The United States Mint first produced the American Eagle silver coins in 1986 and has since issued these coins annually. This gave way for the public to invest in American silver and as a collectible U. S. coin item. It is the only silver bouillon coin acknowledged authentic by the United States government. The coins contain one troy ounce of 99.9 percent silver and are legal tender for one dollar.
However, the American Eagle silver is sold and traded based on its silver value in the market plus $1.50 for each coin. Excesses of silver in national defense stockpiles were used to mint the Eagle coins. However, with the depleted supply of silver, coins are now produced by the United States Mint through silver bought from the open market. The Silver Eagle coin, also called Eagles, is 1.598 inches (40.6 mm.) in diameter, 0.77 inch (2.98 mm.) thick, and 31.1 grams in weight.
In metal composition, it is 99.9 percent silver and 0.1 percent copper. Like other precious metal coins, the Silver Eagle has a receded edge. The U.S. Mint engraver, John Mercanti, designed the reverse side of the Eagles using an American eagle heraldry. The American Eagle is at the center of the reverse side with a breast of shield, arrows in its right talons, and an olive branch in its left talons. Above the eagle heraldry is an inverted pyramid arrangement of 13 stars for the 13 colonies and on top of it is the nation's name. The bottom part contains the terms " 1 OZ. FINE SILVER " for the metal content and the denomination words of " ONE DOLLAR." On the eagle's outstretched wings, on wide bands, is the nation's motto " E Pluribus Unum. " The obverse of the Eagle shows a Walking Liberty originally from the half dollars, circulated from 1916 to 1947, designed by Adolph Weinman. The minting year and the mottoes " LIBERTY " and " IN GOD WE TRUST " are also found on the obverse of the Eagle.
The American Eagle Silver Coin is distributed in two versions: uncirculated or proof. The uncirculated version has never been circulated in public but it is distributed through authorized purchasers like banks or brokerages. It is bought as collection or security in national disasters and bank failures when paper money becomes valueless. The proof version has mirror-like finish and it is sold directly to the public as collector's items. Owning An American Eagle silver Dollar, in whatever year, is an investment one can truly trust.

Obverse and Reverse $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The term, obverse, and its opposite, reverse, describe the two sides of units of currency and many other kinds of twosided objects most often in reference to coins, but also to paper currency, flags, medals, drawings, old master prints and other works of art, and printed fabrics. The terms may be interchanged respectively with the more casual, but less precise terms, such as front and back or, for coins only, heads and tails also occurs. In many areas other than coins, reverse is used much more commonly than obverse. Front and reverse also may be used together more frequently.
