The United States Mint has seen tremendous success with it's coin program that honors America's first spouses through the issue of 1/2-ounce $10 gold coins that feature the likeness of each spouse along with other important information. The Gold First Spouse Coins will be released on approximately the same schedule as the $1 Presidential Coins that are currently in production. Each coin will be released in the order in which each spouse served their term, or terms. At present time, all of the First Spouses have so far been women.
The obverse of the Gold First Spouse Coin displays a portrait of each of our country's first spouses, along with the name of each spouse, the dates of each term that they served and the year that the gold coin was released. The phrases "Liberty" and "In God We Trust," are also proudly displayed.
The reverse of the coins display the inscriptions "The United States of America" "E Pluribus Unum" "1/2 oz." "$10" and ".9999 Fine Gold." Each of the coins also exhibits a unique and different reverse display that features a portrait of events that were important to the like and history of the spouse who is featured.
On the occasion that one of the President's served in office without the company of a first spouse, a gold coin is then released that features an image on the coin's obverse that would be representative of a Liberty design as it would have been depicted on a coin that was in circulation in the time period that the President served his term. The reverse image on these coins will depict events or a theme representative of that President. The coins would be issued in cases where Presidents such as Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren served in office without a First Spouse.
The Gold First Spouse Coins will see release at varying times throughout the calendar year. They are to be issued one at a time, spaced in increments of every few months. The release of each coin will be preceded by an official announcement by the Mint, usually a number of weeks prior to the actual period that the coins are offered for sale.
The Coins are set to be scheduled for release through to 2016.
The Gold First Spouse Coins to date:
2007: Martha Washington Abigail Adams Jefferson's Liberty Dolley Madison
2008: Elizabeth Monroe Louisa Adams Jackson's Liberty Van Buren's Liberty
2009: Anna Harrison Letitia Tyler Julia Tyler Sarah Polk Margaret Taylor
The coins are strictly limited in release, available from the Mint for one year only. As the popularity of these beautiful coins continues to soar, investor and collector demand is sure to grow.
James Kirkwood writes articles that keep you up to date on the latest products from the United States Mint, including the beautiful and rare First Spouse Coin, including the inaugural Martha Washington First Spouse Coin along with other gold, silver and platinum coins.

Polk $13.99 In Polk , Walter R. Borneman gives us the first complete and authoritative biography of a president often overshadowed in image but seldom outdone in accomplishment. James K. Polk occupied the White House for only four years, from 1845 to 1849, but he plotted and attained a formidable agenda: He fought for and won tariff reductions, reestablished an independent Treasury, and, most notably, brought Texas into the Union, bluffed Great Britain out of the lion’s share of Oregon, and wrested California and much of the Southwest from Mexico. On reflection, these successes seem even more impressive, given the contentious political environment of the time. In this unprecedented, long-overdue warts-and-all look at Polk’s life and career, we have a portrait of an expansionist president and decisive statesman who redefined the country he led, and we are reminded anew of the true meaning of presidential accomplishment and resolve. From the Trade Paperback edition. |

Presidents from Adams through Polk, 1825-1849 $88 It was the Era of Good Feelings, but all was not well with the young Republic. From 1825 to 1849, presidents John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and James K. Polk grappled with the legacy of the Monroe Doctrine, Indian removal, territorial expansion, the National Bank, tariffs, economic depressions, War with Mexico, near war with Great Britain, and the place of slavery in the growing nation. As one would expect from confident citizens of the burgeoning young country, conflicting arguments swirled around the hot-button issues of the day. This rich resource of primary documents enables students to read these arguments first hand, and feel the passions and study the logic driving their often forceful positions. All of the primary documents are annotated and placed into historical context. A thorough index concludes the work. |

Polk CountyFlorida $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Polk County is a county located in the U.S. in Florida. As of 2000, the population was 483,924. The U.S. Census Bureau 2006 estimates the county population to be 561,606. The county seat is Bartow. Its largest city is Lakeland. The center of population of Florida is located in the city of Lake Wales. Polk County became Floridas 39th county on February 8, 1861, when the State of Florida divided Hillsborough County into eastern and western halves. The eastern half was named Polk, in honor of the 11th President of the United States, James Knox Polk. Polk was sworn in as president on the day after Floridas March 3, 1845 statehood. Following the Civil War, the county commission established the county seat on 120 acres (0.49 km2) donated in the central part of the county. Bartow, the county seat, was named after Francis S. Bartow, a confederate Colonel from Georgia who was the first confederate officer to die in battle during the first battle of the Civil War.
