White gold purity is also measured in karats. The number of karats is determined by the kind of white metal used in the mix. For example, white gold that contains measurable amounts of silver or palladium has more karats then say a white gold that contains nickel in its mix. Nickel makes the it more durable, but less valuable to gold and silver dealers and refiners.
This precious metal is primarily used in jewelry making, in such items like earrings, necklaces, rings or ankle bracelets to name a few. The white variety is particularly popular today for making navel or belly button rings, or nose studs or pins used to pierce cheeks, eyebrows or other body hidden body parts. The white gold mix also causes the metal properties to vary. For instance, a mix of yellow gold and palladium is more pliable or bendable and therefore ideal for creating settings for stones, like diamonds. Adding nickel to the yellow gold makes it stronger and great for making rings that are expected to last for generations. However, it is made, the created piece is always sealed with a layer of rhodium in order to protect the finish from scratches and other wear.
Gold dealers and refiners who deal in yellow gold also welcome all gold regardless of color. In order to locate the right company with which to do business, do a search online utilizing your favorite search engine. It will turn up dozens of websites ready and willing to buy your gold and silver or other precious metals. Beware of the scammers and fly by night sites that have popped up all over the internet in these tough economic times. A few questions and a little research will lead you to the reputable companies and dealers hidden among them. Search with phrases such as, "cash for gold," or "sell your gold and silver." Read their FAQ sections carefully. Read the fine print connected to sales carefully. Check out their past customers as well as their references. Once you've had all your questions answered to your satisfaction, make the deal.
