This article will try to explain how to fix the "Your computer has recovered from a serious problem" error. But why does this error appear? If Windows XP has needed to restart because of a "serious" error, the Windows Error Reporting tool will prompt for the problem to be reported to Microsoft by presenting the "System has recovered from a serious error" message during the startup/boot process. Windows may continue to display this message and prompt for this information after every restart, even if no other errors occurred following the original, serious error. Who would want to see "Your computer has recovered from a serious problem" every time?
A user using a registry cleaner will surely not! Try protecting your registry with a registry cleaner (RegistryEasy is very recommended) and see how errors disappear! In order to pinpoint the exact location of the error, you must clearly see the full "Your computer has recovered from a serious problem" error message. Under it there are some letters and numbers, pointing to the faulty module. It could be Page file, RAM, drivers, or any other component of your computer. To make sure you have the time to see the full error message, you must turn off the automatic restart option. Please do the following:
Right Click the My Computer icons Go to properties In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab Under the Startup and Recovery area, click on the Settings button In the Startup and Recovery window, UNCHECK the check box next to Automatically restart Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window Click OK in the System Properties window
From now on, when a problem causes a major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. However, rebooting (resetting) manually will be necessary. Isn't that quite a hassle for a "Your computer has recovered from a serious problem" error? It wouldn't be if you would have just used a registry cleaner. The error would have never appeared in the first place! Basically, the error comes from the page file, so recreating the page file will resolve this issue. Here is what Microsoft has to say about it: "This problem occurs after a memory dump file (error log file) is written by Windows XP. Because the memory dump file flag not reset in Windows XP the memory dump file will continue to be written every time Windows is restarted". You can follow the instructions below to fix the problem:
Click Start , right-click My Computer , and then click Properties Click the Advanced tab On the Advanced tab, in the Performance section, click Settings In the Virtual Memory section, click Change For Paging file size for selected drive, click No Paging File , and then click Set Click Yes after the following warning appears: "If the paging file on volume X: has an initial size of less than xx megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyway?" - X is the drive letter and xx is the amount of RAM installed on your computer minus 1 megabyte Click System Managed Size Click OK four times to return to the Windows Desktop Screen and then restart
