The 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar was made at Philadelphia, New Orleans, Carson City and San Francisco. Many people want to what an 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar is worth or is it better to have a 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar first year of issue.
As with anything else the condition of your coin is very important for this year you want to have in brilliant uncirculated condition. With the exception of Carson City and San Francisco the other mints for this year will have a value under $50 if not bu.
We will take a look at mints so we can have a better picture for this year.
1883 Philadelphia: As you may or may not know mint state 60 or better is where brilliant uncirculated begins if you believe you have a coin in mint sate 65 or above consider getting it graded. Do not let the toning on a coin fool you the Morgan Dollar you see here is actually in "ms" 68 condition doesn't get better than that.
Mint mark: None Philadelphia Circulation strikes: 12,290,000 Proofs: 1,039
Mint mark: O for New Orleans, Louisiana under bow on reverse. Proofs: est. 12
1883-s Silver Dollar: A real beauty this can be a tough one to get in bu if you have a mint state 60 or better get it graded as it can jump hundreds to thousands in the upper ranges for 1 point it is rare in gem bu,Proof likes also tend to be higher.
Mint mark: S for San Francisco directly under bow on the reverse Circulation strikes: 6,250,000
1883-cc Morgan Silver Dollar: If you could only afford to have 1 Carson City go for this 1 though of course i would say to have them all. This year is not rare for Carson City however the coin does have a good track record when compared with some other years.
Circulation strikes: 1,204,000 Mint mark: CC Carson City under the bow on the reverse.
When it comes to Carson City Morgan silver Dollars You can never have too many, only %2 of all Morgan Silver Dollars came from the Carson City Mint. People collect in all different ways if you collect by year go for the 1883-cc, if you have a higher budget choose the 1883-s.
