A Red Potatoes Recipe With Blue Cheese
Not many people would think about mixing blue cheese into a red potatoes recipe. But the mixing of different flavors has a long history in the culinary arts. Perhaps the most common everyday mixing of flavors takes place in the many convenience stores that are spread out throughout the country. People will mix the flavor of their soft drinks until they are unrecognizable.
It would not be unusual to see someone mix a regular cola with a cherry flavored drink. Then of course there are the more exotic mixtures. A kid might go wild and put Dr Pepper in with his Grape Soda. Somehow the flavors meld and taste acceptable. At least to the kid they do.
But for more conventional mixtures you might look to bar drinks: Rum and Coke, Whiskey and 7-Up, and of course the irresistible daiquiri: Banana and Strawberry.
Ice cream presents another example of different flavors being mixed together. Who ever thought of putting chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry together? Well that is called Neapolitan and is not only quite tasty but also quite popular.
Maybe the most outrageous ice cream mixture is Rum Raisin Bread Pudding. Think about the potpourri of flavors that make up that concoction. You have rum raisin ice cream that is blended with bread pudding which is swirled with a bourbon caramel sauce. It all works and taste delicious.
So what does all of this have to do with blue cheese and potato recipes? It has everything to do with with soft drinks, ice cream, and adult beverages as far as flavor mixing goes.
Potatoes are the second most purchased item in any grocery store just behind bananas. Does that surprise you? It shouldn't. Potatoes are full of nutrition and packed with vitamins and minerals. Not only are they naturally great tasting but they mix well with other flavors.
Red Potato Salad with Blue Cheese
Ingredients
6 Red Potatoes
1 Leek
½ cup of celery
2 tablespoons of olive oil
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 ounces crumbled blue cheese
Directions
1. Cut the red potatoes into 1 inch cubes. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, place the potatoes in the pot, cook until tender.
2. Slice the leek thin, dice the celery, and mix together with the olive oil and the lemon juice in a big bowl.
3. Remove the potatoes from the water and add them to the mixing bowl along with the blue cheese.
4. Toss the contents of the mixing bowl thoroughly.
5. You may add salt and pepper for your individual taste.
A Red Potato Recipe with Blue Cheese is just one potato dish that mixes flavors that you would not normally think about. Just a few short years ago nobody really would have thought of using Mexican salsa as topping on a baked potato, but Mexican potatoes of all types are very popular today and they mix flavors like no body's business!
All red potatoes recipes will be versatile because this family of potatoes can be prepared as boiled, baked, steamed, and microwaved. With so many different ways to cook the potato the available ingredient list can be large and the available flavors are endless.

The Tender Hour of Twilight $16.99 From Beckett to Burroughs, The Story of O to The Autobiography of Malcolm X , an iconic literary troublemaker tells the colorful stories behind the stories Richard Seaver came to Paris in 1950 seeking Hemingway’s moveable feast. Paris had become a different city, traumatized by World War II, yet the red wine still flowed, the cafés bustled, and the Parisian women found American men exotic and heroic. There was an Irishman in Paris writing plays and novels unlike anything anyone had ever read—but hardly anyone was reading them. There were others, too, doing equivalently groundbreaking work for equivalently small audiences. So when his friends launched a literary magazine, Merlin, Seaver knew this was his calling: to bring the work of the likes of Samuel Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, and Jean Genet to the world. The Korean War ended all that—the navy had paid for college and it was time to pay them back. After two years at sea, Seaver washed ashore in New York City with a beautiful French wife and a wider sense of the world than his compatriots. The only young literary man with the audacity to match Seaver’s own was Barney Rosset of Grove Press. A remarkable partnership was born, one that would demolish U.S. censorship laws with inimitable joie de vivre as Seaver and Rosset introduced American readers to Lady Chatterly’s Lover , Henry Miller, Story of O , William Burroughs, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and more. As publishing hurtles into its uncertain future, The Tender Hour of Twilight is a stirring reminder of the passion, the vitality, and even the glamour of a true life in literature. |
