When it comes to LCD TVs, Sharp is considered one of the top brands to many consumers. Recently the company has released a new line of TVs called the Aquos. These sets are able to display 1080 signals, which is considered top in LCD TVs. In this article I will detail my review of the Sharp LC-46 XD1E LCD model. I will tell you what is good and bad about the TV.

Good Points

One of the top features of the set is its picture detail in high definition viewing. It has a 1920 x 1080 resolution. This means that when you view the picture it will appear less pixilated and more realistic. You will view it almost as if it were a real-life object in front of you. Even the colors are quite true.

Unlike most LCD TVs this model has a deep black level. You will not often see a good black level on an LCD. This is because the backlight is constant on. With the Super View Black panel, this model is able to have that deep black. It helps to make the image look less like it has been washed out.

Most LCDs have problems with blurring when there is a lot of fast action. However, Sharp has managed to make this problem less significant in this model. It has a scanning backlight that makes the scenes more fluid in movement. I would not mind watching a sporting game on this set.

The low cost is definitely a perk. When it comes to a set of this size (46 inches) that is a full HD and 1080p, you will not find a better price.

Bad Points

Unfortunately this set has a bit of a red push to it. Sharp wanted the skin tones to be more realistic so they came up with a 4 wave backlight. It offers red, green, blue and crimson red. This system ended up making the scenes with red in them appear too red. It is possible to desaturate the red with the menu, but it will dull out the other colors as well.

The screen is slightly uneven. This is not unexpected as it is nearly impossible to have a uniform screen on a large screen model.

You will see banding across the screen on occasion. It is especially noticeable on a grey background. However you will see it against any light color as well. Many have complained about the unwanted noises coming from their set. This electronic buzz and humming sound are present in various backlight levels. The only way for you to stop the noise is to power off the set. When it comes to an LCD TV this model is a great deal for what you pay. There are some negatives that you have to endure, but in my opinion they are worth it.
