When designing a nursery, it's important that you pick out the right color for your baby's room. The color scheme that you choose will set the ambiance, or room atmosphere. It will also give your nursery a very unique mood. So you will want to take your time when selecting colors for your baby's bedroom.
Soothing colors are probably the best choice for a baby's nursery. Soothing colors add a very soft and sweet nursery feel that will lull your baby to sleep, and they create a tranquil environment that your baby will enjoy. Soothing colors that you may want to consider for your baby's nursery includes soft pink, pale blue, sea-foam green, lavender, cream, and pale yellow.
According to Martha Stewart, a single color will have more depth if you layer it with a variety of tones. For example, if you want to create a sunny and soothing nursery environment, you may want to choose yellow as your main color. You can accent your baby's room by using many shades of yellow - banana yellow, pale yellow, and egg yolk yellow are just a few of the color tones that you can find.
If you're considering two main colors for your baby's nursery, you may want to choose two contrasting colors. For example, if you choose an intense, bright color, you should pair it with a subtler, softer one.
Boy or Girl?
When you're picking the color scheme for your baby's nursery, you may want to keep your baby's gender in mind. If you're having a little girl, you might want to consider using traditional feminine colors - such as pink and purple. Despite what you think, you have a lot of variety with these colors.
For example, you can find almost every shade of pink imaginable. If you're looking for a very faint pink, consider amaranth pink or carnation pink. On the other end of the spectrum, you will find rose, ruby, magenta, and Persian rose. The same principle holds true for purple. The light purples include periwinkle, wisteria, and thistle. The darker pinks can sometimes look more blue. These include Han purple, Persian blue, and iris.
If you're expecting a little boy, you can enjoy the flexibility of choosing a variety of hues for blue and green.
Not sure if you're going to have a little boy or girl? Gender neutral nurseries are becoming more popular these days. Black and white are two unisex colors that are popular with both mom and baby. Your baby will love the contrasting nature of black and white, and you can enjoy how elegant and beautiful your nursery looks. If you want a bit more variety for your unisex baby's room, consider decorating with earth colors - browns and tans.
Consider the Sun and Get Paint Samples
If you're still unsure of the right colors for your baby's room, you may want to spend some time in your future nursery. Go to the nursery at different times during the day and look at how the sunlight hits the room. Does the room receive direct sunlight throughout the day, or indirect, or no sunlight at all?
How the sunlight hits your baby's room will determine the brightness of the room. If your nursery is naturally sunny from the sunlight, you should keep in mind that any color that you choose will be naturally brightened during the day. Make your decision based on that.
Next, you should head to your local home improvement store and pick up paint samples. Take a variety of paint samples and then tape them to the wall of your future nursery. Spend time looking at the samples at different times during the day, and consider what nursery decor and what nursery theme that you'd like in your baby's room. Go from there.
