Looking to do business online? Have a major passion and want to use it to your advantage? If you answer yes to these then this book "Crush It" by Gary Vaynerchuck is just what you need to read.
So lets get on with the review. First of all to those who don't know or have never heard of Gary Vaynerchuck here is brief overview of Gary
Gary was born in what is know known as Belarus before migrating with his family to the USA. From these roots it became apparent that Gary had the entrepreneur spirit in him as well as a passion for Wine. His Father went on to own a Wine/Liquor store that Gary helped turn into a $60 million a year business. Gary is now better known for the Winelibrary TV website which is a regular video cast of wine related subject matter!
Crush IT is a raw and appealing read for anyone interested in pursuing their passion in the online world, something that Gary has done to huge aplomb with his Wine Library TV site. It starts with a bit of a history of Gary and his formative years and how he developed his business skills at an early age and took this through to the position he now finds himself in. This may seem like a typical rags to riches type story, but it really does not come across like that and sets the scene for the rest of the book.
The key message throughout is that if you have a passion, now is very much the time to get out and use it to your advantage. Gary highlights that the barriers to entry for content creation are so low and the ability to monetize this content so readily available that now more than ever is the time to cash in and Crush It!
A comprehensive section on the tools that are available is included and he also offers up a tried and tested marketing plan to get you on the right tracks. I liked the fact that he does not dumb down that to make a living online, takes an awful lot of hard work and commitment.
The book is well written, raw in its approach and easy to follow and if I were to draw a parallel to other business books it would sit very nicely with "Get Off Your Arse" by Brad Burton. Both have similar approaches.
Its a very enjoyable read and a valuable edition to any budding online entrepreneurs library

Morphic Resonance: The Nature of Formative Causation $18.52 New updated and expanded edition of the groundbreaking book that ignited a firestorm in the scientific world with its radical approach to evolution - Explains how past forms and behaviors of organisms determine those of similar organisms in the present through morphic resonance - Reveals the nonmaterial connections that allow direct communication across time and space When A New Science of Life was first published the British journal Nature called it "the best candidate for burning there has been for many years." The book called into question the prevailing mechanistic theory of life when its author, Rupert Sheldrake, a former research fellow of the Royal Society, proposed that morphogenetic fields are responsible for the characteristic form and organization of systems in biology, chemistry, and physics--and that they have measurable physical effects. Using his theory of morphic resonance, Sheldrake was able to reinterpret the regularities of nature as being more like habits than immutable laws, offering a new understanding of life and consciousness. In the years since its first publication, Sheldrake has continued his research to demonstrate that the past forms and behavior of organisms influence present organisms through direct immaterial connections across time and space. This can explain why new chemicals become easier to crystallize all over the world the more often their crystals have already formed, and why when laboratory rats have learned how to navigate a maze in one place, rats elsewhere appear to learn it more easily. With more than two decades of new research and data, Rupert Sheldrake makes an even stronger case for the validity of the theory of formative causation that can radically transform how we see our world and our future. |

Formative Assessment and Science Education $150.8 Formative Assessment and Science Education documents the findings of a research project which investigated the ways in which teachers and students used formative assessment to improve the teaching and learning of science in some New Zealand classrooms. The research documented in this book used the definition of formative assessment as the process used by teachers and students to recognise and respond to students' learning, in order to enhance that learning, during the learning'. The book contains one detailed case study from the research, as well as cameos of instances of formative assessment. The book also contains two summaries of the research findings - a model developed to describe the process of formative assessment used by the teachers and students involved in the research, and a summary of the characteristics of formative assessment. The findings are also theorised with respect to sociocultural and discursive views of learning. This research will be of interest to graduate students and researchers, as well as teacher educators, curriculum developers, and assessment specialists. |

Formative Assessment and All That Jazz $146.58 The findings of this research essentially indicate that formative assessment strategies, when engaged regularly and properly, are effective in informing teaching practice. Furthermore, the findings suggest that teachers who regularly collaborate about their practice are more effective and more likely to attempt new formative assessment strategies in their practice. This collaboration, within a supportive professional learning community, affords the practice of a more guaranteed and viable curricular experience for students as well as reflective and improved pedagogy among the teachers engaged in the study. Similar to the practice of jazz musicians who collaborate in an environment where mentoring of younger musicians helps to nurture improvisational skills, we attempted to use collaboration as a vehicle to nurture our practice of formative assessment and our pedagogy as teachers.
