There has been an increasing number of people that go to the gym in order to stay fit or gain body mass. Weightlifting has become a popular activity among a lot of young men and many are now addicted to body building. But very few individuals who lift weights realize the importance of wearing the right shoes to perform the task.
Shoes designed to lift weights started being made when the weightlifters started using the split position to lift heavy weights. The split was performed by moving a foot forward and the other backward. The rear foot rests on the ball and toes of the foot and the ankle as well as knee were significantly bent. The front foot rested flat on the floor and the shin was slightly bent forward. After the split, weightlifters came out with the 'squat' position in order to go lower. The Squat is done by simply moving both feet to the sides and fully bending the knees, hips and ankles. Both the feet must rest flat on the floor.
The problem with the squat is that it is impossible to keep both the feet flat on the floor while bending so low. The feet automatically rest on the ball and toes. The reason for keeping the feet flat is to allow stability while lifting such heavy weights. In order to prevent the feet from resting only on the ball and toes, shoe makers developed a shoe with a hard sole and raised heel. This raised heel filled up the gap between the heel and the floor, allowing great stability.
The raised heel provided stability and prevented damage to any of the lower extremities. But what about enhancing the performance? The weightlifting shoes not only have a raised heel but also have a hard sole which helps with lifting the weights. A hard, incompressible sole prevents the force which is produced to lift the weight from being dissipated against the floor. A shoe with a soft sole, like sneakers, not only prevent the force which is produced by the lifter from being used to lift the weight, but also make the base of the lifters body very shaky.
If you think your regular gym shoes are good enough to lift weights, think again. Bring out the best in you by buying a pair of weightlifting shoes. You will notice the difference the first time you try them on and will not regret spending on another pair of shoes.
