Too many times we look at all of those boxes stored away in the attic or basement and consider trashing them for a split second. Nostalgia quickly kicks in and we keep that old sentimental stuff just because we can't bear to see it all go into the trash. The truth is that we simply don't want to trash our treasures because in their time, they brought us so much joy. Besides we paid good money for them and might get something out of them someday.
How about now? Now is the perfect time to clean out the attic, basement or closet and sell your old treasures that have been hidden away for years. We live in a stressed economy and gently used items are a precious, and inexpensive, commodity. People buy used items quite frequently and collectors will pay nicely for old treasured items, especially if they're part of a series or collection.
How to Your Old Hidden Treasures for Cash
You may think people only buy things that are in mint condition. That isn't always the case. People will often overlook small scratches, surface scratches and blemishes to take advantage of a good offer. In fact, sometimes people view dents or dings as a bit of character and history. Follow these 9 easy steps and see how much money you've had lying around in your attic.
1. Dig that box of used items out of the attic.
2. Thoroughly examine each item for heavy signs of wear or damage.
3. Label one box "Sell" and another box "Trash."
4. Take out each item individually and closely examine it for dates or engravings. Some older items are quite rare and may sell for a lot of money.
5. Put each item in the appropriate box after you examine them.
6. Box up your old treasures and head to the computer. Do searches for them using your favorite search engine. See if others are for sale and how much money they brought
7. Don't overlook old video games, sometimes they're worth money. Consoles may even be worth money if they're not in working order.
8. Decide whether you're going to start selling via auction websites or build your own e-commerce website.
9. If you're looking at selling several video games, look for a company that will reimburse your shipping so you aren't just giving them away in the end. Some rare old video games are worth a lot of money so request a quote before shipping valuable items.
Special Editions and Collectibles
Keep an eye out for old items that may be worth a lot of money. Search for all name and date combinations for items you find. Nostalgia only goes so far and doesn't pay a car payment or put food on the table. If you can sell rare items for a pretty penny and stay out of sight of the wolf at the door, go for it.
Collections and special editions are definitely worth keeping together and in great shape. Video game collections are no different, so don't look at those old games and consider them trash. Collectors love finding good deals on those things and will pay nicely. Try to keep them in mint condition or as close to it as possible. They will have some understandable wear and tear and probably some dust from the attic, but keep them in the best condition possible to receive the best price possible.
Nearly all manufacturers of everything have released special editions of the items they make. Special editions may be in commemoration of decades of successful commerce or specific holidays. Holiday Barbie, for example, some Barbies are very rare and very sought-after by collectors.
Keeping with the old adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," you just never know when someone may be looking for something you've had sitting in a box in the attic for years. Spring cleaning could be quite profitable if you consider selling the old stuff you haven't touched in years to make room for new.
Take the hassle of out selling video games, The Old School Game Vault ( http://www.wcityauctions.com ) gives you great prices when you sell games online for cash.

Mint Hill $18.8 Like the Native Americans who once camped here, Mint Hill's early settlers were attracted to the Rocky River area by the many creeks and streams that cross the land. Rich soil, a mild climate, and the availability of large tracts of land made this an ideal place to live. The area grew as an agricultural community where early farmers had to rely on their industrious and self-sufficient natures to supply their basic needs. As the population increased, blacksmiths, tanners, and wheelwrights became common. With the invention of the cotton gin and the convenience of the Allen railroad station, farmers in the area found cotton to be a rewarding crop. The years have brought many changes to this once-rural farming area. While opening its arms to diversity and growth, Mint Hill continues to retain its country charm. |

Few people know its history and even fewer know how to properly mix this classic cocktail. Lighthearted, entertaining, and informative, The Kentucky Mint Julep explores the lore and legend of the Kentucky Derby's traditional tipple. Joe Nickell looks at the origins of the julep, offers a brief history of American whiskey and Kentucky bourbon, and shares some classic julep tales. Information on julep cups, tips on garnishing and serving, and reminiscences from the likes of Charles Dickens, Washington Irving, and General John Hunt Morgan give a fun, historic look at Kentucky's favorite drink. The book includes numerous recipes -- for classic juleps, modern variations, non-alcoholic versions, and the author's own thoroughly researched "perfect" mint julep. The Mint: A History of the London Mint from A.D. 287 to 1948 $41.36 For an august and important institution of the realm, whose activities concern every citizen so constantly and continuously, is it not surprising how little every citizen knows of the London Mint in detail? In this 1953 book its story up until the 1950s is told with unimpeachable authority by Sir John Craig, former Deputy Master and Comptroller of the Royal Mint and Engraver of the King's Seals. Any reader may follow the chronology of the Mint, from the many crude workshops of the early days to the central, nationally recognised organisation with statutory safeguards that it has become. Here they may read of those who influenced the growth and policy of the Mint, watch the development of monetary theory, as well as the changes in technical processes of coin making, and the gradual evolution of statutory control. The whole work is illustrated from the archives of the Mint. |

The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint $3.95 "If I could tell you only one thing about my life it would be this: when I was seven years old the mailman ran over my head. As formative events go, nothing else comes close." With these words Edgar Mint, half-Apache and mostly orphaned, makes his unshakable claim on our attention. In the course of Brady Udall's high-spirited, inexhaustibly inventive novel, Edgar survives not just this bizarre accident, but a hellish boarding school for Native American orphans, a well-meaning but wildly dysfunctional Mormon foster-family, and the loss of most of the illusions that are supposed to make life bearable. What persists is Edgar's innate goodness, his belief in the redeeming power of language, and his determination to find and forgive the man who almost killed him. The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint is a miracle of storytelling, bursting with heartache and hilarity and inhabited by characters as outsized as the landscape of the American West. |
