In this economy American families are cutting back. They are tightening their fiscal belts and reining in all unnecessary expenses. No more fancy three dollar lattes and frapuccinos smothered in whipped cream; the same goes for daily lunches out and splurging on weekend shopping sprees. But there are just some things that shouldn't be skimped on and that includes home security. There's no price tag that you can place on having peace of mind and knowing that your family will be safe in their own home. The fact of the matter is that home security simply makes solid sense and truly, you needn't spend a fortune on a decent home alarm system.
Even as we cut down on expenses, staying away from buying that new computer or a new car, we can not afford to simply forget about home security. In times of economic hardship, petty robbery and break-ins become more common; people are tense and worried. Crime tends to rise. Thus increasing your home's security is simply a good idea.
The good news is that most home security systems don't cost much at all and there are even some measures that you can put into practice that cost little to nothing and that will increase your home security significantly.
You can take a trip to the hardware store and upgrade your locks. This is inexpensive and easy to do; it shouldn't take more than an hour or two. Be sure to buy steel reinforcement plates for your door and deadbolts. Secure your door frames using screws that are at least an inch long. If you've got glass doors, consider covering them with protective film which prevents the glass from breaking.
Make sure to keep your shed and garage locked at all times. Don't leave your garage open even if you are at home, as this makes a great opportunity for thieves to window shop.
Trim any tree branches that are close to upper level windows. Be sure to place locks on your windows as well. Consider planting rose bushes or other thorny plants under windows to act as a natural deterrent.
Get a timer for your lamps and perhaps a radio or TV. Make your home look lived in all the time. Thieves are less likely to break in when people are home; they simply want to get in and out without much fuss.
When throwing out prescription medicine bottles, be sure to take off the label so that your personal information can't reach prying eyes; drug addicts sometimes look through garbage they'll break into your house if they know you take certain types of pain medication. Make sure to shred any financial documents or bank statements before you throw them away too.
Consider getting a home alarm system or upgrading if you've already got one. The simple presence of a home alarm works as a deterrent. You can also install a DIY system if you're looking to save a couple of extra bucks.
You can't put a price tag on safety. Home alarm systems are an excellent investment. Don't take any chances, call today to get an ADT home alarm today.

The Dollar Crisis $26 In this updated, second edition of the highly acclaimed international best seller, The Dollar Crisis: Causes, Consequences, Cures , Richard Duncan describes the flaws in the international monetary system that have destabilized the global economy and that may soon culminate in a deflation-induced worldwide economic slump. The Dollar Crisis is divided into five parts: Part One describes how the US trade deficits, which now exceed US$1 million a minute, have destabilized the global economy by creating a worldwide credit bubble. Part Two explains why these giant deficits cannot persist and why a US recession and a collapse in the value of the Dollar are unavoidable. Part Three analyzes the extraordinarily harmful impact that the US recession and the collapse of the Dollar will have on the rest of the world. Part Four offers original recommendations that, if implemented, would help mitigate the damage of the coming worldwide downturn and put in place the foundations for balanced and sustainable economic growth in the decades ahead. Part Five , which has been newly added to the second edition, describes the extraordinary evolution of this crisis since the first edition was completed in September 2002. It also considers how the Dollar Crisis is likely to unfold over the years immediately ahead, the likely policy response to the crisis, and why that response cannot succeed. The Dollar Standard is inherently flawed and increasingly unstable. Its collapse will be the most important economic event of the 21st Century. |

A Dollar Short $14.99 It isn't every day a movie star steals your husband. When that day comes for Chiffon Butrell, of Cayboo Creek, South Carolina, she looks to the Bottom Dollar Girls to help her out of one fine mess. As a waitress at the local Wagon Wheel restaurant, Chiffon pegs her fortunes to a winning entry in a local video store's Be-a-Movie-Star contest. But her celluloid dreams are dashed when her baby takes sick and her husband, Lonnie -- one fine specimen of Southern manhood -- heads for the Hollywood Hills solo. On set, he turns the head of leading lady Janie-Lynn Lauren, whose siren call is Oscar caliber. Back in Cayboo Creek, Chiffon manages to lose her temper and her job in quick succession -- only to discover that Lonnie's paycheck from the Nutra-Sweet plant has been forwarded to a California address. With three kids to feed, Chiffon comes up more than a dollar short. Her good friends try their best to pitch in. But there are too few hands to lend, what with Elizabeth and her husband, Timothy, expecting their first baby any day and the rest of the Bottom Dollar Girls knee-deep in their secret -- and possibly scandalous -- plan to raise money for the Cayboo Creek Senior Center. When a slick of Wesson Oil at the Winn-Dixie gets the better of Chiffon's ankle, there's just one thing to be done -- call on estranged older sister Chenille, who hails from Bible Grove, South Carolina. A prissy, fussy spinster prone to dressing her dog, Walter, in matching plaid "mother-son" outfits, Chenille is everything former beauty queen Chiffon detests. Suddenly the tabloid media gets wind of Janie-Lynn and Lonnie's torrid romance, landing sleepy Cayboo Creek on the star map. Under the glare of camera lights, the sisters must put aside their longtime grievances to forge a newfound relationship. As crisis reigns, Chenille is welcomed by the Bottom Dollar Girls for her cool head and quick thinking. And when Chenille runs into a little trouble of her own, she begins to see the future in friendship. A rollicking, hilarious novel about two sisters who are each one of a kind, A Dollar Short is a delicious page-turner worth every last cent. |

The Million Dollar Divorce $11.99 RM Johnson, the Essence bestselling author of Dating Games and The Harris Family, delivers an absorbing and provocative new novel about the lowdown schemes and broken dreams that follow a fractured marriage. Successful business entrepreneur Nate Kenny is thrilled to get married to the beautiful and intelligent Monica, chiefly because it means he can at last fulfill his lifelong dream of having a family. While he isn't happy about it, he agrees with Monica to wait three years before trying for pregnancy. Once those three years are up, the couple discovers that she is unable to bear children. Any love he once felt for Monica is gone, and Nate wants out of the marriage. But he's worried about losing half of his sixty-million-dollar fortune in a divorce settlement. Desperate for an out, he searches for a way to exploit the infidelity clause in the couple's prenuptial agreement. Enter Lewis Waters. With his baby's mother addicted to drugs, Lewis is already seriously down on his luck when he accidentally smashes his car into Nate's Bentley. Without auto insurance or any way to pay for the repairs, Lewis is at the end of his financial rope. But the scheming and conniving Nate sees another way for the attractive young man to repay his debt: as sexual bait for Monica. And so Nate sets up Lewis with all of the accessories he believes Lewis will need to earn Monica's love, or at the very least her lust: a big house, a fancy car, expensive clothes, and a full bank account. But as is often the case when it comes to matters of the heart, things don't unfold according to plan. When Monica falls hard for Lewis, Nate panics -- was protecting his fortune more important than trying to save his marriage? As he finds himself overwhelmed by second thoughts, Nate is willing to do anything to get Monica back. An inspired fusion of realism and romance, The Million Dollar Divorce is an unpredictable caper of lust, betrayal, and family ties. |
