Eminem - Recovery - album review by HHUnit - 7.5/10
Eminem : Recovery - review
Written by hype Monday, 21 June 2010 09:45
Album Rating: 7.5 (out of 10)
Em releases Recovery just over a year after his last album, 2009's Relapse. "I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," remarked EMINEM. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."
On Recovery, his seventh major label studio album, EMINEM has reached out to an exciting list of first-time collaborators, including DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Pink,Rihanna and Boi-1da, among others. Slim Shady opens up the album with a head shot,a Just Blaze produced 'Cold Wind Blows' . Em spits his sharp and shocking bars over aggressive snare and bass. Here Marshall takes us back to his early days as he sounds on point as ever. Dj Khalil produced 'Talkin 2 Myself' a track where Eminem is once again brutally honest as he admits almost dissing Weezy out of pure jelaousy :
''I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne , It's like I was jealous of him because of the attention he was getting , I felt horrible about myself ,
He was spittin' and I wasn't , Anyone who was buzzin' back then could have got it almost went at Kanye too''
The collabo with Pink feels a bit out of place as Em enters unfamiliar teritory,it's obvious that's a move for heavier airplay rather then goin for musical chemistry. 'Not Afraid' is the first single thats been gettin a lot of buzz even before the album came out.
There are a few slumps on Recovery and one of them is 'No Love' ,it features Lil Wayne over a sample of Haddaway's What Is Love. This song is too commercial even for Eminem, and thats noteable on various songs on the album,Eminem goin too pop,for my taste at least. But on the other hand when he gets in his zone magic comes out of the speakers. Eminem shows maturity all over Recovery as he aims for substance over shock value. His personal themes of recovery, unapologetic perspective, switching between anger and remorse, pride and self-loathing and a dose of black humor is what makes this album stand out in his collection.Yes,it's different from his previous work and it might take a listener a few spins to get acustomed to the new Slim Shady. '25 To Life' is a pure Marshall Mathers track as he focuses on his torn relationships. Just as things are about to get a bit repetitive Em hits us with a Dr.Dre produced 'So Bad' ,and he kicks his slick ass lyrics over a dense beat. On 'You're Never Over' Em chooses crooning on a hook about his fallen friend Proof, and at the same time it's a rapid-fire lyrical assault that leans heavily on uplifting bars aimed at overcoming the grief. Album end with a bonus track 'Untitled' where Eminem puts his bad-ass face on once again. Overall, the project is very interesting and shows Em's artistic growth mixed with all of his skills that made him who he is today.

Numbers and Proofs $61.55 'Numbers and Proofs' presents a gentle introduction to the notion of proof to give the reader an understanding of how to decipher others' proofs as well as construct their own. Useful methods of proof are illustrated in the context of studying problems concerning mainly numbers (real, rational, complex and integers). An indispensable guide to all students of mathematics. Each proof is preceded by a discussion which is intended to show the reader the kind of thoughts they might have before any attempt proof is made. Established proofs which the student is in a better position to follow then follow. Presented in the author's entertaining and informal style, and written to reflect the changing profile of students entering universities, this book will prove essential reading for all seeking an introduction to the notion of proof as well as giving a definitive guide to the more common forms. Stressing the importance of backing up "truths" found through experimentation, with logically sound and watertight arguments, it provides an ideal bridge to more complex undergraduate maths. |

Proofs and Theories $13.89 Winner of the 1993 PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Non-Fiction, "Proofs and Theories" is an illuminating collection of essays by Louise Gluck, whose most recent book of poems, "The Wild Iris, " was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. Gluck brings to her prose the same precision of language, the same incisiveness and insight that distinguish her poetry. The force of her thought is evident everywhere in these essays, from her explorations of other poets' work to her skeptical contemplation of current literary critical notions such as "sincerety" and "courage." Here also are Gluck's revealing reflections on her own education and life as a poet, and a tribute to her teacher and mentor, Stanley Kunitz. "Proofs and Theories" is the testament of a major poet. |

Proofs of a Conspiracy $21.61 "Proofs of a Conspiracy" is John Robison's depiction of the secret order of the Illuminati, as he describes it ." the Order of the Illuminati, founded in 1775, by Dr. Adam Weishaupt, professor of Canon law in the university of Ingolstadt, and abolished in 1786 by the Elector of Bavaria, but revived immediately after, under another name, and in different form, all over Germany. It was again detected, and seemingly broken up; but it had by this time taken so deep a root that it still subsists without being detected, and has spread into all countries of Europe." His examination of this order, born of freemasonry, has induced him ." to lay before the public a short abstract of the information which he hopes] sufficient for establishing the fact, that this detestable association exists, and its emissaries are busy among us]." |

Proofs Without Words II $33.07 Like its predecessor, Proofs without Words, this book is a collection of pictures or diagrams that help the reader see why a particular mathematical statement may be true, and how one could begin to go about proving it. While in some proofs without words an equation or two may appear to help guide that process, the emphasis is clearly on providing visual clues to stimulate mathematical thought. The proofs in this collection are arranged by topic into five chapters: geometry and algebra; trigonometry, calculus and analytic geometry; inequalities; integer sums; and sequences and series. Teachers will find that many of the proofs in this collection are well suited for classroom discussion and for helping students to think visually in mathematics. |

Proof in Geometry: With Mistakes in Geometric Proofs $10.77 This single-volume compilation of 2 books, "Proof in Geometry" and "Mistakes in Geometric Proofs, " explores the construction of geometric proofs. In addition to offering useful criteria for determining correctness, it presents examples of faulty proofs that illustrate common errors. High school geometry is the sole prerequisite. 1963 editions. |

Math Proofs Demystified $19.95 Almost every student has to study some sort of mathematical proofs, whether it be in geometry, trigonometry, or with higher-level topics. In addition, mathematical theorems have become an interesting course for many students outside of the mathematical arena, purely for the reasoning and logic that is needed to complete them. Therefore, it is not uncommon to have philosophy and law students grappling with proofs. This book is the perfect resource for demystifying the techniques and principles that govern the mathematical proof area, and is done with the standard “Demystified” level, questions and answers, and accessibility. |

God, Reason and Theistic Proofs $26 "Attempting to prove the existence of God is an ancient and venerable tradition within the discipline known as the philosophy of religion. But can we truly prove the existence of God using human reason alone? Just how do we prove the existence of God? Why try? Which, if any, of the various theistic proofs are persuasive? God, Reason, and Theistic Proofs tackles these fundamental questions head-on.Stephen T. Davis examines a cross-section of theistic proofs that have been offered by theologians and thinkers from Anselm to Paley, explaining in clear terms what theistic proofs are and what they try to accomplish. He then goes on to explore in depth the relationship between theistic proofs and religious realism, the ontological argument for the existence of God, the cosmological and teleological arguments, the position known as foundationalism, and the argument from religious experience.Wisely structured and clearly written, this volume will make an excellent resource for those looking for a comprehensive introduction to the debate surrounding the existence of God, or for those seeking intellectual validation for their faith." |

Lectures on the Proofs of the Existence of God $110 Peter C. Hodgson provides a new translation of Hegel's 1829 lectures on the proofs of the existence of God, based on the definitive German edition. Coming late in his career, these lectures give us the great philosopher's final and most seasoned thinking on a topic of obvious significance to him, that of the reality status of God and ways of knowing God. - ;The Hegel Lectures Series. Series Editor: Peter C. Hodgson. Hegel's lectures have had as great a historical impact as the works he himself published. Important elements of his system are elaborated only in the lectures, especially those given in Berlin during the last decade of his life. The original editors conflated materials from different sources and dates, obscuring the development and logic of Hegel's thought. The Hegel Lectures series is based on a selection of extant and recently discovered transcripts and manuscripts. Lectures from specific. years are reconstructed so that the structure of Hegel's argument can be followed. Each volume presents an accurate new translation accompanied by an editorial introduction and annotations on the text, which make possible the identification of Hegel's many allusions and sources. Lectures on the Proofs of the Existence of God. Hegel lectured on the proofs of the existence of God as a separate topic in 1829. He also discussed the proofs in the context of his lectures on the philosophy of religion (1821-31), where the different types of proofs were considered mostly in relation to specific religions. The text that he prepared for his lectures in 1829 was a fully formulated manuscript and appears to have been the first draft of a work that he intended to publish and for which he signed a contract shortly before his. death in 1831. The 16 lectures include an introduction to the problem of the proofs and a detailed discussion of the cosmological proof. Philipp Marheineke published these lectures in 1832 as an appendix to the lectures on the philosophy of religion, together with an earlier manuscript fragment on the. cosmological proof and the treatment of the teleological and ontological proofs as found in the 1831 philosophy of religion lectures. Hegel's 1829 lectures on the proofs are of particular importance because they represent what he actually wrote as distinct from auditors' transcriptions of oral lectures. Moreover, they come late in his career and offer his final and most seasoned thinking on a topic of obvious significance to him, that of the reality status of God and ways of knowing God. These materials show how Hegel conceived the connection between the cosmological, teleological, and ontological proofs. All of this material has been newly translated by Peter C. Hodgson from the German critical editions by Walter Jaeschke. This edition includes an editorial introduction, annotations on the text, and a glossary and bibliography. - |
