Champ Bailey, the MVP of Denver
Champ Bailey knocked away the potential tying touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Sam Hurd with 1 second left and the Denver Broncos escaped with a 17-10 over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. 4-0 already is good enough for a two-game lead in the AFC West.
Denver's top-ranked defense really inpressed. DB Champ Bailey broke up a possible TD pass from Cowboys QB Tony Romo to Sam Hurd with 1 second left. This was the first time in his career that Romo has gone two consecutive games without throwing a TD pass.
The Broncos took the lead on Brandon Marshall's 51-yard touchdown catch with 1:46 remaining. The Cowboys came back to try to score, and on fourth-and-goal from the 2, Tony Romo dropped back and found Hurd cutting over the middle. Champ Bailey reached around and slapped the ball away at the last second.
Champ Bailey's game-saving pass break-up gave the Broncos their first 4-0 start since 2003. On the rushing side of things, Denver, which has the league's top-rated defense, Dallas' league best rushing attack to just 74 yards on 25 carries, less than 3-yards a carry.
While Denver is now 4-0, the Cowboys are now 2-2. The game seemed to be all Dallas at first, as the Cowboys rode out to a 10 - 0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
However, in the second quarter, Denver cut the lead to 10-7 when safety Renaldo Hill forced a fumble by Romo. Denver LB D.J. Williams recovered inside the Dallas 10-yard-line, and then, six seconds later, Kyle Orton threw a pass to RB Knowshon Moreno.
There was no scoring in the third quarter, but Denver hit a 28 yard FG in the fourth quarter, then had Brandon Marshall's 51-yard touchdown catch with 1:46 remaining. That set up Dallas's game-ending drive, with Champ Bailey's heroics saving the game.
