The Uruguayans finished fifth in the World Cup qualifying stage and beat out Costa Rica to secure a World Cup berth (something they failed to do four years ago). The two-time World Cup winners are not the South American powerhouse they use to be several decades ago but La Celeste are not going into this tournament just looking for a brief stint in Africa. Star players such as the in demand Diego Forlan, Ajax star Luis Suarez, and captain Diego Lugano will have to bring their A game if they are to delve deeper into this competition.
France Captain Thierry Henry had more than a hand in the qualification of his country, both figuratively and literally. We can't change the past now, however, and Les Bleus will once again try to lift the World Cup in the face of quite high odds. France's winning veterans have been mostly replaced by youngsters, and with several stars on their team-sheet, we might just see another party in Paris in mid-July.
