There are various types of Internet businesses that an Internet business newbie or aspiring online entrepreneur could choose from. Generally, online or e-businesses are relatively cheaper to set up & easier to run than their offline counterparts, but they're arguably more competitive. To succeed in the world of online business, an e-business newbie must be passionate about the business, must have a good knowledge of the business and must possess a good deal of communication & marketing skills. The early days of new Internet businesses are usually the toughest & most discouraging, and during these times, it's only passion that keeps the newbie from throwing in the towel. Of course, it would be foolish to jump into what you know absolutely nothing about. Doing a lot of research & planning is, thus, absolutely crucial to the ultimate success of any online venture. Most importantly, if you cannot communicate adequately and promote your products or services, then don't even bother starting an Internet business because the competition will just put you out of business.
Types of online or e-businesses include the following:
1. Corporate Websites - these are not actually e-businesses in the real sense of the word. They are, rather, online representations of established offline businesses. These established "physical" corporations use their websites to maintain an online presence through which they market their products or services to a much broader audience. They can also use this medium to transact business with clients who, otherwise, would have been impossible to reach out to, hence increasing their customer base.
2. Informational Sites - this type of Internet business includes online encyclopedias, online news, e-magazines, blogs, forums, specialized websites, etc. These e-businesses monetize their sites by paid subscriptions, placement of contextual ads like Google AdSense, promotion of affiliate products, or even selling ad spaces on their sites directly to advertisers. Of all these, I believe blogs are probably the easiest and most inexpensive to set up and run, hence I advocate blogging for any Internet business newbie or aspiring online entrepreneur with little or no start-up capital.
3. Web Services - this type of online business include email services, search engines, social networking sites, chat rooms, bulk SMS service, web hosting, graphic design, web design, Internet marketing, translation services, market research, online payment services, directories, online market place, software development, etc.
4. Online Shops - just as the name implies, this type of Internet business entails displaying and selling of ones own products in a shop, except in this case both product display and transactions are carried out online. Delivery of the sold "physical" products, however, is done offline, well except for some digital products like software, e-books, music, videos, games, etc, that are downloadable directly to the buyers computer, PDA, phone, etc. Note that in this type of business, the shop owner must actually own the "physical" products on sale, not necessarily being the manufacturer, but has at least acquired the products and have them in stock ready for delivery to any buyer. Hence, it could also be an already established offline shop looking to expand its customer base online.
5. Affiliate Shops - the difference between this type of online business and online shops as described above is that with affiliate shops, the shop owner doesn't have to own or have in stock any of the "physical" products on sale. It is also not the responsibility of the affiliate shop owner to deliver any sold product to its end buyer. All the affiliate shop owner does is to market and sell products owned by other individuals or companies.
6. Online Trading - this includes forex trading, stock trading, options, futures, precious stones, crude oil, real estate, e-minis, etc.
Now, of all these various types of Internet businesses, some are easy to setup while others are less so, some are also easy to run while others, not so and some are relatively less expensive than others. For a new Internet business owner or aspiring online entrepreneur, I advocate blogging and/or affiliate marketing because they are relatively easier to set up and run, and also very inexpensive. For instance, you could start a money-making blog with NO CAPITAL at all, provided you have access to a computer linked to the Internet.
Well all I can say at this point is good luck with your chosen type of Internet business.

Run $9.99 Since their mother's death, Tip and Teddy Doyle have been raised by their loving, possessive, and ambitious father. As the former mayor of Boston, Bernard Doyle wants to see his sons in politics, a dream the boys have never shared. But when an argument in a blinding New England snowstorm inadvertently causes an accident that involves a stranger and her child, all Bernard Doyle cares about is his ability to keep his children—all his children—safe. Set over a period of twenty-four hours, Run takes us from the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard to a home for retired Catholic priests in downtown Boston. It shows us how worlds of privilege and poverty can coexist only blocks apart from each other, and how family can include people you've never even met. As in her bestselling novel Bel Canto , Ann Patchett illustrates the humanity that connects disparate lives, weaving several stories into one surprising and endlessly moving narrative. Suspenseful and stunningly executed, Run is ultimately a novel about secrets, duty, responsibility, and the lengths we will go to protect our children. |

Cassidy's Run $11.99 Cassidy's Run is the riveting story of one of the best-kept secrets of the Cold War—an espionage operation mounted by Washington against the Soviet Union that ran for twenty-three years. At the highest levels of the government, its code name was Operation shocker. Lured by a double agent working for the United States, ten Russian spies, including a professor at the University of Minnesota, his wife, and a classic "sleeper" spy in New York City, were sent by Moscow to penetrate America's secrets. Two FBI agents were killed, and secret formulas were passed to the Russians in a dangerous ploy that could have spurred Moscow to create the world's most powerful nerve gas. Cassidy's Run tells this extraordinary true story for the first time, following a trail that leads from Washington to Moscow, with detours to Florida, Minnesota, and Mexico. Based on documents secret until now and scores of interviews in the United States and Russia, the book reveals that:  ¸         more than 4,500 pages of classified documents, including U.S. nerve gas formulas, were passed to the Soviet Union in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars  ¸         an "Armageddon code," a telephone call to a number in New York City, was to alert the sleeper spy to an impending nuclear attack—a warning he would transmit to the Soviets by radio signal from atop a rock in Central Park  ¸         two FBI agents were killed when their plane crashed during surveillance of one of the Soviet spies as he headed for the Canadian border  ¸         secret "drops" for microdots were set up by Moscow from New York to Florida to Washington More than a cloak-and-dagger tale, Cassidy's Run is the spellbinding story of one ordinary man, Sergeant Joe Cassidy, not trained as a spy, who suddenly found himself the FBI's secret weapon in a dangerous clandestine war. ADVANCE PRAISE FOR CASSIDY'S RUN "Cassidy's Run shows, once again, that few writers know the ins and outs of the spy game like David Wise. . . his research is meticulous in this true story of espionage that reads like a thriller." —Dan Rather "The Master hsa done it again. David Wise, the best observer and chronicler of spies there is, has told another gripping story. This one comes from the cold war combat over nerve gas and is spookier than ever because it's all true." —Jim Lehrer |

The Suicide Run $11.99 The Suicide Run  collects five of William Styron’s meticulously rendered narratives based on his real-life experiences as a U.S. Marine. In “Blankenship,” Styron draws on his stint as a guard at a stateside military prison at the end of World War II. “Marriott, the Marine” and “The Suicide Run”—which Styron composed as part of an intended novel that he set aside to write Sophie’s Choice—depict the surreal experience of being conscripted a second time, after World War II, to serve in the Korean War. “My Father’s House” captures the frustration of a soldier trying to become a civilian again. In “Elobey, Annobón, and Corisco,” a soldier attempts to exorcise the dread of an approaching battle by daydreaming about far-off islands, visited vicariously through his childhood stamp collection.       Perhaps the last volume from one of literature’s greatest voices,  The Suicide Run  brings to life the drama, absurdity, and heroism that forever changed the men who served in the Marine Corps. |

Run Afoul $5.99 U.S. Exploring Expedition linguist Wiki Coffin sails with the famous convoy of ships toward Brazil, with no idea of the amazing events the fates and the winds have set in store for him. As the great flagship Vincennes, under the dubious command of eccentric captain Charles Wilkes, leads the convoy toward a dramatic entrance in the port of Rio, careless maneuvering causes one of the vessels to run afoul of a Boston trading ship - a shocking embarrassment that none of the sailors aboard is likely to live down during their time in port. As it turns out, the trader is owned and commanded by the famous and larger-than-life Captain William Coffin, father to Wiki and sailor of all seven seas as well as another dozen or so he's managed to invent in his years of telling tall tales. The encounter sets in motion a series of confounding events that reunites the elder Coffin with his illegitimate half-Maori son and that, before they are through, will see two men dead, Coffin on trial for murder, and Wiki working feverishly to unmask the real killers before the expedition sails on, leaving his father at the mercy of an unforgiving Brazilian court - and Wiki's own tenuous grip on family hanging desperately in the balance. |

Morgan's Run $7.99 In a novel of sweeping narrative power unequaled since her own beloved worldwide bestseller The Thorn Birds, Colleen McCullough returns to Australia -- this time with the story of its birth. At the center of her new novel is Richard Morgan, son of a Bristol tavern-keeper, devoted husband and loving father, sober and hardworking craftsman. By the machinations of fate and the vagaries of the 18th-century English judicial system, he is consigned as a convict to the famous "First Fleet," which set sail, bearing, as an experiment in penology, 582 male and 193 female felons sentenced to transportation, in May of 1787 for the continent that Captain Cook had discovered only a few years earlier. The word "epic" is overused, but no other word can do justice to one of the most grueling and significant voyages in human history or to the courage of the convicts whose sufferings were not ended but had only just begun when they set foot on Australian soil at Botany Bay on January 19th, 1788. Of those convicts, Richard Morgan stood out, not only for his strength and his calm determination to let no man bully him, but also for his intelligence, his fair-mindedness, his common sense, and his willingness to help others. To these qualities must be added a certain innate dignity that hinted, even in the most terrible conditions, at a life marked by tragedies that would have broken most men. In Richard Morgan, Colleen McCullough has created one of her most compelling characters. We see through Morgan's eyes the two worlds in which the story takes place: that of 18th-century Bristol, where Morgan was born and expected to live out his life, and that of a convicted felon sent to settle a hostile new world. When the book begins, Richard Morgan is a contented man -- happily married, with a child he adores. Then, piece by piece, his idyll crumbles until he finds himself led into an ambiguous relationship with a beautiful young woman, whose dissolute protector seeks vengeance on Morgan to protect his own skin. He endures the agonies of bereavement and financial loss, incarceration in prison and aboard the notorious "hulks," then the horrors of the journeys to Botany Bay and Norfolk Island, where he finds against all odds a new love and a new life. Richard Morgan's story is true, but in making Morgan the central figure of her novel, Colleen McCullough has created a hero whom no reader will ever forget; she has written not only a great adventure and a powerful love story, but also a book that combines the elements of Tom Jones and Mutiny on the Bounty. Morgan's Run is great fiction, full of drama, passion, history, love, and hatred, full-blooded and totally engrossing, a stunning work that is at once rich entertainment -- and a revelation. |
