Almost Everybody Loves Raymond and it isn't surprising either. The comedy series charmed people all over the world even though the plot was based on an old concept of battling wives, nosy in laws and everyday life problems. However, it was the skills of the actors that managed to make the difference. The show is all about the family, however, it also manages to show how annoying families can really be at times.

The lead character of Raymond is played by Ray Romano who is sports writer and a father and husband in Long Island. He is quite neurotic and sometimes even self-absorbed. Raymond's wife is Debra, played by Patricia Heaton who is quite critical and sometimes very demanding. The couple has three children, a daughter and twin boys.

The other family members live right across the street which includes his parents, Marie played by Doris Roberts and Frank played by Peter Boyle. Frank is quite outspoken, blunt and sometimes plain nasty. Debra on the other hand is a complete opposite. She is very critical of her daughter-in-law and thinks that she is the best cook and mother. Debra also gets quite smothering sometimes to her sons and is dreaded by Raymond. Another important character on the show is Raymond's brother Robert played by Brad Garrett who is a giant police officer. Robert loves his mother and can't get away from her while he is always over-shadowed by his brother.

Raymond always finds himself in weird situations and funny encounters. He has a family but he still wants his freedom to do male stuff sometimes. He is always torn between his wife and his mother and is often the mediator between the two of them. Raymond's parents too make an interesting couple, they are always fighting and bickering while Frank more than often says nasty stuff about his wife and yet they do love each other.

The show first premiered in 1996 and it became an instant hit with audiences as well as critics. Everybody Loves Raymond seasons 1-9 set DVD is a collection of all the episodes which made the show so popular. Since it was launched it became one of the top rated shows on CBS in no time. In 2001, the show managed to become the second most popular comedy TV series after Friends and the only one on US Top Ten when Friends went off air.
