6. Cover it.

By covering your polarized light microscope, for instance, you are ensuring that it will be clean the next time someone uses it. As such, you take away the need to wipe it and blow off dust from it. In effect, you are taking out the possibility of over-cleaning and "mis-cleaning -"both of which are detrimental to the well-being of your microscope.
