The differences between neo-classicism and the baroque
For some, it was mass movement against the frivolity of Rococo Baroque and, the excavation of Herculaneum and Pompeii other was an inspiration as far as European publications on the ancient world as "the Ruins of Palmyra "and" The ruins of Baalbek "written by J. Wood and R. Dawkins and" The Antiquities of Athens by Stuart and Revett, for example, or Perhaps establishment of new republics of France or America, for which the universal model, classical and intellectual rules was necessary?
There is no reply but synonymous with social, political and cultural complexity of the 18th century in countries in particular have a reflection in the main motivations of the neoclassical movement and varieties next neo-classical.
Neoclassicism was present in each kind art or human activity on the material and the intellectual level, but the most spectacular discipline was architecture. First, because ancient Rome and Greek buildings were a source of discovery of the classical form of the ideal, harmony and purity of artists contemporaries. Secondly, because development of the wealth of modern Europe with a growing consciousness of their citizens in the "new" countries in the world wide with new political visions, requiring many new types of public buildings such as town halls, offices, government buildings, institutions universities, museums and also "new" type of objects as private villas. As we have seen, ancient world was not only inspiration for artists. There was also a great example for the great ideas of the new world.
After more than a hundred years of French rule over throughout Europe, where despotism is a rule, early 18th century of major social, political, cultural and industrial products for Europe and further. classical ideas of purity and harmony, block and idealism were ideal match for those demanding independent intellectual and informed. Generally, to describe the neo-classical in Europe 1750 years we accept as a start, but to discuss the architecture at least it is necessary to go back almost 40 years earlier in England, where the architect Lord Burlington has studied the plans of Palladio, where in Vitruvius publication of the '1715 C. Britannicus and G. Campbell The Leoni edition of Palladio, Four Books English architecture and later European fixed forever. Palladio and other architects of the 17th century such as ideas I. Jones were reflected in works of architects as Lord Burlington, who worked with William Kent, Colen Campbell and later Robert Adam, who was connected with the main current of neoclassicism. Palladio 'Villa Rotonda "was a great inspiration for the architecture of Burlington and others. It is pure style, symmetrical plan, domed central hall, four entries pedimented portico supported by Ionic columns 6 each, supplemented by 3 statues on top. Similar ideas of clarity, block and good taste may be found in works such as Chiswick House Burlington House or villa of Lord Burlington, Mereworth Castle and Wanstead House of Colen Campbell. The main principles were classical proportion and harmony, lightness and symmetry of the facades. Typical elements were boss fronts made, smooth and rough with a solid feel, porticoes, railings and roof in most cases, ends with statues. Facades have been created with mathematical precision, tastefully, always divided symmetrically by Ionic columns or or Doric pilasters. "Palladian windows" in which an arcuate portion opening at the center has been extended by two small rectangular windows, even with architraves was pushing the bow, each supported by two columns, rustic arches, blocked windows and doors surrounded pediment with cabochons in the center were commonplace. Baroque was a time when Europe was still mandatory in style with facades muscle due King's glory.
First phase of European neo-classicism comes back to France, where young students from the Royal Academy Architecture and L'Ecole des Arts have been trained at the Academie de France in Rome and influenced by the artist and communicator Charles and Louisa Clérisseau German antiquarian specialist Winckelmans Joachim, after the destruction of Herculaneum and Pompeii were discovered. Most Artists are the architects go to Rome and other ancient places in Italy. In traditional neighborhoods ruined temples or houses, they studied the ideas the ancient world and discover the ancient orders of architecture. First, theorist and French architects next developed the principle standard used by the ancient masters known as the primitive hut. It was simple in structure horizontal lintels were supported by elements Vertical - columns. In addition to the lintels, pieces were lodged in the roof slope shaped pediment. Part of the section of "primitive hut" included extended architrave, frieze and cornice entablature compound that has been essential even for old buildings. Just this section of the old buildings used by Neo-Classical architects, was totally different from baroque buildings. Columns of neo-classicism were used as building elements porches, porticos fronts within entablatures decorative friezes or as part of windows or doors compare baroque version in which it was the only decorative element used for printing. Other important elements were the pediments and friezes, finished sculptures Classic or innovative key reasons for architects in particular with its own model elements such as medallions, scrolling modes, abacus, and crowns Flowers circular. Reliefs were sometimes based on the type of building or particular purpose of Commissioners (industrialists, bankers, academics or institutions governments) could be described as "new patronage" still existed alongside Royal or pope.
As the main types of buildings Baroque palaces, castles and hotels with heavy ornate facades, grounds of the Renaissance classic distortion created for glory, reflects the dynamism, anxiety rose in neo-classicism, villas, town halls, museums or other educational institutions have been created with the master, main focus of the nobility and taste. Friezes and roof were finished with railings, statues of humans and creatures or another widespread form of mud. For most popular Ionic column was, but Doric, Corinthian or composite were also used. Interior neoclassical even reflects the classical ideas of beauty and purity of the old interiors, but with a new demand for more comfort, development of civilization and personal interests. Similar as outside, the inside of the main elements were columns and the number of sculptures that were on pedestals or niches.
The wealth of the most comfortable furniture, homewares excluding Sevres porcelain Wedgwood manufactures or the resistance of the walls of color always tastefully decorated and painted ceilings are not only the characteristics of domestic neo-classical but were also masterpieces designed and created by master neo-classical.
