Dennis Prager, a Jewish, conservative radio talk show host, tells his audience that we all carry these three basic American values around in our pockets. He reminds us that those values appear on the money of the United States: Liberty, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust. He named these values The American Trinity.
These observations are quite appropriate at this time in the history of America. Dennis Prager links these values to the coinage and currency of America and therefore to the personal economy of Americans. The concept of liberty relates directly to money. Whoever controls the money of Americans affects the liberty of Americans.
We rely on money for our life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, those inalienable rights of Americans. When others control our money those rights are diminished.
This isn't a made up fantasy of the 2st century. Throughout the history of mankind, when governments control the money that citizens produce, governments are autocratic, repressive, even murderous. Look at the current examples in Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea today.
What is happening in Washington DC is equally disturbing. America citizens are facing the greatest loss of liberty in our country's 233 year history. Democratic icons like Jefferson and Jackson and Republicans like Lincoln, the soul of the Republican party, would be equally disturbed by the greed for the accretion of power and the accumulation of wealth in Washington in 2009. The more of our money that the US Congress and the Executive Branch controls, the less liberty we have.
It makes me proud to see and hear American citizens shouting down the puppets of the political parties. It is truly American to demand the transparency and honesty promised during the 2008 campaign. Let's all pray that the US Congress backs away from the failed strategy that holds them in its grip in 2009.
That can only happen if Americans challenge the DC oligarchy that denies we the people our ability to create and manage our own personal economies without their meddling.
