Thumb Error

The Xbox 360 is the latest version of Microsoft's Xbox console. This video game consoles was launched in 2005. During the launch, Sony was the main gaming console which competed with its Play station 2.

Problem with Hardware

The users around the world who are using Xbox 360 faced the problem with the console. The problem is due to overheating of the console. Xbox 360 is designed with latest technology, which can support very high resolution graphics. It gives the best graphical support, with two processors, Central Processing Unit and Graphical Processor Unit. It was designed with heat sink which fails to work when the console is operated for long hours. The X clamps which are situated over the processor and motherboard stops the air flow inside the console. By removing the X clamps we can solve this problem.

Removing the X clamp is not a big work, its very simple and just by using the household tools you can do it.

Step One:

Turn off your Xbox 360, and unplug it. Just using your thumb fingers pull the face plate from the bottom of the console.

Step Two:

Now, turn up side down your console, and take a close look where you can see the holes and locate top and bottom of each side. And further you can see gray tabs on its ends and center of the console. They holds the console top and bottom pieces. Using some pointed object remove the case off.

Step Three:

Now gently pock out three clips in each side, totally six clips. To remove it you may need a rubber pad. Be careful to remove front of the gray cover

Step Four:

Now take a close look at the back of the console. You may see two notches on right and left side. Gently unscrew them, first at the left side and then at the right side. This is the trickiest part to do, so be careful while doing it.

Step Five:

Now get back to the front side and undo the four catches. Gently take off the front case off the console. Gently remove the DVD button arm assembly and disconnect the SATA connection from the motherboard and take out the DVD drive out of the console.

Step Six:

Remove all the screws.

Step Seven:

Now remove the airflow guide from the console. Be very gentle while removing it.

Step Eight:

Now disconnect the power cable of the cooling fans from the motherboard and remove the fan device from the console using small screw driver.

Step Nine

You can see a white cover in the front side; just remove it from the case by undoing its screws and latches. Now you can gently lift up the motherboard from the console, where you can see the heat sinks installed over it.

Step Ten

Flip the motherboard where you can see the X connectors on the bottom of it. Now be very gently to remove the X clamps from it and be very conscious. Apply some force to remove it.

Step Eleven:

Now clean the Thermal Compound from the GPU, CPU and Heat Sinks using Rubbing Alcohol very gently. Don't touch the Processors and Heat sinks by your bare hands.

Step Twelve:

After cleaning them, you just have to replace the thermal component to its location. Clean the GPU and CPU with wiping bags and replace the X clamps. Use some washers with the screw before screwing up the X clamps; this is to provide some distance from the processor for air flow.

Step fourteen:

Insert a metal washer first and a nylon washer after that, this way you have to screw it up. Now align the heat sinks over them and tight the bolts. Undo all the process that you have done for removing the console. Screw all the parts as you unscrewed before. Now plug on the console and note Red lights on the power ring area. After 1 minute power off and now you can see the thermal components getting melted because of heat. Unscrew them all and place them as per before you did. Now completely screw all the nuts and bolts and bring it to the original position and turn on the console and now you may see the console work perfectly. Just enjoy it!
