Rare Mint

When you are buying or selling baseball, football, basketball, or hockey cards, the value attributed to the card's worth will rely on its condition. In the industry, descriptions are taken into account each time a sports card is bought or sold.

Following are the condition descriptions that define a sports card, starting from the best condition to the worst condition.

Mint

When a card is in mint condition, it is known to be a perfect card. No printing imperfections or damage can be physically seen or detected on the card.

Near Mint/Factory Fresh/Pack Fresh

This condition describes a collector's grade card that could have a minor imperfection that occurred during production, or there is slight damage that is evident on the card from handling or storage. However, a collector would have to look at the card closely to notice the imperfection. A card that is considered near mint condition would appear very similar to the way it looked when it left the factory.

Mint/Near Mint

When sellers or collectors refer to their cards as being in mint or near mint condition, they're referring to anything that's close to mint condition.

Excellent

This would be a perfectly undamaged card, nearly perfect, and it might have a bent corner or another imperfection, but it would be minor.

Fine or Very Good

A sports card described as fine or in very good condition would contain imperfections, but the damage would not easily be seen except upon close inspection.

Good

A card that is considered to be in good condition would have small amounts of writing on it; it is centered poorly, has a mild crease, or shows wear on the corners, but it's in otherwise good condition.

Fair

A fair condition card is a damaged card. It has significant creases on it, and oftentimes the corners are completely damaged or worn down.

Poor

This is the worst type of condition you could ever have for a sports card. It's severely damaged, and it has little value. However, if it is an extremely rare card, or it's considered a limited edition, it still would be considered in poor condition, but its value would be higher than a card that was not rare.
