Great Plains data export tools and recommendations

If you work with the ERP version, where your data is stored in Microsoft SQL Server, the export of data or access the table in the reports is not an option. There are many people who are still on older versions of Great Plains, including the dynamics Select the Pervasive SQL (often referred to as Btrieve, which was the original supplier) or Ctree. And also we would like to discuss by Great Plains DOS version, called AMP for DOS. In cases exotic, we see a limited number of customers using the Mac platform DPM, or execution its archaic Windows interface. The methodical sort, you can try, depending on what your situation is. Feel free to skip sections describing something you do not and go directly to the paragraph of your solution:

1. preview Btrieve data access and compatibility GP history versions. The DB platform has traditionally been considered less expensive compared to high-end SQL (like Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, Progress, Sybase, etc.). If you are a consultant with over ten years ERP experience, you probably remember yourself in 1990th GP installation on your laptop on Ctree for sales presentations and demos functions. It is unlikely to find customers who are still in production with Business ERP Ctree. Historically, it was popular trend in 1995, when Apple Computer introduced its PowerPC version, where the dynamic is available for Mac Ctree / Faircom (later preferred customers to upgrade to Windows Server Btrieve, due to the slow processing of transactions)

3. Btrieve / Pervasive technology for data access. It is usually via an ODBC connection (System DSN), where the connection itself requires called the data definition file or TDD (File, Field and Index of DDF files, where the index could be optional, but useful in achieving peak performance). Confused with the ODBC connection to Pervasive SQL database is often linked to the fact that you are not sure (have no idea or experience) on how to obtain or create these files. Continue reading

4. Files DDF Great Plains Dynamics (7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0 and earlier versions). It is DDF.Set file to your desktop user (usually C: Dynamics). Just catch the mouse, drag and drop the file to open on Dynamics.exe DDF files creation. Please Note that you can create these ODBC files required not only for the core dictionary (as Dynamics.dic), but also for add-ons. ISV popular third party modules have been Intellisol Project Accounting and Advanced Purchase Order Processing, Icontrol Manufacturing, Fixed Assets. DDF files could be created as well for your home (or programmed specifically for you by the developer Dexterity) coded modules

5. Ctree ODBC driver. That's all right forward. Just install the ODBC driver CD Dynamics

6. Crystal Reports Design for GP archaic versions. If your report is simple in its requirements, you can follow the report wizard to link the tables. For example, if you need just to customers and their addresses listed, you can do this via the wizard. However, if in Crystal, SSRS, MS Access reports that you need to do cross-modules report design, we recommend that you deploy SQL View or summary proceedings stored, which could be created using MS SQL Server linked server building (where server linked to the nature ODBC)

7. Great Plains Accounting for DOS ODBC reporting and data extraction. Over the years many of our post GPA holder (when Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains DOS expired early support 2000th consulting firm), we realized that these customers are generally not advanced computer technology (IT department there may be vacant or just have a guru, which should cover all aspects of computer and network support). We could give your DDF files for access the data in your legacy ERP business, but we'd recommend you download your GPS compressed folder (where your data Accounting is) - we will convert the required tables in Excel, CSV, Access or another format. If you are very specific IT manager, you may need the original disks yet available. In this case, you can read the manual ODBC and follow the instructions to create DDF files and get a connection on your own

8. Translation Localization Issue. This could happen to you when you try to redeploy Dynamics on another file server. The problem is the fact that Btrieve Ctree or have to save the original installation path to your database (UNC or hardcoded physical path, but in most cases it is the UNC path). We have several more articles dedicated to the operation site problem, please read this (as we have to follow the restrictions section spacelike)

9. Repair data for older versions. Our favorite tool is Microsoft Access, where you can connect to linked tables via ODBC DSN

10. FRx Financial Reporter. This tool has been around since earlier 1990th. There are versions of FRx with data connectors to general ledger and Btrieve Ctree. At the moment we write these lines in April 2011, Microsoft Business Recommends solutions to pass Dynamics ERP Management Reporter FRx

11. Recommendations to clients about the versions currently supported: 2010/11.0, 10.0. Please examination table, the shape and surface structure by opening Dynamics GP -> Resource Description - Tables> / Fields / Forms. Additional information could be gathered in SDK

12. Upgrade Option. Each GP version has the option of being laid day to the current version 2010/11.0. There may be one or more subjects requiring decision making with your Consultant Great Plains. For example, Intellisol left the company, you may need to be upgraded (via migration from Pervasive to SQL Server and then update Service Pack support there)

13. Notes on the Small Business Financials (9.0, 8.0, 7.5, 7.0 called Small Business Manager). The range of enterprise products ERP has been adopted with the recommendation to upgrade to Dynamics GP Business Ready. SBF was available on MSDE and SQL Server Standard

14. Migration GP SAP Business One, Axapta, Navision, Solomon, Oracle Financials, PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, MYOB, Peach Tree. In these situations you should hire a technical consultant GP to work on migrating your historical accounting, ERP and MRP data in the format recommended by your new ERP solution

15. Support options. If you are located in the United States, Canada, European Union, China, Korea, India, Japan, Burma, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Brazil, America Latin, Russia - we are happy to provide remote support via GoToMeeting, Skype and Web conferencing

16. Sure Step. This is where you should consider automation project management for projects with Microsoft Dynamics AX, CRM, GP, NAV, SL, RMS (the family grows and you must leave the options to accommodate the future)
