In life-time, movies were one field of entertainment that Michael Jackson never seized. In death, the King of Pop may finally expand his kingdom to the multiplex.
Sony Pictures settled a trade Monday to publish a musical film composed from 80 hr of rehearsal footage shot in preparation for the 50 London concerts Jackson was making when he deceased June 25.
Called after the title of those concerts, which Jackson had vowed would be his last, the film This Is It is scheduled for release Oct. 30.
The motion-picture show will be available at the same time nationwide and around the world on that date, Sony Pictures spokesman Steve Elzer says. It's a quickly turnaround for a movie, but Elzer says editors have been at work on the footage since earlier the deal was struck, and the leftover two months will be plenty of time to perfect the task. "We're not rushing it, but we do desire to get it out there," he enounces.
Sequences will be in 3-D, and new questions are planned with those who knew and operated with Jackson on the sketchy project.
Talks to build up the footage for theatrical release started in mid-July, about three weeks after Jackson's decease. A bidding war between the ranking Hollywood studios went out then for the still-unfinished film.
The press release announcement arrived shortly after Sony's last bid of $60 million for the motion picture rights was authorized Monday by a Los Angeles County probate court parceling out deals between Jackson's land and concert booster AEG Live, which had to refund $85 million for ticketholders to the London shows. But AEG is cool to profit from the revitalized love for all things Jackson.
What continues unclear is the course the film will take: Will it be pure performance from Jackson, or is there final interview footage? Will it take on only the most processed rehearsals, or will audiences see faces of the show in unelaborated form?
And how will the film call his decease? A chronological plan of attack, building to his last night of rehearsal or will it duck his death totally?
AEG representatives associate with the footage did not instantly return calls for commentary.
It's also confusing what the public's appetite will be.
"The whole thing is about DVD gross sales, which will be healthy. But not theatrical," anticipates David Poland, older industry newsman for Movie CityNews.com. Recent concert movies by U2 and the Rolling Stones have had tepid box-office runs.
"You're demanding people to go to a movie theater and pass $10, $15 to see a concert of old vocals they'll see on DVD in the incoming few months," Poland says.
Are you willing to watch this is it movie featuring performances from Jackson and individual interviews? This is it movie has the nearly impressive rehearsals and the world-class moves that multitude was expecting to see Live.
This film likewise takes Michael Jackson's dead in a very sensitive way and forms a chronological approaching to his last night of rehearsal where the emotion and deep feelings on the audience will be guaranteed as they see this is it movie that holds on single never saw footage featuring the king of pop on his final days.
Get set to watch this is it movie, what is went gonna be possibly the biggest performance by the king of pop
