Mint Envelope

It wasn't so long that if you needed a certain issue of a comic book series to complete your collection, your only real options were to find it at local stores, trade with other collectors, or wait for a convention to roll around your town. With the internet and it's many services such as eBay, collectors can find practically any book they desire, and sometimes at great prices. The downfall to ordering comics through the mail is many sellers don't think about how to package up their books correctly so they arrive in the intended condition.

The problem is sellers either ship comics with little protection from bending and dog eared corners, or they ship with far too much protection and comics get damaged when the recipient tries to remove the layers and layers of tape, card, and other packing materials from the book.

When I ship a comic or multiple comics, I charge appropriately for the shipping. I take extra care and steps to make sure that any books will arrive as they were sent out.

Ship using a box, never an envelope. An envelope gets smashed or bent as it gets pushed through the US postal system. By using a box, you offer protection from all angles. Make sure the box has enough packing material in it so the books don't move around.

The comics themselves should be individually bagged and boarded. This seems like a no-brainer to me, but I get books without protection all the time. Package individual books in groups of five, and put two pieces of cardboard on the outside and wrap tape around the top and sides once.

By taking these two simple steps, your comics will arrive as they went out. If your customer is paying $25 for a variant cover special issue, they want it to be mint.

This last tip doesn't affect condition, but is just good manners. Don't use shredded paper as packing material! It gives off a lot of dust which can be bad for allergies, and it makes a huge mess. Scrunch up newspaper or craft paper will work just fine.
