Ein Penny ist kein Pfennig! $36.73 Hauptbeschreibung Mnzen gehen seit Jahrtausenden durch viele Hnde und sprechen viele Sprachen. Sie sind oftmals ber Jahrzehnte im Umlauf und erzhlen Kennern viele Geschichten. Die tiefe Verwurzelung insbesondere in den Kulturen der deutsch- und englischsprachigen Welt macht Mnzgeld aber auch aus bersetzungs- und sprachwissenschaftlicher Perspektive zum spannenden Forschungsthema. Der bersetzer Jonas Pfestorf betrachtet die Numismatik daher aus dieser Perspektive. Zunchst spannt er kursorisch den Bogen von der Mnzgeschichte des deutsch- und englischsprachigen Raumes ber Werkstoffkunde und Prgetechnik bis zur fertigen Mnze an sich. Im Vordergrund der folgenden Auseinandersetzung steht der Vergleich zwischen der deutschen und englischen Fachsprache. Der Autor diskutiert synonyme und mehrdeutige Bezeichnungen und deckt dabei Benennungslcken, regionale Varianten und einen Mangel an echten Termini in beiden Sprachen auf. bersetzungsprobleme treten vor allem im Kontext kultureller Besonderheiten in Erscheinung, etwa bei Erhaltungsgraden und Whrungs- oder Mnzbezeichnungen. "Pound" ist zwar mit "Pfund" quivalent bersetzt, ein englischer Penny aber noch lange kein deutscher Pfennig. Neben diesen pragmatischen berlegungen kommen auch Etymologien und Redewendungen mit mnzkundlichem Bezug zur Sprache.
