An Officer And A Lady
In a paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, there are two people who do not know that they exist. Amid a calm, warm, and windless night, one of them unknowingly was waiting for the other; and something happened.
The mature Security Officer carries his uniform elegantly, but it was to him a long and complex day with a court appearance and enforcing regulations with a rather unruly crowd of recalcitrant folks. He feels exhausted, and his stamina all used up. He is hungry, thirsty, and in need of rest. That night, he wouldn't care how he carries his uniform.
In the solitude of the late evening hours, he literally drags himself walking to a nearby bus stop just to sit on a bench and give his aching legs a deserved rest. All he wants is a set of wheels to give him a ride home, and to sleep; but a man proposes and someone out there disposes.
Sitting on the bench the officer will find to sit on at a bus stop, there was a woman. In the bareness of the night, at a distance she detects the scene of a man in uniform. After he reaches her bench, the officer offers his salutation; but he appears discontent and borderline irritable. To justify his state of mind, the officer briefly reveals to the only passenger at the bus stop why he may appear unfriendly.
In an almost perfectly quite environment, both are alone and no one is on sight. She gracefully started a placid, serene, and courteous conversation likely to soothe a man in need of something kind, and he perceived her intention. The officer's intuition tells him about qualities the lady irradiates, and suspects that the strange woman may be a rare specimen. To correspond to her act, the officer forces himself to relax showing genuine interest in her words; and in the kind attitude that transpires behind them.
After a while, they came aboard a bus almost empty. The officer and the lady took a seat separately, and there was no further contact. The short bus ride took them to an intersection where both got off at. She went her way across the street after waiting for a pedestrian light to turn green, and one more street crossing to a short walk that took her to a hotel with front stairs leading up to its lobby.
The officer, however, stood at the intersection watching her walking until she reached the hotel stairs and vanished in the lobby; but before she did, the officer managed to observe something. It was an ephemeral glance of hers looking in his direction just one split of a second before she faded away in the hotel's lobby. Probably, the lady felt the officer's eyes following her every move walking toward the hotel; and if that was the case, she needed a fugacious glance to answer her burning question: "Is he still there ?"
The officer had an enigma of his own, and rushed across the street; but he did not wait for the pedestrian light to turn green. He felt an urge to walk upstairs to look inside the hotel's lobby and see if that unexplored and rare lady who offered him soothing words and a kind moment was still visible in the glittering lobby. He saw her when she turned away from the front desk looking down at her mail.
The officer used that moment to contemplate her. He perceived one of few and far between women showing up in a man's life. His moment ended when she detected his presence, and like thunder, she felt a spike of excitement running through her own self.
Minutes ago, the lady's fugacious glance confirmed what she felt, but his presence in that lobby was a different matter. He was motionless and anchored next to the entry door contemplating her without saying a word or making gestures. His intriguing and provocative action kept the lady breathless, and her excitement unfaltering.
She now has more burning questions: "Why is he there ?", "What does he want ?", "What am I supposed to do ?" The officer remained immutable, and silently made use of his presence to send her a message without words. He was hoping that the lady may interpret the insinuated content of his wordless message.
The only excuse she had to escape his eyes was to shuffle her mail. She did so until she finally read between the lines, and deciphered his message. The lady then needed time to decipher if she wanted in or out. Meanwhile, they both were holding their breaths in suspense. She was a bundle of nerves, but appeared to be calm when she stopped shuffling letters and walked toward the officer. They were not yet face to face when their hearts were already pounding.
It was the beginning of an exhilarating moment that started when they looked at each other in their eyes like an unalloyed man and a real woman do it: not playing games. Several seconds went by contemplating each other. If a moment may have magic, that was it. Such enchanting and glowing state kept them both breathless like no other prior instance in their lives. It lasted until she breathed in and whispered a question to the officer: "Are you still hungry ?", "...and very thirsty as well." he whispered back.
She took time before rolling her dice and saying to the officer... "I have food in my room. I can prepare you a meal. Would you like to come up... to my room ?" The officer did not respond right away. Instead, he chose to perceive the qualities of a classy woman mirrored in her titillating eyes. His silence, however, brought cliff-hanging suspense to the lady. The officer rolled his dice when he accepted her noble intent to address his appetite after a long and exhausting day.
Motivated and excited, the lady asked the officer to give her five minutes time before going up to her room. He said that he will go for a while. She was afraid that he may be leaving, but the officer brought relieve saying that he will only go out to bring in something to drink; and that he promises to knock on her door in ten to twelve minutes time.
The officer was back as promised, he was invited in, and the dead-quite hotel's fifth floor heard the sound of a door closing. It was a sound that sealed their destiny. What may happen between a man who feels in the prime of his life and a real woman happened that calm, warm, and windless night in such paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
...and this is what may happen.
She found ways for the overworked officer to relax and to feel comfortable. She then begun to prepare the best meal that she could with the food she had. Approaching the time the meal was ready, he set up a small table and opened the bottle of wine.
The beginning of dinner was pleasant. They felt at ease and comfortable with each other's presence as the renaissance to that congenial and courteous conversation they already started at the bus stop was thriving. Even when separated by a small table, the closeness did not threaten a fine time growing into an invigorating one. The conversation remained fresh, a tad diplomatic, but affinity and rapport developed making it enchanting.
The lady cleared the table and poured in more wine as the officer searched for music on the radio. Lucky he, it did not take much to find music he wanted. At a short stretch from her, the officer exquisitely held up her hand and ~in French~ he invited her to dance. He was expecting her to get too close to a strange man that she met only three hours ago. Maybe so, but few times in her life the classy lady of scarce qualities felt so thrilled.
Dancing for the first time, they held each other swaying to the music as their hearts were pounding for the second time in the same night. Their moment felt so entrancing, and when they exchanged a few glances, it felt even magical. The officer acted on instincts ~or feelings perhaps~ already chasing their path to a passionate kiss as both remained holding each other softly dancing to sounds that cuddled their senses.
The classy lady was captive in a bewitched world that she was taken to, and she did not want to leave that world nor her fascination. She had a desire for more of an officer still carrying his uniform elegantly. The officer, instead, had kindhearted words expressing a wonderful time he spent with her, he showed thankfulness for the noble offering of her meal, and said that he should leave. After exchanging few words, the officer kissed her hand. The now not-so-lonely strangers said Good Night to each other.
Only they know what came about the day after that calm, warm, and windless night in a paradisiac and alluring place somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
...but this is what may also happen.
She found ways for the overworked officer to feel relaxed and comfortable as she gladly begun to prepare the best meal that she could with the food she had. Approaching the time the meal was ready, he set up a small table and opened the bottle of wine.
The officer knew, however, that he may get more than a meal and swallow of wine; and so, the first thoughts run through his mind. After all, this woman invited him to her hotel room one hour before midnight. He assumed that she must want what he wanted.
No congenial and courteous dialogue developed. There was no rapport, and no candid affinity. They just chewed food until he took her to dance as a crude excuse to hold her in his arms and give her a kiss that surely felt to her fake and artificial. Music was still playing sublime sounds, but nobody was softly dancing when he swiftly moved her over to the bed just few feet away.
The lady did not feel captive in a bewitched world. Instead, she felt vulnerable and pled for him to not continue. She even attempted to appeal to his conscience, but the lady rapidly become aware that the officer's determination was not negotiable. More satisfied than when he left work few hours ago, the officer walked out of the room giving a last look at the lady still on the bed covering her almost naked body.
The mature officer was unalloyed, intelligent, and romantic; but at the least expected moment of his life, he was presented with one inescapable and destiny-defining decision choosing which of the two ways to pursue. His human qualities, the values he uses to go through life, and his conscience were put to the test.
Was the elegant Security Officer decorous ~and dignified the exquisite lady~ when he turned the late evening hours in such romantic event but leaving the hotel room before making manifest the works as in Galatians 5:19 OR was he right carrying out the plans running through his mind ?
Discuss it, Ladies and Gentlemen. Discuss it.

It is found in places with sloe thickets and particularly orchards. It is also called Sail Swallowtail or Peartree Swallowtail. The Southern Swallowtail (Iphiclides feisthamelii), is sometimes treated as a subspecies. It is widespread throughout Europe with the exception of the northern parts. Its range extends northwards to Saxony and central Poland and eastwards across Asia Minor and Transcaucasia as far as the Arabian peninsula, India, and western China. A few specimens of the Scarce Swallowtail have been reported from central Sweden and the UK but they were probably only strays and not migrants. Scarce Goods $35 In 1841 the American sailing ship William Brown struck an iceberg. About half of the passengers and all of the crew were saved in two small, open boats. The next night, half of the passengers in the larger long-boat were thrown overboard because the boat was overfull. This was the first case of lifeboat ethics, of hard choices in the face of scarcity. Since then the question has been who should die so that others, equally needy, might live? Both the case of the William Brown and the ethics it spawned have been used in recent years to describe the problem of health care rationing generally, and organ transplantation specifically. Koch reexamines and reinterpretes the paradigm case of lifeboat ethics, the story of the William Brown, not as an unavoidable tragedy, but as an avoidable series of errors. Its relation to more general issues of distributive justice are then considered. The lessons learned from both the historical review and its application to distributive principles are then applied to the problem of graft organ distribution in the United States. Through the use of maps, the problem of organ distribution is considered at a range of scales, from the international to the urban. The contextual issues become more evident as one moves from international to hemispheric, fron national to regional, and then local systems. Finally, Koch reviews the lessons in light of other problems of distribution in the face of scarcity. The central lesson-that scarcity is exacerbated where it is not in fact created by our distributive programs-is explored thoroughly. The result is no good choices for anyone and the continuation of the scarcity that for most seems inevitable, but, from the evidence provided, is itself an outcome of inequalities of distribution at different scales of society. Of particular interest to students, scholars, and policymakers involved with issues of planning and health care economics, medical geography, and concepts of justice. |

Management of Scarce Water Resources $178 Arid and semi-arid countries have historically suffered from a plethora of complex water concerns due to its climatic limitations. Research in these regions has long supported the necessity of delivering life sustaining access and availability to water while being inherently linked to several inter-related factors, including technical and economic issues, human resources, health and private sector participation. Regional conflicts and controversial political agendas have also exercised a profound impact on the viability of co-operative water resource and management perspectives. Dr Hazim El-Naser has applied his experiences as a water expert and ministerial position in Jordan by looking at a wide variety of water related topics that explore the problems the MENA countries face in respect to water resource management. This book focuses on his experiences to highlight the complexity of these problems and advocate practical solutions, and uses recent case studies to provide a framework to assist the practitioner in resolving these problems. |

Heather and Snow by MacDonald, George [Hardcover] $41.98 Castle Weelset was not much of a castle: to an ancient round tower, discomfortably habitable, had been added in the last century a rather large, defensible house. It stood on the edge of a gorge, crowning one of its stony hills of no great height. With scarce a tree to shelter it, the situation was very cold in winter, and it required a hardy breeding to live there in comfort.
