Tariq-ibn-Ziyad and his fierce Berber troops invaded Spain initially in 710 AD, through Tarifa and later, through Gibraltar 711 AD.
The next 800 years was documented by both sides. There was no BBC or CNN seeking impartial truth. War alternated with Romance.
The Moors exposed the grandiose - the Spaniards remembered the ruthless...
After the Battle of Guadalete July 19, 711 AD, prisoners were forced to observe... Christian comrades were hacked to pieces and chucked into boiling vats. The Moors secretly switched cauldron-contents and sat down and ate heartily.
Tariq then released those witnesses. The horror converted them as propaganda tools, harbinger-messengers of the true "Power of the Sword." This was just one of the reasons, why Spain yielded so swiftly to the Moorish Rule of Spain. A rule that lasted nearly 800 years, (from 711 AD to 1492 AD).
There were other reasons why Visigoth rule vanished. Hispanic-Romans had detested the Visigoths. Jews had been treated cruelly and harshly by the Catholic Church and the Visigoths.
The Moors were aided by both the Hispanic-Romans and the Jews. Neither side, however, believed that the Moors would stay.
The invasion was swift but not always smooth. The Moors themselves experienced jagged episodes. Internal revolts were persistent between the fanatical Berbers and their Arabic superiors. Even the original Moorish leader Tariq, was imprisoned, released and imprisoned.
Spain was all but conquered, except for a small area in the north-west: Asturias. The region became notorious for a multitude of historic legends...
30 brave men led by Don Pelayo (son of an nobleman - exiled by King Witizia - with rights to the Toldedan throne). He mounted a revolt against the Moors. They fought from the caves of the Picos de Europa. The group was isolated but determined. They survived off a diet mostly of wild-mountain honey. The Moors scoured the area in vain. Eventually, they relinquished the search, believing, so few, would not be a significant problem.
In 722 AD, the Moors experienced their first defeat, at the Battle of Covadonga, when Pelayo's men defeated a small Moorish patrol. Pelayo's men, secured the narrow valley of Covadonga. 300 Christians versus 400,000 Moors - at least that was the essence of the myth.
Though, a historically ambiguous point, Covadonga was the nexus of the Reconquista. The victory was memorable and became the first turn of the Christians' return to the "Key to Spain." Great morale for The Cause of the Spanish Reconquista.
Don Pelayo declared the defended area: Asturias, a small independent Kingdom.
Spanish heirs are referred to as: the Prince of Asturias, honouring the bravery of Pelayo and his men.
Borders of Moorish Spain were elastic: continually shrinking or expanding.
Inside Moorish boundaries: life was a paradox of violence, excessive self-indulgence, the highest education and refinement: The romantic grace of the Alhambra or the exquisite Madinat-az-Zahra...
Outside Moorish boundaries: Harrowing chapters: al-Hakim 1, massacred 300 chief citizens, Toledo 800 AD. Mass enslavement, whole village-retributions, customary alternate hand and foot amputations...
Christians and Jews were regarded as "people of the book." They were permitted to continue practising their faith, as long as Moorish tax was paid. Tax laws had to be adhered to. Jizya: a special tax which protected those that paid - from the death penalty.
It was the extension of the Islamic faith which was the essence of the Moorish Rule of Spain.
Anne Costigan - From Soultrean art - Andalucia, (Spain) was plundered for its silver - it became a Roman province - Tyrannical Germanic rule - there were two Golden Ages: 1) Andalucia connected the Ancient world to the birth of the Renaissance, and 2) Andalucia was the exit route to becoming a super-power in Discovery. All led to the wealth of the historic patrimony and architecture of Spain. Visit http://www.andalucia-andalusia.com/ and discover the multicultural heritage of Spain.

Swastika Night $74.88 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Swastika Night is a futuristic novel first published in 1937 and republished in 1940 by Katharine Burdekin, writing under the pseudonym Murray Constantine. Swastika Night was a Left Book Club selection in 1940. The novel is based on Hitlers claims that Nazism would create a Thousand Year Reich. Despite its similarity to an alternate history novel, the text, written prior to World War II, plays out in a way which is extreme though believable, considering the peculiar character of the Nazi State. At the time of writing, the book was not an alternate history but rather a plausible future history, which did not come true. The novel bears striking similarities to Orwells Nineteen EightyFour, published more than a decade later: the past has been destroyed and history is rewritten, language is distorted, few books exist apart from propaganda, and a secret book is the only witness to the past. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 112 Publication Date: 2010/06/13 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.26 inches |

From Swastika to Jim Crow $82.89 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. From Swastika to Jim Crow is a 2000 documentary that explores the similarities between Nazism in Germany (the Swastika) and racism in the American south (Jim Crow). In 1939, the Nazi government expelled Jewish scholars from German universities. Many of them found teaching positions in Southern Universities, where they sympathized with the plight of their African-American colleagues and students. The horrors of prejudice became a common thread that could bind these exiled Jewish professors with their black students and colleagues. The film pairs shocking archival footage of the KKK dressed in costume and carrying torches with footage of Nazi salutes and marching German soldiers to compare the barbarity of both ideologies. A picture of a lynching shows a mob of average white citizens standing around casually and looking up at the tree, while photographs of the Holocaust depict emaciated corpses piled on top of each other. |

He straightened, pocketed the tweezers for the moment. 'Well, I think you boys have earned a little reward.'" Helga's cries for mercy fell on sadistically deaf ears as the cruel "interrogation" continued. The Gestapo officer and his two understudies do not know that Helga knows nothing about her husband's Hitler-baiting underground newspaper-nor would they have cared if they had known. Their real purpose is to get perverted enjoyment out of seeing this lovely lady writhe; information is secondary. Illustrated. |
