EBay has a reputation as a great location for wholesalers to sell their wares. However, most individuals have little knowledge about how to access large wholesale lots and sell them for consistent profits on eBay. There are several sources of wholesale lots, however the main opportunities are in the areas of foreign importers and dropshippers. Both dropshippers and wholesalers have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. While importers can provide large lots of items at a discounted price, the buyer is often forced to pay up-front for the items. Dropshipping gives the eBay seller access to a catalog of over one million items, with little or no up-front costs involved.
Wholesale lots from foreign importers: a risky option
Wholesale importers are most commonly used by the large eBay powersellers. They require the seller to have access to large amounts of cash and the willingness to hold inventory for extended periods of time. Language barriers can also come into play, as importers may or may not speak the native language of the eBay seller. Since these importers are located outside the country, the eBay seller must wait until the items arrive to then ship them onto the customer. The frequent trips to the post office often make selling on eBay using importers a frustrating task indeed.
Wholesale dropshipping: access to over one million products with no up-front costs
A wholesale dropshipper solves many of these problems. A dropshipping membership gives the eBay seller access to over one million items at below wholesale prices. Many dropshippers offer a free trial period for the eBay business to decide if the products are right for their market. After researching the many product categories, the eBay seller simply chooses a product and lists it on eBay. The seller is only required to pay for the product once it has already sold on eBay. If the item does not sell, the eBay business is not obligated to pay for the product and moves onto the next successful auction. Once the seller has received the winning bidders payment and shipping information, they pass this information onto the dropshipper, who then ships the item directly to the customer's doorstep. Throughout the process there are no trips to the post office and no inventory to hold.
Dropshipping wholesale lots: the top choice for small eBay business
Clearly there are distinct differences in the two major sources of wholesale lots. While importers give access to larger lots, the eBay business is burdened with upfront costs, reliability issues and constant trips to the post office. The wholesale dropshipper offers many of the same lots at greatly reduced risk to the eBay business and customer. In the end, purchasing wholesale lots through a dropshipper presents a distinct advantage for small eBay businesses looking to get started or expand their product line.
