Dragons Handed Over The Keys Of Wollongong, After The Final Victory
St George Illawarra Dragons players have been complied with, the keys to the NRL premiership win.
Wollongong Wollongong City Council yesterday backed homecoming party Wollongong Entertainment Centre, attended by players and about 4000 people.
Director of the Council David Farmer has been described as a very proud day city.He says eleven years and expects to win the Premiership is over.
"I think it's something that is positive for our community, is a goal," he said. "I think what is important is not just a club but the players." There were ten local boys in the game, 2-8 with the Roosters and Dragons, and I think it was an excellent performance. "
Meanwhile, Dragons Hooker Dean Young thanked the fans for their support during his first year's winner Dragons.
"The fans were great throughout the year or if your Wollongong Kogarah always come to us and to thank all the players," was said.
Young full of emotion after the game Sunday, embracing his father was captain of the winning team Dragons Premier League side 1979.
The Saint George Illawarra Dragons players have been honoured with a set of keys to the city of Wollongong for their NRL premiership win.
A sea of red and white greeted Dragons players as they took to the WIN Entertainment Centre stage yesterday.
But there was a smattering of scarlet amongst the crowd.
The old Steelers jerseys present were a reminder of the days when Stanley the Steel Avenger patrolled the Wollongong Showground sidelines.
While the title was the 16th premiership to be celebrated in Kogarah, yesterday was the first time a premiership trophy had made its way to the Illawarra.
