· The How do we value a persons worth?
· What is the belief system around money and work in our American society?
· Why do people who run large corporations feel entitled to take billions of dollars from their stockholders?
· Bernard Madoff will spend another weekend in his $7 million New York condominium after scamming people out of $50 billion dollars.
· Do people in our society work and help each other only for personal gain or because they feel it is the right thing to do?
· Are the people running the American corporations so greedy and narcissi that they are only concerned about their personal gain? Where does it stop?
· Is money their only motivator or are their actions based on their ideals and judgment about what's right and wrong?
· Do people take pride in the outcome of their work or is there only concern about "getting the job done, and get their salary?
· What DO Americans value?
· Does the person you pay $1,000 a week, work twice as hard as the person you pay $500 a week?
· Is the person you pay $1,000 more important or valuable to the company than the person you pay $500 a week.
· Is the person earning $1,000 a week expected to work twice as hard as the person earning $500?
· What goes through your mind when you see two people one person driving a new Rolls Royce and the other driving a ten-year old Chevrolet?
· Stop and think for a moment why does a pro basketball player earn millions of dollars a year while a teacher, who is responsible for educating our children, earns barely $50,000 a year?
· Do we think we need to pay more to get a job well done?
The belief system I grew up with tells me if I pay more for someone to help me they will work harder and produce better results. However, in the past few weeks, that thought has been challenged. I am testing my belief system, to see what the truth really is for me. I am working very hard to make changes to my business so I will produce more revenue. Every time, an employee comes up with a great idea and more work is required I feel as though I need to pay him/her more money for their idea. Does that devalue the job they were doing before they had the idea? Does it create undo competition between co-workers? Exactly, what does this "throwing money at the wolves" really mean? As a young child I can remember giving someone an orange if they would play with me at recess. I think that set me up for a lifetime of false beliefs about the value of our worth. The thought pattern that people are there for me, only if I give them money, is a belief I am glad to lose.
Will someone work twice as hard if you pay them more money?
I recently hired someone to help me with a business project. As the project grew so did her responsibilities. I found myself increasing her salary every time we talked until I stopped and asked myself...will she only continue to put the effort into the project if I keep giving her more money. In my heart I hoped that wasn't true but that age old message "you get what you pay for" was loud and clear in my thoughts.
What is your incentive to do your best work?
This is a very old pattern of mine. That people will only be there only if I give them something of monetary value. I want to change that little voice that says, "people only care about money and won't help you unless you give, give, give". I am trying to come to terms with the reasons, I have willingly given thousands and thousands of dollars away thinking that would solve the problem when in fact, and it only creates more problems. I know I would live a happier life if I could disprove this old belief and truly accept that people care and will work hard whether you give them a penny or a hundred thousand dollars.

In for a Penny $11.94 Penny Birch is back, as naughty as ever. In For a Penny continues the story of her outrageous sex life and also the equally rude behavior of her friends. From stories of old-fashioned spankings, through strip-wrestling in backed beans, to a girl with unusual breasts; it's all there. Each scene is described in loving detail, with no holding back and a level of realism that comes from a great deal of practical experience. |
