American Rare Earths & Materials (OTC:AREM) Takes Stand Against China: +40%
American Rare Earths & Materials (OTC:AREM) has been on the move today gaining more than 40 percent on heavy volume. Just before the close, shares of American Rare Earths had given back most of its ground and was up 3 percent at $0.33 per share on volume of 714,000 shares. The SmallCap company released news on Tuesday of this week about its game-plan on dealing with China.
Dr. Nataliya Hearn, CEO of American Rare Earths announced new technology and business platforms to fight the Chinese stronghold of Rare Earth metals. Dr. Hearn noted China's refusal to resume exports of Rare Earth metals to Japan has now expanded to Europe and the United States according to The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/25/business/global/25rare.html?ref=china) and stated that the Company's focus on Rare Earths and Materials processing and applications will provide economical alternatives to the "latest act of Chinese aggression."
The company's new structure consists of three (3) main business platforms providing immediate solutions to potential shortages and growth of the companies future revenue streams:
1. Industrial Applications -- providing Rare Earth metals, super alloys, and advanced chemicals to the industrial and commercial markets
2. Mining and Processing -- providing new supply of Rare Earth metals and other strategic resources to the global market from new mining sources and new extraction technologies of the tailings from current mining facilities
3. Licensing and Marketing -- selling industrial, ingredient and consumer brands and technologies under the AREM umbrella
"Our overall goal is to provide new applications and solutions for large industrial customers in the North American markets to compete and provide solutions to the current Chinese embargo. Our expertise in Rare Earth metals is substantial, including development of applications in consumer and industrial applications," stated Dr. Hearn.
Since 2002, the company has been commercializing Rare Earth metals. This has led to the development of a unique value chain that includes the extraction of Rare Earth metals, the development of patented Rare Earth metal super alloys and the manufacture of end products using Rare Earth metal components.
Dr. Hearn noted, "Our expertise in this category has begun to be recognized, we are approaching a 52-week high in our market capitalization and we are on path to announce several new strategic partnerships and relationships."
American Rare Earths is a leader in commercializing Rare Earth metals and quickly delivering revolutionary new products to consumer and industrial markets. The company is focused on low-risk, high-return, high-demand industries that use Rare Earth metals including aerospace, alternative energy, automotive, power transmission, shipbuilding, and transportation as well as selected consumer markets (sporting goods equipment).
The company also develops advanced chemicals and materials. American Rare Earths & Materials is committed to becoming American's best and most reliable source for Rare Earth metals and advanced chemicals and materials and to fully leverage the global mega-trends in these categories.

The Rare and the Beautiful $10.99 Like the better-known Mitfords, the Garman sisters took center stage in Bohemian London during the first half of the twentieth century. Beautiful, flamboyant, and headstrong, they broke away from middle-class conventions, seducing and inspiring a generation of artists. Kathleen, an enigmatic artist's model and aspiring pianist, was the lover and, later, wife of controversial American-born sculptor Jacob Epstein. Mary married the maverick poet Roy Campbell, whose verse attack on the Bloomsbury group following Mary's affair with Vita Sackville-West was the literary scandal of the epoch. Lorna, the youngest and most beautiful of the sisters, was the lover of both the painter Lucian Freud and the poet Laurie Lee. The Rare and the Beautiful offers the first portrait of a beguiling band of eccentric siblings who possessed an uncanny ability to turn heads, break hearts, and spark creative genius. Set against the exciting backdrop of London's decadent subculture, it evokes their extraordinary milieu of high culture, drama, and scandal. |

Live & Rare $12.99 Reagan Youth: Dave Insurgent (vocals); Paul Cripple (guitar); Al Pike (bass); Steve (drums).Recorded between 1982 & 1988. Includes liner notes by Nicky Garratt.Unlike most CDs with this title, this one is no slipshod, thrown-together, cheap make-a-buck CD. Live & Rare replaces Reagan Youth's first (good but flawed) album as the real document of one of the better-remembered hardcore bands of early-'80s New York. When they were high schoolers, they regrettably didn't have their sh*t together to accept an invitation for the seminal 1981 compilation New York Thrash, as befit their emergence as a beloved group on that genuinely fresh scene. But oddly enough, when Al Pike joined on bass and '60s Who/Jam/Chords fan (such mod leanings were super-rare in N.Y. hardcore!) Steve Weissman took over the drums, they actually became a far more powerful and aggressive unit, twice the previous power. So it matters that Live & Rare is dedicated exclusively to the Pike/Weissman era (a little more than a year) and wisely compiles the best of five 1983 CBGB gigs and a few studio cuts when the band peaked. In contrast to their passable (but not as loud or smashing) studio work, this live stuff smokes as it should from the memory of these hot, sweaty, packed-in, wild, afternoon gigs. This takes you back! Whew! Although you're deprived of the sight of charismatic, hyper-friendly, garrulous, big-eyed, oddly innocent, but somehow also super-intense frontman Dave Insurgent (whose descent into narcotics took the band down, then tragically took his life), his personality still drives this car. Perhaps the anti-system lyrics seem na?ve to the more "why bother" youth of today, but his irrepressible spirit was symptomatic of when everyone believed punk to be the true protest music of its time (and hand in hand, the true hot rock & roll of the period!) in that post-Watergate, Reagan-led era, a position history has validated and vindicated. Reagan Youth weren't the best or the brightest in punk or hardcore, but like the other greats of 1982, they had a certain something -- real belief, real distaste, and real camaraderie -- and with the right band/attack this time, it's exciting once more to hear. ~ Jack Rabid |

Rare High Meadow of Which I Might Dream $16.36 "The Bird is Her Reason" There are some bodies that emerge into desire as a god rises from the sea, emotion and memory hang like dripping clothes--this want is like entering that heated red on the mouth of a Delacroix lion, stalwart, always that red which makes my teeth ache and my skin feel a hand that has never touched me, the tree groaning outside becomes a man who knocks on my bedroom window, edge of red on gold fur, the horse, the wild flip of its head, the rake of claws across its back, the unfocussed, swallowed eye. "Rare High Meadow of Which I Might Dream" is a book haunted by the afterlife of medieval theology and literature yet grounded in distinctly modern quandaries of desire. Connie Voisine's female speakers reverberate with notes of Marie de France's tragic heroines, but whereas Marie's poems are places where women's longings quickly bloom and die in captivity--in towers and dungeons--Voisine uses narrative to suspend the movement of storytelling. For Voisine, poems are occasions for philosophical wanderings, extended lyrics that revolve around the binding and unbinding of desire, with lonely speakers struggling with the impetus of wanting as well as the necessity of a love affair's end. With fluency, intelligence, and deeply felt emotional acuity, "Rare High Meadow of Which I Might Dream "navigates the heady intersection of obsessive love and searing loss. Praise for "Cathedral of the North" "Voisine's poetry is wholly unsentimental, tactile, and filled with unexpected beauty. She is political in the best sense. . . . A dazzling, brave, and surprising first book."--Denise Duhamel, "Ploughshares""" |

Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths: The Role of Rare Earths in Catalysis $294.99 Among the numerous applications of the rare-earth elements, the field of catalysis accounts for a large number. Catalysis represents approximately 20% of the total market sales of rare earths worldwide. As a matter of fact two main applications have been prominent in the last decades: zeolite stabilization for fluid cracking catalysts, and automotive post-combustion catalytic treatment. The oldest use of rare earths in catalysis deals with the structural and chemical stabilization of the zeolites for petroleum cracking applications. For a long time this has been an area of application for non-separated rare earths. The addition of several percent of rare earths in the pores of the zeolite results in a strong surface acidity, which is essential for an efficient conversion of high-weight molecules into lighter species, like low-octane fuel, even in the very aggressive conditions of the petroleum industry. The popular demand for high-quality air in spite of the traffic congestion in large cities resulted in larger and larger constraints in the emission exhaust from cars. Thus highly efficient catalysts have had to be designed, and due to the combination of its redox properties and very good thermal stability, cerium oxide has been since the beginning, early in the 1980s, a major component of the three-way catalysts (TWC) now used in all modern gasoline cars. The future of rare earths in catalysis is probably bright. The fact that approximately 400 patents are applied for yearly in the area since 1992 is an illustration of a very active area. Usage of rare earths in catalysis is expected to grow due to their highly specific properties. Instead of the physical properties used in electronic applications, one deals now with redox properties, water and thermal stability, coordination numbers and so forth. The rare earths are so specific in these properties that their use can hardly be avoided, not only for the beauty of academic studies but also for the development of industrial applications with immediate influence on everyday life. Careful control of the synthesis conditions and the definition of optimum composition in each case are the keys to the preparation of highly performing compounds for catalytic applications. They must actually be considered as high performance products with functional properties, and not just chemical species. Chapters devoted primarily to catalysis have been published in earlier volumes of the Handbook. In this volume several more are added. The first is an extension of the earlier chapter 43, on interactions at surfaces of metals and alloys, to reactions such as hydrogenation, methanation, ammonia synthesis, saturated hydrocarbon reactions, dehydrogenation of hydrogenated materials, hydrodesulfurization, and carbon monoxide oxidation. The second chapter reports on the wide variety of catalyzed reactions involving metals and alloys in the innovated form of metal overlayers or bimetallic compound |

A Rare Sensation $4.05 Abigail Ashton had a weakness for injured animals and hotheaded cowboys. So when she found both a lame horse and rodeo rider Russ Gannon at Louret Vineyards, she decided to extend her vacation. Abby may have come to Louret to find the family she'd never known, but she'd stay for the pleasure only Russ could bring her. Russ was a glorified farmhand and part-time rodeo star--not the kind of man that usually dated socialites. But Abigail was not high maintenance, not self-involved. What she was was hot. And she made him hotter just thinking about her. But he had to ask himself a question: What could he possibly offer an Ashton virgin? |

Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths $294.99 The contributions to this volume focus on selected chemical aspects of rare-earth materials. The topics covered range from a basic treatment of crystalline electric-field effects and chemical interactions in organic solvents, to separation processes, electrochemical beaviors which impact corrosion, oxidation resistance, chemical energy storage and sensor technology, and to analytical procedures. Underlying the most subtle chemical and optical properties of these elements and their compounds in the condensed state are the crystal field effects. This phenomenon in non-metallic compounds is discussed in chapter six. The volume opens with a review of important new solvent extraction procedures as well as emerging alternative separation processes such as photochemical separation, precipitation stripping and supercritical extraction. Scientific and industrial procedures are illustrated. In a further chapter eight major analytical techniques of obtaining accurate trace analysis are examined, tabulated and assessed. The most effective procedures of each are also reviewed. Chapter two considers a wide variety of methods using rare-earth solutions and slats to modify advantageously the costly deterioration of metals and alloys. This topic is expanded in the following chapter, paying particular attention to protection against high-temperature oxidation, sulfidization and hot-salt corrosion. The following two chapters are concerned with the versatility of the rare earths in addressing current technical problems such the use of rare-earth intermetallics, principally LaNi3-based materials, to provide the skyrocketing need for environmetally friendly, usually portable, battery power. The final chapter is a review of the solvation, interaction and coordination of rare-earth salts in a variety of organic solvents including dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulfoxide, various alcohols, acetonitrile and propylenecarbonate under strict anhydrous conditions. A contrast of these interactions with those in which water is present with organic solvents is also made. |

Rare Breed (Agriculture) $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A rare breed is defined as a breed of livestock or poultry that is not common in modern agriculture, though it may have been in the past. Various national and international organizations, such as the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy or the Rare Breeds Survival Trust of the United Kingdom, each define the exact parameters of what defines a rare breed. Many breeds that qualify as rare by these standards may only have a few thousand or even just a few hundred breeding individuals. These organizations pursue conservation of heritage livestock and poultry for their unique traits, which can contribute to genetic diversity among animals important to human food supplies and economies, as well as general biodiversity and improvements in animal husbandry. The parallel of rare animal breeds are heirloom plants, which are rare cultivars. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths: High Temperature Rare Earths Superconductors - I $294.99 This volume of the Handbook is the first of a two-volume set of reviews devoted to the rare-earth-based high-temperature oxide superconductors (commonly known as hiTC superconductors). The history of hiTC superconductors is a few months short of being 14 years old when Bednorz and Muller published their results which showed that (La, BA)2CuO4 had a superconducting transition of 30 K, which was about 7K higher than any other known superconducting material. Within a year the upper temperature limit was raised to nearly 100K with the discovery of an 90K superconducting transition in YBa2Cu3O7-&dgr;. The announcement of a superconductor with a transition temperature higher than the boiling point of liquid nitrogen set-off a frenzy of research on trying to find other oxide hiTC superconductors. Within a few months the maximum superconducting transition reached 110 K (Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3010, and then 122K (TlBa2Ca3Cu4O11. It took several years to push TC up another 11 K to 133 K with the discovery of superconductivity in HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8, which is still the record holder today. |
