Commemorative gold coins are popular because they have our history engraved in their designs. Be they uncirculated or proof, these are offered to the coin collectors, enthusiasts, and investors because these people know how valuable these coins are.
Going back in history, the 1892 Columbian Exposition half dollar was one of the first commemorative gold coins that were circulated. These were produced for 53 different occasions and events. Individuals are always on the look out for these coins because they know how valuable this is to a collection. They also know that if they were to re-sell these, they can make profit if they just sell at the right time.
Here are more examples from the time they were introduced the US Government until today. There is the George Washington Carver Booker T. Washington Half Dollar that has been going around from 1951 to 1954. Then there is the Brooker T. Washington Memorial that was circulating from 1946 to 1951. In 1946, the Iowa Centennial was introduced. In 1938, the New Rochelle, New York Half Dollar was making waves and the Battle of Antietam in the year before that.
In 1936, fifteen commemorative gold coins came into circulation. These are the Maine Tercentenary, Wisconsin Territorial Centennial, Robinson-Arkansas Centennial, Rhode Island Tercentenay, the Virginia Bicentennial. The Virginia Sesquicentennial, the Long Island Tercentenary, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Illinois Centennial, the Delaware Tercentenary, the South Carolina Sesquicentennial.
The Cleveland Great Lakes Exposition, the Cincinnati Music Center, the Connecticut Centennial, and the Bay Bridge San Francisco-Oakland Half Dollar. In 1935 to 1936, the San Diego-California-Pacific Exposition was circulated. In 1935, the following commemorative gold coins were manufactured: these were the Old Spanish Trail Half Dollar, the New York Sesquicentennial Half Dollar, and the Connecticut Tercentenary Half Dollar.
When you purchase commemorative gold coins, it's like you're already making an investment. You're not buying gold per se but you are still investing in something gold and solid that you can make use out of in the years to come. That is if you know when to buy and when to sell these. You can ask an expert for the going rate of the commemorative gold coins that you have in your possession. Two factors that affect the prices of these investments are the history behind these and the rarity.

Bicentennial Man - $8.99 If a robot spends enough time around humans, can he learn to become one of them? The Martin family purchases a domestic android as a servant and names him Andrew (Robin Williams). Andrew comes to know the man of the house as Sir (Sam Neill), his wife as Ma'am Wendy Crewson, and their daughter as Portia (Embeth Davidtz); before long, the Martins suspect that they do not have an ordinary robot on their hands. Andrew seems capable of expressing emotion and generating original thoughts, and the longer he stays with the Martins, the more strongly these human traits manifest themselves. Over the next 200 years, Andrew becomes less a machine and more a member of the family, until a mechanic (Oliver Platt) tells Andrew that he might be able to turn him into a human being. Based on a short story by renowned science fiction author Isaac Asimov (surprisingly, it's only the second Asimov story to be brought to the screen), Bicentennial Man was directed by Chris Columbus, who previously worked with Robin Williams on Mrs. Doubtfire. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Fehrenbacher, these two books include all Lincolnas significant works, including both sides of the complete Lincoln-Douglas debates, dozens of speeches, hundreds of personal political letters, communications to the generals in the field, presidential messages and proclamations, poems, and private reflections on democracy, slavery, and the meaning of the Civil Waras immense suffering. Bicentennial Essays on the Bill of Rights $3.95 African-Americans have had an ambivalent relationship with the Constitution for more than two hundred years. Throughout most of American history, racist interpretations of the Constitution have sanctioned a legal system supportive of slavery, marked blacks as inferiors, rendered them politically powerless, and denied them justice and access to society's resources. Yet both black and white opponents of slavery and racial subordination--from antebellum abolitionists to twentieth-century civil rights leaders--have found principles in the Constitution that support their demands for freedom, citizenship, and equality. In Promises to Keep, Donald G. Nieman tells the story of this paradoxical relationship, tracing it from the birth of the Republic to current battles over school segregation, voting rights, and affirmative action. While Nieman examines the devastating effects of constitutionally sanctioned racism on the lives of African-Americans, he also shows how blacks and their white allies have been active agents of constitutional change since the early nineteenth century, forging an egalitarian constitutionalism and using it to press a reluctant nation to honor its long-deferred promise of equality. Compact, lively, and readable, Promises to Keep illuminates the past and offers a fresh perspective on the current debate over civil rights, showing how it too often ignores the tragic history of law and race in America. This is the first volume of Bicentennial Essays on the Bill of Rights, an important series co-sponsored by the Organization of American Historians and Oxford University Press, under the general editorship of Kermit L. Hall. |
