Background And Benefits Of Quarter Coin Collecting
Collecting coins has been a long-standing hobby which has been generally enjoyed by children and adults alike. Some of the reasons why individuals collect coins are that some coins can be valuable and increase in value over the years. While for others, coin collecting is just an opportunity to gather coins together and appreciate and pass the collection on to family generations.
Additionally, there are many coin collecting avenues that an individual can go down. For example one can collect old and rare coins, while another individual may simply choose to collect specific coin denominations. Some of those denominations could include pennies, nickels, dimes, etc.
One other example of coin collection can be the collection of state quarters. This type of collection would obviously be called quarter coin collecting and associated with this type of collection can be a number of benefits. Additionally, if considering a quarter coin collecting hobby it is important to know the background of these coins and some benefits associated with quarter coin collecting.
Background State Quarter Coin Collecting
The state quarter coin collecting series was initiated by the Federal Reserve Bank and the coins began to be minted in 1999. The plan included the production and circulating of quarters representing five states per year for ten years. Therefore, the last year of state quarter minting would be accomplished by the year 2008.
Additionally, each state had the opportunity to provide three concepts or iconic symbols that best represented their state. These concepts where then reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and the U.S. Commission on the Arts. The recommendations were presented to the United States Mint for approval by the Secretary of the Treasury.
For example on the Wisconsin State quarter the front of the quarter contains a dairy cow, cheese, ear of corn and the state motto which is "Forward." Or for the Texas quarter the outline of the State of Texas is engraved along with a star and the inscription "Lone Star State."
Benefits
There can be many benefits associated with the state quarter coin collecting process. One of those benefits is to present to a child the opportunity of learning more about the United States of America. This can be accomplished by collecting these quarters and matching these quarters in an appropriate circle on the state within the union.
This will help the young child to learn about the United States of America as well as the symbols that depict or reflect the state's contribution to the United States of America. In addition quarter coin collecting can be a geographical lesson for the young person. This will be accomplished as the young child will learn where each state is geographically.

No Quarter Asked $4.99 Janet Dailey wrote her first novel, No Quarter Asked in 1974 after her husband, Bill, urged her to back up her claim that she could write a better romance novel than the ones she had read. The book was accepted by Harlequin, which made her the category romance giant's first American author. She eventually wrote a total of 57 novels for Harlequin, including one set in every state of the Union. These later became known as "The Janet Dailey Americana Series." The Daileys were instrumental in forming the Silhouette romance fiction line, for which Janet wrote 12 more titles before entering the mass market field in 1979 with Touch the Wind, which marked her debut on the New York Times best seller list. No Quarter Asked is the first of the Cord & Stacy Series which includes No Quarter Asked (1974), Fiesta San Antonio (1977) and For Bitter or Worse (1978). |
