Type Coin

A coin collector is always thinking of how to keep his coins in as safe a place as possible, because coins are his hobby and his collection is precious to him, therefore he needs to find a secure place to store his coins.

There are many kinds of spaces available for storing coins, some of them are plastic tubes and there are also different types of folders, but the coin collecting album is by far the best way to keep your coins safe and display them.

Benefits Of The Coin Collecting Album

One of the major benefits of the coin collecting album is that you can view your coins on both sides. This eliminates the procedure of taking the coins out every time you want to look at them. That is why the album is preferable.

Another decided advantage of the album in preference to folders or any type of coin storage is the fact that your coins are spared wear and tear.

Albums use materials like plastic which provides a protection against scratches and dust.

There are gold coin holders available which have pockets for your coins. These pockets provide protection for old or heavily used coins. When the coins are very old they keep dropping out, but when you use coin collecting albums, they are safe and secure.

Another factor is the price. The albums are available for $20/- or $40/- This may be a little more pricey, but so far as storage is concerned you cannot make a better choice. Since safe storage is a priority, the album is the best buy.

There is also an Information Center provided with coin collecting albums. You can use the front cover for all that you want to write about your coins. There is also a back cover where you can place your vintage figures, so as you can see, every coin collector can proudly look over his coin collection in an organized manner.

Taking stock of all these advantages with the coin collecting album, as opposed to the usual folders and holders, the coin collector will find that he can view his coins better and store them in a safe and secure manner. Although he may pay more for the album, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, for he can view the coins on both sides, keep them from being scratched, and make use of the Information Center which allows him to write all about his coins on the front page and store his prized figures at the back.

All in all, the coin collecting album has all the features that will keep your coins intact and provide you with many hours of pleasure while viewing your coins.

Coin Magic

Coin Magic

$68.51

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Coin magic is a general term for magical performances employing one or more coins which are manipulated to deceive and baffle the audience. Because coins are small, much coin magic is considered closeup magic or table magic, as the audience must be close to the performer to see the effects. Though stage conjurers generally do not use coin effects, magicians sometimes perform coin manipulations on stage using large coins. In another type of performance setting, a closeup coin magician (or coin worker) will use a large video projector so the audience can scrutinize the magic. Coin magic is generally considered harder to master than other closeup techniques such as card magic, and is one of the least performed forms of conjuring. Coin magic requires great skill and grace to perform convincingly, and this takes a lot of practice to acquire. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Coin Collecting

Coin Collecting

$73.28

Coin collecting is the collecting or trading of coins or other forms of minted legal tender. Coins of interest to collectors often include those that circulated for only a brief time, coins with mint errors and especially beautiful or historically significant pieces. Coin collecting can be differentiated from numismatics in that the latter is the systematic study of currency. Though closely related, the two disciplines are not necessarily the same. A numismatist may or may not be a coin collector and vice versa. Solidus (Coin)

Solidus (Coin)

$87.62

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The solidus (the Latin word for solid) was originally a gold coin issued by the Romans, and a weight measure for gold more generally, corresponding to 4.5 grams.he solidus was first introduced by Diocletian around 301 CE, struck at 60 to the Roman pound of pure gold (c. 5.3g) and with an initial value equal to 1000 denarii. However, Diocletians solidus was only struck in small quantities, and thus had only minimal economic impact. The solidus was reintroduced by Constantine I in 312 CE, permanently replacing the aureus as the imperial gold coin of the Roman Empire. The solidus was struck at a rate of 72 from a Roman pound of pure gold, each coin weighing twentyfour Roman/Greek carats, or about 4.5 grams of gold per coin. By this time, the solidus was worth 275,000 increasingly debased denarii. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Slug (Coin)

Slug (Coin)

$95.59

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A slug is a counterfeit coin that is used to make illegal purchases from a coinoperated device, such as a vending machine, pay phone, parking meter, transit farebox, copy machine, coin laundry, gaming machine, or arcade game. By resembling various features of a genuine coin, including the weight, size, and shape, a slug is designed to trick the machine into accepting it like a real coin. Though slug usage is a violation of the law (with the exact offense varying by country, usually considered to be counterfeiting and/or theft of services), prosecution for slug usage is rare due to the low value of the theft and the difficulty in identifying the offender. Offenders in casinos are most likely to be prosecuted, as casinos have high levels of video surveillance and other security measures, and are more proactive in enforcement. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yansheng Coin, is a kind of special coin mainly for ritual uses. It was very popular in ancient China and even the Republic of China era. Normally these coins are privately funded or casted, such as by a rich family for their own family ceremony. Its not a real kind of currency, and cannot be circulated in market. The collection (e.g. antique collection, coin collection) of this kind of coins has a long history, and has been very popular since the Western Han Dynasty. Coin Counterfeiting

Coin Counterfeiting

$82.85

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Coin counterfeiting occurs regularly in the antique coin market, but there are various modern forgeries that make it into general circulation. Counterfeit antique coins are generally made to a very high standard so that they can fool collectors; this is not easy and many coins still stand out. Counterfeit coins made to be of face value and destined for general circulation amongst the public have been made by criminals for hundreds of years. For modern coins destined for general circulation the most common method of protection from forgeries is the use of bimetallic coins which are made of two different metals that are both a different colour, which can make counterfeiting it very hard. The most common way of forging these coins is to change the area that should be a different colour by painting it, however the paint is often easy to scratch off and the coins will soon look very crude once worn. Fifty Pence (British Coin)

Fifty Pence (British Coin)

$111.53

The British decimal fifty pence (50p) coin often pronounced fifty pee was issued on 14 October 1969 in the runup to decimalisation to replace the ten shilling note. Despite the coins novel shape, there was initial confusion amongst some members of the public, with the coin being mistaken for both the old half crown and the new ten pence piece. The coin is minted from an alloy of 75 copper and 25 nickel. Between 1969 and 1997 the coin weighed 13.50 grams and had a diameter of 30.0 millimetres. In 1997 the coin was reduced in size to weigh 8.00 grams with a diameter of 27.3 millimetres. Apart from the reduction in size the design remained essentially the same (although the original is no longer legal tender). The coin is not circular but is an equilaterally curved heptagon to aid identification. The sides are not straight but are curved so that the centre of curvature is the opposite apex of the coin. In other words, whilst the coin is of a shape which doesnt have a fixed radius about any point, it does have a fixed diameter as a minimum dimension across the face of the coin. Canadian 1 Dollar Coin

Canadian 1 Dollar Coin

$92.4

The Canadian 1 dollar coin is a goldcoloured, bronzeplated, onedollar coin introduced in 1987. It bears images of a common loon, a wellknown Canadian bird, on the reverse, and of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The design for the coin was meant to be a voyageur theme, similar to the countrys previous one dollar/silver dollar coin, but the master dies were lost by the courier service while in transit to the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. In order to avoid possible counterfeiting, a different design was used. The coin has become the symbol of its currency. Newspapers often discuss the rate at which the loonie is trading against the United States greenback. The nickname loonie became so widely recognized that on March 15, 2006 the Royal Canadian Mint secured the rights to the name Loonie. The coinan 11sided curve of constant widthis made of Aureate, a bronzeelectroplated nickel combination. In order to maintain a constant width of 26.5 mm the sides of the coin are not exactly straight, but curved in the same manner as the 7sided British twenty pence and fifty pence coins. The total composition of the coin is 91.5 nickel and 8.5 bronze. Professional Coin Grading Service

$103.56

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is a third party grading service for grading rare coins. It charges a fee for an opinion as to the condition and authenticity of each coin it grades to provide consumers with a rating on which to judge the coin, and encapsulates coins in sealed seethrough plastic holders. Such opinions are not universal and many PCGS coins are broken out of their holders by most major dealers at major coin shows. It was founded in 1986, and is located in Newport Beach, CA. It is a subsidiary of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT), a company that also operates a rare comic book certification service and a grader of paper money. PCGS claims it was founded in response to perceived inconsistencies in the appraisal of rare coins, however in truth PCGS can have little if any impact on coin appraisals since dealers base their appraisals on supply, demand and their inventory needs and surpluses. Checking Whether a Coin Is Fair

Checking Whether a Coin Is Fair

$60.54

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In statistics, the question of checking whether a coin is fair is one whose importance lies, firstly, in providing a simple problem on which to illustrate basic ideas of statistical inference and, secondly, in providing a simple problem that can be used to compare various competing methods of statistical inference, including decision theory. The practical problem of checking whether a coin is fair might be considered as easily solved by performing a sufficiently large number of trials, but statistics and probability theory can provide guidance on two types of question; specifically those of how many trials to undertake and of the accuracy an estimate of the probability of turning up heads, derived from a given sample of trials. A fair coin is an idealized randomizing device with two states (usually named heads and tails ) which are equally likely to occur. It is based on the coin flip used widely in sports and other situations where it is required to give two parties the same chance of winning. Mint (Coin)

Mint (Coin)

$70.1

The history of mints correlates closely with the history of coins. One difference is that the history of the mint is normally related in a fashion that more closely ties to the political situation of an era. For example, when discussing the history of the New Orleans Mint, the usage of that mint by the Confederate States of America beginning in 1861 is a notable occurrence. The origins of the Philadelphia Mint, which began operations in 1792 and first produced circulating coinage in 1793, are often related within the political context of the time. Halfpenny (British PreDecimal Coin)

Halfpenny (British PreDecimal Coin)

$70.1

The British halfpenny coin was worth 1/480th of a pound sterling. At first in its 700 year history it was made from silver but as the value of the pound declined, the coin was made from base metals. It was finally abandoned in 1969 as part of the process of decimalising the British currency. A halfpenny, colloquially written hapenny. It was long considered that the first halfpenny coins were produced in the reign of King Edward I (12721307), with earlier requirements for small change being provided by cut coinage ; that is, pennies cut into halves or quarters, usually along the cross which formed a prominent part of the reverse of the coin. However, in recent years metal detectors have discovered a few halfpennies of Kings Henry I (11001135) and Henry III (12161272) these are extremely rare and very little is known about them; they have all been found in the London area, where they circulated alongside the more common cut coinage, and while it is possible that these coins were patterns or trials, it is clear that they did see circulation. No documentary evidence of these coins is known to exist, and it is possible that there are other coins or issues still to be discovered. Threepence (British Coin)

Threepence (British Coin)

$95.59

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The threepence or thrupenny bit was a denomination of currency used by various jurisdictions in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, until decimalisation of the pound sterling and Irish pound in 1971. It was also used in some parts of the British Empire (later known as the Commonwealth), notably Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Before decimalisation brought about a new currency with new coinage, the sum of three pence was pronounced variously THROOPence THREPPence or THRUPPence reflecting different pronunciations in the various regions of Great Britain. Likewise, the coin was usually referred to in conversation as a THROOPnee THREPPnee or THRUPPnee bit. The three pence coin expressed in writing as 3d first appeared in England during the fine silver coinage of King Edward VI (15471553), when it formed part of a set of new denominations. Although it was an easy denomination to work with in the context of the old sterling coinage system, being a quarter of a shilling, initially it was not popular with the public who preferred the groat (four pence). Hence the coin was not minted in the following two reigns. Dime (United States Coin)

Dime (United States Coin)

$63.73

The dime is a coin worth ten cents or one tenth of a United States dollar. The dime is the smallest in diameter and the thinnest of all U.S. coins currently minted for circulation. The 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, is featured on the obverse of the current design, while a torch, oak branch, and olive branch covering the motto E pluribus unum are featured on the reverse. The dimes value is labeled as one dime, since the term dime also applies to a unit of currency worth 10 cents or 1/10 of a dollar. The dime was commissioned by the Coinage Act of 1792, and production began in 1796. A feminine head representing Liberty was used on the front of the coin, and an eagle was used on the back. The front and back of the dime used these motifs for three different designs through 1837. The composition and diameter of the dime have changed throughout its mintage. Initially the dime was 0.75 inch (19 millimeters) wide, but it was changed to its present size of 0.705 inch (17.91 millimeters) in 1828. The composition (initially 89.24 percent silver and 10.76 percent copper) remained constant until 1837, when it was altered to 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. Farthing (British Coin)

Farthing (British Coin)

$70.1

A farthing (derived from the AngloSaxon feorthing, a fourthling or fourth part) was an English coin worth one quarter of a penny, 1/960 of a pound sterling. Such coins were first minted in England in the 13th century, and continued to be used until 31 December 1960 when they ceased to be legal tender. Early farthings were silver, but surviving examples are rare because they were infrequently stored. The first copper farthings were issued during the reign of King James I, who gave a licence for minting to John Harington, 1st Baron Harington of Exton. Licences were subsequently given out until after the Commonwealth, when the Royal Mint resumed production in 1672.
