Smythe March 20th Us & Auction world paper money to the entity only known examples of Siam banknotes

Manhattan, New York - March 13, 2008 - The RM Smythe & Company spring paper auction of 20th March 2008 in silver offers 890 lots of paper money to their Manhattan office. One of the most interesting lots of world banknotes will be the specimens of Siam banknotes, in particular denominations of 20, 80, and 100 Tical, are suspected to be the only examples know to exist. They once resided in a Paris museum, were purchased by a dealer 15 years ago for $ 90,000, and recently have been held by the President of the Numismatic Association of Thailand.

The spring sale will also include a wide selection of U.S. and World Notes, including the United States the size of small and large, 50 and 100 FRN Collection size, U.S. size small errors, U.S. Fractional Currency, National Banknotes, Colonial currency, historical documents, Confederate Currency and bonds, currencies obsolete Obsolete Sheets and miscellaneous historical items. Lot # 234 - Bank of Indo-China. [Estimate $ 100,000 to $ 125 000] Decree of 21.1.1875 and 20.2.1888. Bangkok. 1) 12/19/1898. 5 Ticals. P-S101. Copy. Emerald green with printed date. Thumbnail on the left representing oriental woman holding bamboo shoot seated below "France" holding caduceus. Bank of France style with serial numbers 000 and 0.0 block number. Value in English and French. Faux magenta watermark of woman. Two engraved signatures. Text in Chinese and Siamese overprinted in black on the back. In a state impeccable. Uncirculated. 2) 5 Ticals. Copy. Similar to first specimen but without date, zero digits or watermark false front. One engraved signature. Overprint of Chinese and Siamese text absent from the rear, but the Chinese text in the center is printed in emerald green with the rest of the return. Uncirculated. 3) 06/12/1898. 20 Ticals. P-S102. Brown reclining Neptune's trident on the left. Back has black overprint in Chinese and Siamese. Zero counts superimposed on the front in black and magenta watermark false. Two engraved signatures. Space left blank or handwritten signature affixed to the Caissierde Agency. Uncirculated. 4) 7.11.1898. 80 Ticals. P-S103. Light blue with two elephants left and right pillars, two women slept with a tiger and a water buffalo bottom center. Overprint block similar to that on the 20 Tical note, and signature of the cashier of the agency is left blank. Uncirculated. 5) 02/31/1898. 100 Ticals. P-S104. Red with Vasco da Gama to the leftist and Polynesia with paddle above dragon boat right. Sailboats on the lower center. Similar overprints those in the last three lots and the signature area of the Agency Cashier left blank. Uncirculated. [5]
Courtesy Ministry Colonies, the Bank of Indochina opened a branch in Bangkok February 22, 1897. The printing of banknotes for use in the use Siam was first considered 27 April 1897, and a series of four values (5, 20, 80 and 100 Ticals) adopted the design of the first series of notes issued for Indochine but with texts and colors modified. Each value has a different design, and there are different dates.

Lot # 235 - Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation. 18xx. 400 Ticals. [Estimate $ 15,000 to $ 20,000] P-S127r2. Salmon and green front with the Chinese text and Siamese overprint in black. Royal Arms at top center. Back red-orange with text overprinted in black Siamese. Two columns "CANCELLED" perforations. Of December 1895 handwritten in black ink in the top right margin. Highest denomination reported in the standard catalog. Extremely rare. Has a After a few corner fold and glue remnants of light along a line in the back. Choice AU.

Lot # 247 - Thomas De La Rue. [Estimate $ 20,000 to $ 25 000] Presentation album with proof design front and rear for a ticket of 1000 baht unissued. The violet-colored front has a portrait of King Rama IX to the left of Field Marshall uniform that closely resembles the portrait on the note 1 of the question Baht 1953-56ND. The return in the right panel has a recessed central vignette showing activities surrounding the major regional products of Thailand: rubber, timber, fish and rice. There is evidence of declining unadopted cuts whose backs are each independently any of these activities. Uncirculated.

This album is owned by the Chairman of the Board currency and is believed to be unique. There is minor corner wear on the red album, and a few light spots on the boards inside, but evidence test themselves are clear and without problems.

Lot # 298 $ 10. Fr.95B.1863. No.5317. Choice Uncirculated. [Estimate $ 12,500 to $ 15 000] A beautiful note of freshness with exceptional color and paper quality. A chicane would tip corner once in the upper right that extends only 1mm Note. Perfectly centered on the back and shifted slightly to the right on the forehead. Chance to acquire this very type of degree higher are increasingly rare.

Lot # 523 - California Ch.12454. Los Angeles. NB Pacific. $ 50. Fr.685. [Estimate $ 8500 to $ 9500] 1902 PB. No. 7 B. 63 Choice Uncirculated. A $ 15 to a single number 50 1902PBs recorded in T & P, which all rank about the same as this piece. They are very quick sellers, and the offer does not demand. Britain embossing and originality can be clearly seen through the PMG 63 EPQ holder.

Lot # 296 $ 5. Fr.70. 1880. No.Z357532. Gem Uncirculated. [Estimate $ 8000 to $ 10 000] One of the best known large brown seal Fr-70 Imprint. Originality embossing and overall are clearly visible through the door of the GCC Gem65. The report shows two PMG population aged 65 and 66. A PMG63 sold last year for 9200 $. This beauty should fetch at least that amount.

Lot # 596 - Continental Currency Counterfeit Detector. Act of September 26, 1778. Sheet of $ 5 - $ 7 - $ 8 - $ 20 - $ 40 - $ 50 - $ 60. [Estimate $ 4000 to 8000] Blue Book. Counterfeit detectors were printed using plates and real Distributed banks and merchants to prevent fraud. The blue color is meant to stop the notes to be completed and distributed. Extremely rare in sheet form. Three small edge split on the left margin, otherwise Uncirculated.

Lot # 301 to $ 100. Fr.204. 1863. EF-AU. [Estimate $ 6000 to 8000] Lovely proof obverse of the $ 100 note interest for two years with three bearings coupons attached. Printed on thick paper. Plate letter A. Dated December 1, 1963. Three Cancellations small hole through the signatures on the note, and two by the Chittenden unique signature on the coupons. The paper has all sharp corners with two vertical folds, one by the center and the other along the border with the coupons. Issued only two examples are known, and far from being as rare, the evidence is very rare .. The letter D plate proof in VF condition sold earlier this year for $ 6900.
