China is now the dominant manufacturing nation in the world. Many of the products that we use everyday were manufactured or assembled in China. The low cost of labor in China has created an incentive for corporations to move their manufacturing operations to China. For this reason there is a great demand for employees who can Speak Chinese. There are fantastic career opportunities for those who learn Chinese.
The Chinese language is actually a family of many languages and dialects. The version of Chinese most widely spoken is Mandarin Chinese. Over eight hundred fifty million people speak Mandarin as their native language. Another version of Chinese is Cantonese. The official language of the People's Republic of China is Mandarin.
Many corporations that do business in China are seeking employees who can speak the language. Clearly, knowing the Chinese language is a qualification that employers find very attractive. This is because of the ascent of China as a major manufacturing power.
Learning any foreign language is a daunting task. It requires a huge commitment in time and diligence. Chinese, in particular, is a very difficult language to learn. There are now language learning programs that can make learning a language, like Chinese, much easier.
Mainland China is a very large country. Most of the Chinese people are in poverty. The country is ruled by a communist dictatorship. Over the past few decades China has become more open in terms of economic development and expansion. Companies all over the world manufacture or assemble their products in China because of the low cost of labor. This has created a demand for business managers who are fluent in the Chinese language. A knowledge of Chinese is a good qualification to have on one's resume. Event though China now has a thriving middle class and has experienced an increase in prosperity, the majority of the people still live in poverty. Most of the population live in the rural areas. These rural areas are undeveloped and should be considered third world. There is a lot of migration from the rural areas to the factory cities. China is definitely a nation in a state of transformation.
Where once only a few universities offered courses in Chinese, now many colleges and even some high schools teach Chinese. Business schools in particular encourage the study of Chinese. There are more private for profit language institutes that offer Chinese classes. In general, more people find it necessary to learn the language because of the business environment.
It was not that long ago when the Chinese government restricted travel to China. Now these restrictions have been somewhat relaxed. There are more people taking trips to China. While most travel to China is for business purposes, there is an increase in tourism. There are also more academics and scientists traveling to China for educational purposes. A foreign traveler in China must be aware of the laws and the customs of this country. They are very different than in the West.
Increased business and employment opportunities result when you learn Chinese. There is a demand for intelligent and ambitious graduates who can speak the language well. Businesses need people who can effectively communicate in the language. For those who are in the process of deciding their future, many opportunities will arise for fulfilling careers in international business. Taking a Chinese language course is a great way to learn new languages.

Chinese Railways $129 Although being huge by any measure, Chinese Railways are a bottleneck for economic growth in China. The state-owned enterprise returns a small profit but is severely capacity constrained and burdened with inefficiency. A comprehensive reform and efficiency improvement program needs to be developed in order to enable Chinese Railways to support further GDP growth in China. Application of industrial economics to the case of Chinese Railways suggests that moderate deregulation of e.g., the freight business could make Chinese Railways fit for future growth. Operational improvements need to complement this development, such as a redesign of the schedule or the introduction of value added services in the freight business. Based on interviews with Chinese experts, benchmarking with railways in the US, Germany, Russia, and Japan as well as broad coverage of Chinese-language sources, the book makes detailed recommendations on how to design a comprehensive turnaround program for Chinese Railways. |

Chinese Palaces $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Chinese Palaces are some of the most elaborate structures that have ever been constructed. There is a long history of imperial rule in China, and the palaces were the sites where the royal court resided, as well as many government bureaucrats and functionaries. The English word palace is used to translate the Chinese word (pronounced gng in Mandarin). This character represents two rooms connected (), under a roof (). Originally the character applied to any residence or mansion, but starting with the Qin Dynasty (3rd century Be it was used only for the residence of the emperor and members of the imperial family. Chinese palaces are different from postRenaissance European palaces because they do not consist of a single building only. Instead, Chinese palaces are huge spaces surrounded by one or more walls and moats and containing large separated halls ( din) for ceremonies and official business, as well as smaller buildings, temples, towers, residences, galleries, courtyards, gardens, and outbuildings, more like the Roman or Carolingian palatium. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 104 Publication Date: 2010/07/10 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.24 inches |

The Chinese Puzzle $14.99 "I want to help you understand China and her Church. There is much confusion and many questions persist: Does persecution exist? Can Christians in China worship freely? Is it still necessary to smuggle Bibles? Being outside of China, how can I most effectively pray for and engage in God's work in China? How do the Chinese view life? Many people are confused by these questions and issues. China is like a huge puzzle, with many pieces and moving parts; it's hard to identify all that is happening today in China. There are some people are trying to describe the whole picture, when all they really have are two or three pieces of a 500-piece puzzle. In the book, The Chinese Puzzle, I'll give you the other pieces for a much clearer picture of China and her Church. This is a great book for individual or group study Mike Falkenstine is the Founder and President of China Resource Center, (www.ChinaResourceCenter.org) a Christian organization that exists to serve the rapid growth and development of the Church in China through rural Bible Distribution Events, Church Building and Theological Training. China Resource Center also has a heart to clarify Western perceptions of Christianity in China. Mike has nearly 20 years experience ministering to Chinese, including time living in his 'second hometown' of Tianjin. After years of China ministry, he is conversationally fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and is a Chinese history, culture and food aficionado, with a deep heart for the Chinese people. Mike's favorite thing about China, besides his Chinese friends, is the food and likes Taiyuan's noodles and Tianjin's 'Goubuli' dumplings the best. Married to Sherie for 11 years, Mike and his wife have 3 childrenand one Wheaton Terrier. They live in Douglas County, Colorado." |

A Fictional History of the United States: With Huge Chunks Missing $3.95 "This is a 'people's history' with tongue in cheek, delightfully funny, imaginative, but with a subtle undertone of seriousness. I enjoyed it immensely." --HOWARD ZINN, author of "A People's History of the United States" Original stories & artwork by: Daniel Alarcon, Amy Bloom, Kate Bornstein, Alexander Chee, T Cooper, Keith Knight, Ron Kovic, Paul La Farge, Felicia Luna Lemus, Adam Mansbach, Valerie Miner, Tommy O'Malley, Neal Pollack, David Rees, Sarah Schulman, Darin Strauss, and Benjamin Weissman. History is distorted the moment it's recorded--and in these politically dishonest times, challenging the stories we're told is more important than ever. In this groundbreaking anthology of original fiction, a diverse group of America's best writers takes on the task of creating counter-narratives to mainstream American history. Here are some of the moments and the people left out of the textbooks. Here is what else happened--on the margins of American life, and in between the lines of our history books. "A Fictional History of the United States with Huge Chunks Missing" brings together an eclectic array of celebrated authors and cartoonists to create a patchwork, anecdotal history of this complicated country. From the Chinese discovery of America in 1426 to the new McCarthyism of a post-9-11 world, this collection recasts everything from the moon landing to the Lindbergh kidnapping, westward expansion to the sexual proclivities of Civil War officers. Riveting, inventive, and politically vital, this anthology picks up--and yanks on--America's supposed commitment to seeking the truth . . . even if that truth is revealed in fiction. T Cooper is the author of the novels "Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry Blondes" (Dutton) and "Some of the Parts" (Akashic). T lives in New York City. For more information visit www.t-cooper.com. Adam Mansbach is the author of the novels "Angry Black White Boy" (Crown), "Shackling Water" (Doubleday), and the forthcoming "The End of the Jews" (Spiegel & Grau/Doubleday). He lives in Berkeley, California. For more information visit www.adammansbach.com. |

Globalization of Chinese Companies $96.59 Over the past 30 years, China has enjoyed the longest and most rapid economic development in history. As part of that phenomenon, Chinese companies such as Lenovo, Huawei and Haier have in recent years increasingly stepped up their internationalization efforts in order to compete globally. Despite the huge business impact and future implications, there is little academic literature on globalization trend of Chinese companies from a corporate strategic perspective, since most of the existing literature derives from a macroeconomic standpoint. This book therefore provides a pioneering and refreshing analysis of the global corporate strategies and development of two of the largest Chinese companies (Huawei ZTE), in one of the most fastpaced industries (telecommunications). Using a proven analysis framework, key characteristics of the globalization strategies of Chinese companies were identified and analyzed. This book aims to shed some light on corporate strategies of Chinese companies with global aspirations, and should be especially useful to senior executives in multinational companies, or anyone else interested in understanding Chinese corporate behavior and global strategies. Author: Jiang, Kevin Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 100 Publication Date: 2008/09/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.21 inches |
