in Virginia in the fourth year of the Civil War. The mare owned by young Jim Rabb (Ryan Merriman) of the First Michigan Cavalry gives birth to a colt, which battle-weary Sgt. Longacre (Steve Bacic) orders Jim to shoot so as not to slow down the other soldiers in the unit. Jim refuses to do so, risking severe disciplinary action. As it turns out, the Confederates strike before Longacre does, stealing both colt and mare. Again defying orders, Jim heads out alone to rescue his beloved horses, saving the life of a dying Rebel prisoner along the way. Ultimately, the colt proves to be an inspiration to Jim's comrades in arms, and is duly immortalized by another member of the First Michigan, army artist Covington (Darcy Belsher). An uplifting tale of unassailable innocence in the midst of America's bloodiest war, The Colt made its Hallmark channel debut on July 9, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
