It has been just over four years since So You Think You Can Dance captivated audiences around the world. And already the show has begun its sixth season. The auditions are done, and the finalists have battled their way through some daunting choreography during Vegas week. The judges narrowed the running down to 38 promising contestants. But only 20 dancers could make it into the top 20 of So You Think You Can Dance season 6.
This season, the judges chose a diverse set of dancers for their top 20. While contemporary dancers still hold the most spots, season 6 has broadened their talent pool. For the first time in So You Think You Can Dance history, three tap dancers and a krumper have made it to the top 20.

Husband and wife contestants Ryan and Ashleigh Di Lello were afraid of being split up. Since Ryan had stood out so much more than his wife in auditions, it seemed like he'd be claiming a spot in the top 20 without her. But thanks to a stroke of luck, Ryan and Ashleigh both made the cut. One female dancer, Paula Van Oppen, rejected her spot in the top 20. She received a movie contract and couldn't turn down the opportunity.
The top 20 dancers for season 6 of So You Think You Can Dance have been chosen, and already this season has made history. Tune in on Monday, October 26 when the top 20 dancers partner up and hit the stage.

Speaking with George Oppen $55 Seventeen interviews with George and Mary Oppen, conducted between 1968 and 1987, are here brought together for the first time. Two are fresh discoveries, while re-audited recordings of other interviews have given a new authoritative accuracy to the text. These conversations provide a unique account of a major American poet's evolution, through the Depression, war, exile and a return to poetry after two decades of silence. They span Oppen's early years as an Objectivist, his assessments of such as Ezra Pound and William Carlos Williams, and his views on the merits of his later contemporaries Allen Ginsberg, Jerome Rothenburg and others. Above all, it is Oppen's detailed commentary on his own writing, and his explanations of how individual poems unfold, which gives special importance to these new collected interviews. |

George Oppen $28.57 A selection of innovative poems by the groundbreaking Pulitzer Prize winner. The Selected Poems is a unique selection of Oppen`s work from the seven books he published during his lifetime. Edited by one of our most respected contemporary poets, Robert Creeley, who provides an informative introduction, George Oppen`s Selected Poems includes Oppen`s only known essay, "A Mind`s Own Place," as well as "Twenty-Six Fragments" which Oppen wrote on envelopes and scraps of paper and posted to his wall, edited by Stephen Cope. Also incorporated is a helpful chronology and bibliography of his writings by Rachel Blau DuPlessis, celebrated editor of Oppen`s letters. On his death, Hugh Kenner wrote, "George Oppen, gentlest of men...prized what took time, found the grain of materials, exacted accuracy." Oppen`s Selected Poems is the perfect text for teaching and a remarkable window into a world of lasting light and clarity. |

In the Common Dream of George Oppen $18.44 The life of George Oppen (1908-1984) thwarted the expectations of a literary career. After publishing his first book at 26 with a preface by Ezra Pound, Oppen gave up poetry to become an organizer for the Communist Party. At the age of 37 he served at the front lines in WWII, considering it his duty as a Jew to fight fascism. After receiving a Purple Heart and returning to the U.S. he immediately was forced into hiding, due to his Red past in the age of McCarthyism. After a 25-year hiatus from poetry he returned to the art in his 50s, writing and publishing seven books, one of which-Of Being Numerous-won a Pulitzer Prize. Comprised of both poetry and essays, Joseph Bradshaw's In the Common Dream of George Oppen makes its premise to imagine what bodies of work might exist in Oppen's fabled 25 year silence. By turns, the book forcefully projects a singularly fabricated biography onto the figure of Oppen, then self-reflexively retracts, divagating through a poet's desire for mentorship and community. Bringing in everything from ruminations on blurry memories of Idaho's landscape, to dialogues held across centuries & continents with the likes of figures such as the Elephant Man, In the Common Dream of George Oppen brushes up against the fragile boundary between the finished and the unfinished poem, or a finished or unfinished life. |

George Oppen and the Fate of Modernism $99 This study of 20th-century American poet George Oppen promises to become a key resource for those interested not only in Oppen himself, but in the history of literary modernism. Drawing extensively on largely unpublished papers and presenting material that has not yet appeared in print, Peter Nicholls gives a detailed account of Oppen's life and work, enriched by close readings of many of his poems. - ;Regard for George Oppen's poetry has been growing steadily over the last decade. Peter Nicholls's study offers a timely opportunity to engage with a body of work which can be both luminously simple and intriguingly opaque. Nicholls charts Oppen's commitment to Marxism and his later explorations of a 'poetics of being' inspired by Heidegger and Existentialism, providing detailed accounts of each of the poet's books. He is the first critic to draw extensively on the Oppen archive,. with its thousands of pages of largely unpublished notes and drafts for poems; in doing so, he is able to map the distinctive contours of Oppen's poetic thinking and to investigate the complex origins of many of his poems. Oppen emerges from this study as a writer of mercurial intensities for whom every. poem constitutes a 'beginning again', a freeing of the mind from thoughts known in advance. A strikingly innovative and challenging poetics results from Oppen's attempt to avoid what he regards as the errors of the modernist avant-garde and to create instead a designedly 'impoverished' aesthetic which keeps poetry close to the grain of experience and to the political and ethical dilemmas it constantly poses. - ;a thoroughly researched and closely argued account - Jules Smith, Times Literary Supplement |

The Music of Thought in the Poetry of George Oppen and William Bronk $29.95 From his careful readings of George Oppen's and William Bronk's poetry to his fascinating examination of the letters they exchanged, Weinfield provides important aesthetic, epistemological, and historical insights into their poetry and poetic careers. In bringing together for the first time the work of two of the most important poets of the postwar generation, The Music of Thought not only illuminates their poetry but also raises important questions about American literary history and the categories in terms of which it has generally been interpreted. |

Depression Glass: Documentary Photography and the Medium of the Camera-Eye in Charles Reznikoff, George Oppen, and William Carlos $172.47 This interdisciplinary study examines the interrelations between the documentary poetics of "Objectivism" in the United States during the 1930s. Focusing on three volumes published by the Objectivist Press in 1934--Charles Reznikoff's "Testimony," George Oppen's "Discrete Series," and William Carlos William's "Collected Poems, 1921-1931"--the book examines both photographic and linguistic images, along with criticism, correspondence, transcripts of interviews and lectures, contemporary periodicals and other documentary sources from these years. Reznikoff, Oppen, and Williams each constructed textual objects that aspired to the condition of the photograph, and the successes as well as the failures of that aspiration are the subject of this book. Juxtaposing selected works by these three poets with the camera work of Walker Evans, Lewis Hine, and Alfred Stieglitz, "Depression Glass "also exposes some of the fundamental affinities between documentary photography and modern poetry as forms of expression. This study challenges some of the critical commonplaces of American modernism by demonstrating how these poets comprised an alternative "tradition" dedicated to a project of social realism that would later become the exclusive territory of prose. |
