Quarters Coins
![]() |
Change is all around us, and not just because it's midterm election season. You can't buy a donut without dealing with pennies, nickels or dimes, and sometimes all three. It's part of the joy of being a coin collector: unlike with other hobbies, nearly everything you buy gives you a chance to make valuable additions to your collection. If you're really starting to get interested in numismatics, though, you might want to take the plunge and start buying silver quarters. Here's a few advantages they have over those coins you might get anywhere:
They're Pristine: If you buy the quarters directly from the United States Mint, you can be assured they've never been touched by human hands. Considering all of the gunk and grime that gets coated onto even the most delicately handled pieces of change, this could be a welcome benefit for some collectors.
They Show Detail Better: Artists take a long time developing the reverse sides of coins like those in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. If you buy the highest quality coins possible, you can be sure that you're getting the full effect of their work - essentially, you're buying a tiny round piece of art that you can keep in your pocket. Try doing that with Guernica.
They're More Beautiful: Nothing against copper or nickel, but those metals simply can't compare to the beauty of silver. If you're the kind of person who has to have the best-looking of everything, you can't do any better.
They're Worth More: If you happen to run into a rare defect or a low mintage, having the best possible coin means that you can really cash in when collectors start looking for it. If you're looking to get into change as a money-making business, the best profit margins can be found with the most beautiful coins.
If you're just happy to keep an old jar full of sundry coins, you probably wouldn't want to waste your money on silver quarters. But if you're interested in the most beautiful possible coins you can buy, they can be a great investment.
Xavier is a Native New Yorker who loves the look of silver quarters.
