Android phones - good, better, best
"
Since the launch of Android, Google's mobile OS has turned up in pretty much every market segment out there, including entry-level all the way up to the top-end. Let's take a gander at the best Android mobiles on the market in each segment.
Sony Ericsson X10 Mini
We begin by taking a look at a handset for customers who want a smartphone, but who don't want a oversized mobile or a phone that costs a lot to buy: the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini. As should be apparent from the name, the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini is a smaller-sized incarnation of the Xperia X10. They have taken the best stuff the X10, and squeezed it down into a brand new body designed to make the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini, even as a smartphone, incredibly small. And so, for customers who would like a smartphone which is 'weeny' enough to fit in the most restricted pockets, the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini is the handset to buy.
HTC Wildfire
Android is trying to take over the mid-range, too, and it can now be found the gorgeous HTC Wildfire. This phone has all of the good bits which made its more powerful sibling (the HTC Desire) so nice, but puts it all in a smaller, more affordable body, which remains both slick and beautiful. Of course, being put in that mid-range shell means that the HTC Wildfire hasn't got the 1GHz chipset of the Desire, but it is still fast and responsive. It also has the Sense UI, installed on top of Android in the HTC Wildfire, again like its older predecessor. Based on that reasoning, if you would like something that isn't far off the Desire in terms of specs, but which won't cost the earth, then the HTC Wildfire is absolutely perfect.
Samsung Galaxy S
In conclusion, then, there is the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini which has a super-small frame, and then there is the HTC Wildfire, the mid-range sibling to the HTC Desire. And finally you've got the the uber-powerful beast, the Samsung Galaxy S, which also has the most impressive screen of any phone on this list. Measuring a whopping 4 inches, it is just immense, and the WVGA, 800x480 resolution makes it genuinely easy to use things such as scrollbars in menus. On top of the OS, the front end that you interact with built around Samsung's TouchWiz UI. It is wonderfully easy to use, and whilst it isn't as sublime (but then, what is?) as HTC's Sense UI, it ( in addition to the super fast 1GHz Hummingbird chipset) is the biggest reason why the Samsung Galaxy S is such an unmitigated joy to live with, day to day. However, it's not all about raw power, a mobile has to have worthwhile features and the Samsung Galaxy S has got them in spades, from the 5MP camera, and GPS, to lightning speedy HSDPA internet access ( and, of course, Google's brilliant WebKit browser), which is why a lot customers believe this to be one of the most impressive mobile phones that has ever been made.

Better $14.38 The struggle to perform well is universal, but nowhere is this drive to do better more important than in medicine. In his new book, Atul Gawande explores how doctors strive to close the gap between best intentions and best performance in the face of obstacles that sometimes seem insurmountable. His vivid stories take us to battlefield surgical tents in Iraq, to a polio outbreak in India and to malpractice courtrooms around the country. He discusses the ethical dilemmas of doctors' participation in lethal injections, examines the influence of money on modern medicine and recounts the astoundingly contentious history of hand-washing. Finally, he gives a brutally honest insight into life as a practising surgeon. Unflinching but compassionate, Gawande's investigation into medical professionals and their progression from good to great provides a detailed blueprint for success that can be used by everyone. |

Good, Bad...Better $4.5 After years of feeling as if she has "Good Girl" stenciled across her forehead, Jen Truitt's ready to cut loose and have some fun. And because number one on her to-do list is a naughty tattoo, naturally a tat-artist with taut muscles sheathed in black leather would have to be number two.... Zach Jacobs can feel the heat of the slim dancer's body and he's sure there's a wild woman inside Jen just begging to be set free. But even a bad boy knows he should behave better when he's around the police chief's daughter. Lucky for Jen that doesn't mean he's actually planning on being good! |

For Better: The Science of a Good Marriage $4.99 WeÂ’ve all heard the statistic: Fifty percent of marriages end in divorce. ItÂ’s enough to make many couples give up when the going gets rough, thinking thatÂ’s what everybody else does. But what if it werenÂ’t true? What if, in fact, itÂ’s not only possible but often easier than you think to save a seemingly troubled relationship? These are the questions Tara Parker-Pope asked herself after her own divorce. An investigative journalist on the health and wellness beat, she turned to some of the top biologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, and other scientists for the facts about marriage and divorce. Those facts were more positive and provocative than sheÂ’d ever expected, and For Better offers page after page of astonishing, eye-opening good news. Parker-Pope presents the science behind why some marriages work and others donÂ’t; the biology behind why some spouses cheat and others remain faithful; the best diagnostic tools created by the most cutting-edge psychologists to assess the probability of success in getting married, staying married, or remarrying. There are questionnaires to uncover potentially damaging hidden attitudes toward spouses. There are tools to show the impact of routine, fresh activity and how small adjustments can make a huge difference. Tara Parker-PopeÂ’s genius is for exploring the science behind the big issues that affect our lives every day and translating that science into advice that we can use - every day. For Better is the definitive guide to the most profound relationship of our lives. |

Good, Better, Best Buy $2.99 For any company contemplating a major course correction, the tale of Best Buy is instructive. It illustrates both the size of the opportunities and the range of difficulties an organization can encounter in accomplishing transformative change. And the story is still being written. In the current economic downturn, with discretionary purchases like electronics plunging, Best Buy’s transformation is being put to the test with encouraging results. Here’s what you can learn. For years, Best Buy thrived as one of America’s leading national electronics retail chains. It had built its reputation and market share over three-and-a-half decades, along the way embracing the big-box superstore and the growing line of electronic products within. Indeed, the company and its employees were focused on the bevy of products Best Buy offered, which was fine with its tech-savvy customers. But, as rapidly evolving technology added more and more sophisticated products to retailers’ shelves, the ranks of the not-so-savvy began to expand. Then came the day in 2002 when Best Buy’s new chief executive realized the need for change—big change. In the years since, the company has remade itself into an organization that concentrates relentlessly on its customers. New Word City, publishers of digital originals, contributes 10 percent of its profits to literacy causes. |
