Laser Eye Surgery –The Most Popular Choice among Young People
Myopia is a big threat to young adults. Some are congenital, and some are acquired after birth. Nowadays, many treatments are put to use to correct their eyesight, such as eyeglasses, contact lenses and laser eye surgery. A plenty of young adults aged 20 to 25 prefer laser eye surgery to other prescriptions. Now that the cost of glasses or contacts is as much as a surgical procedure, the advantage of laser eye surgery is very obvious. The expense is not very much and it can solve the eye problem only by one surgery. Therefore a greater number of young adults choose to laser eye surgery to enhance their eyesight.
But does everyone can be treated by this method? The answer is absolutely no. Ophthalmologist suggest that young adults wait for at least two years after their eyesight is steady, as nearsightedness changes a lot in youth and can be steady at around 30.
After all, criterion above is not very clear and sometimes can be subjective. Whether to operate or not is still determined by the pre-op examinations. Only those who pass the exam have a good prognosis on operation.
If nearsightedness reduces the quality of one’s life, people with age-related eye problems suffer more. More than 200, 00 people in U.K. are blind due to old age. So ophthalmologists rack their brains to develop a technique to cure this disease. A professor at King's College named John Marshall is doing a research about how to delay age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and acquires primary effect.
Now here I will introduce the principle briefly. Behind the retina, there’s a thin membrane in which stays a lot of waste. John Marshall stimulates enzymes to clear the waste away so that the function of eye can get its breath again. The result of trial in clinical is delightful. But it’s not enough, and more efforts must be made to improve the technique. Marshall has a dream that the treatment will be put to use in clinics in the next two to five years.

John Marshall: Definer of a Nation $24.17 A New York Times Notable Book of 1996 It was in tolling the death of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835 that the Liberty Bell cracked, never to ring again. An apt symbol of the man who shaped both court and country, whose life "reads like an early history of the United States," as the "Wall Street Journal "noted, adding: Jean Edward Smith "does an excellent job of recounting the details of Marshall's life without missing the dramatic sweep of the history it encompassed." Working from primary sources, Jean Edward Smith has drawn an elegant portrait of a remarkable man. Lawyer, jurist, scholars; soldier, comrade, friend; and, most especially, lover of fine Madeira, good food, and animated table talk: the Marshall who emerges from these pages is noteworthy for his very human qualities as for his piercing intellect, and, perhaps most extraordinary, for his talents as a leader of men and a molder of consensus. A man of many parts, a true son of the Enlightenment, John Marshall did much for his country, and "John Marshall: Definer of a Nation "demonstrates this on every page. |

John Marshall: Writings $36.38 "It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department," John Marshall wrote in "Marbury v. Madison," "to say what the law is." As its Chief Justice from 1801 to 1835, Marshall made the Supreme Court a full and equal branch of the federal government. In so doing, he joined Washington, his mentor, and Jefferson, his ideological rival, in the first rank of American founders. His legacy extends far beyond "Marbury," which held for the first time that the Supreme Court has the power to declare acts of Congress unconstitutional. Under his leadership, the Court upheld the constitutionality of a national bank, established the supremacy of the federal judiciary over state courts and legislatures in matters of constitutional interpretation, and profoundly influenced the economic development of the nation through vigorous interpretation of the contract and interstate commerce clauses. His major judicial opinions are eloquent public papers, written with the conviction that "clearness and precision are most essential qualities," and designed to inform and persuade the citizens of the new republic about the meaning and purpose of their Constitution. This volume collects 200 documents written between 1779 and 1835, including Marshall's most important judicial opinions, his influential rulings during the Aaron Burr treason trial, speeches, newspaper essays, and revealing letters to friends, fellow judges, and his beloved wife, Polly. It follows Marshall's varied career before becoming Chief Justice: as an officer in the Revolution, a supporter of the ratification of the Constitution, an envoy to France during the notorious "XYZ Affair," a congressman, and secretary of state in the Adams administration. The personal correspondence gathered here reveals the conviviality, good humor, and unpretentiousness that helped him unite the Court behind many of his landmark decisions, while selections from his biography of George Washington offer vivid descriptions of battles he fought in as a young man. Charles F. Hobson, editor, is the author of "The Great Chief Justice: John Marshall and the Rule of Law." He is the editor of "The Law Papers of St. George Tucker" at the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture and was the editor of "The Papers of John Marshall." "A marvelous and much-needed single-volume collection of the writings of America's greatest Chief Justice, selected by the scholar who knows him best." -Gordon Wood, author of "Empire of Liberty" |

John Marshall Harlan II $151.35 John Marshall Harlan (May 20, 1899 December 29, 1971) was an American jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court from 1955 to 1971. His namesake was his grandfather John Marshall Harlan, another associate justice who served from 1877 to 1911. Harlan was a student at Upper Canada College and Appleby College and then at Princeton University. He continued his education at Balliol College, Oxford. Upon his return to the U.S. in 1923 Harlan worked in the law firm of Root, Clark, Buckner Howland while studying at New York Law School. Later he served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and as Special Assistant Attorney General of New York. In 1954 Harlan was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and a year later president Dwight Eisenhower nominated Harlan to the United States Supreme Court following the death of Justice Robert H. Jackson. Harlan is often characterized as a member of the conservative wing of the Warren Court. Marshall University $18.84 In 1837, the people of Guyandotte, then a village on the Virginia frontier, resolved to open a school for their sons and daughters. Tradition says local lawyer John Laidley convinced his neighbors to name the school for his friend, Chief Justice John Marshall. The one-room log cabin that housed those first students soon gave way to a two-story brick building that, with various additions over the years, became the schoolas Old Main. For decades, the cherished landmark has stood like a proud sentinel, watching Marshall grow and evolve into a major university with an enrollment over 16,000.
