There's simply no way of avoiding it- if you're riding a bike; you need to wear a helmet. Statistically, most riders crash at an average of every 4,500 miles. Furthermore, 700 cyclists die each year with a whopping 75% of these deaths caused by head injuries. While bike helmets seem frivolous, this one accessory can lower the severity of a head injury by 48 to 85%! If you're still hesitating, let it be known that wearing a helmet is legally mandatory, which thereby means that you're breaking the law if you still choose to stubbornly ride without a bike helmet.
Even if you are simply riding around your backyard, it would still be prudent to don a bike helmet as a fall at low-speeds is also enough to cause injury to your head! Rather than putting your most intelligent organ at risk, it would be highly recommended that you consider the option of wearing a helmet, however unfashionable it may seem.
The Sponge in the Helmet
The main function of a helmet is to protect the skull by absorbing the impact force during the fall. In order to absorb the sudden load, the inner side of the helmet is lined with stiff foam to help cushion the rider's head. Most manufacturers make the stiff foam out of a white substance known as expanded polystyrene. The downside to using this material though is that once it is squished, the foam will not return to its original state. This is why other manufacturers provide cyclists with foam called expanded polypropylene (EPP) that does recover, although helmets made up of this lining is fairly uncommon. The expanded polyurethane (EPU) is also commonly found in bike helmets although it tends to weigh heavily on the rider's head, thereby causing discomfort.
Strap on For Dear Life
For some reason, there are some cyclists who favor wearing the bike helmet without strapping them tightly to their head. This is, as you can expect, a pretty bad idea as during a fall, your head will be hitting more than one surface and a helmet that flies off your head isn't going to be doing much protection. A good helmet should be snug on your head and should be strapped on with a robust buckle.
As a conclusion, you should also read more on a bicycle helmet and everything about cycling at http://www.cyclinghow.com/.

Passport Please $16.99 "Passport Please is the fast moving story of conflict between the rulers of two neighboring countries. The citizens themselves are the prize that is being fought over. While many make it out of harm's way, almost no one makes it out alive. The countries? Earth and the kingdom of heaven. The rival rulers? The kingdom's Royal family and their ousted former general, Lucifer. The conflict? The Royals have established a garden colony on earth and Lucifer considers that to be an illegal land grab in his territory. The colonists are caught in the middle. Possible legal settlement? It had better be in writing, especially if the other guy is a snake. The question? Who gets across the border into heaven when the clock runs out? Passport Please follows the cover-to-cover story of the Bible, in a way you have never read it before, with a focus on getting through passport control into heaven. Lucifer's ejection from heaven, the garden of Eden, circumcision, the virgin birth, baptism, communion, the rapture, the Gutenberg press, the judgment, even the mysterious Nephilim all play a logical role in the story of getting humans through passport control, into the kingdom. Not familiar with the Bible? No problem. Read Passport Please and you will be. Pete Nielsen is an entrepreneur in international business initiatives.
