All About World Series Programs
World Series programs are the most sought after collections in the history of sports memorabilia. These programs most often sell for at least a thousand dollars and most have attracted large sums. These programs are no more available and were officially abandoned in 1974 when only one official program was released for fall series. The programs are a rare commodity because every team used to publish one or two of their own every year.
In terms of monetary compensation, the classic World Series programs act as some of the finest memorabilia. The first World Series program of 1903 was originally priced at 10 cents but it can fetch over $20000 in mint condition. Recent auctions have seen early 20th century World Series programs sold at an average of $1500 and $3000 for New York Giants and Boston Red Sox issued programs, respectively. The Chicago issued White Sox program of 1919 is famous for its throwing scandal that attracts over a couple of thousand dollars. These usually sell anywhere from $200 to $800.
It must be noticed that not all the World Series programs sell at a higher price. The final price depends upon the team, the history associated with the team at that particular year and the year in question. The heritage auction galleries and Robert Edward auctions are the premier places to sell and buy these masterpieces. Sports Collectors Digest is one of the few publications to locate further information on World Series memorabilia and prices of such programs.
If you ever come across any of the rare pieces of paper, talk to one of the experts in the industry to get your money worth. Not all buyers visit the Leland auctions; therefore it is not a bad idea to contact a collector shop in your area. You may also contact one of the famous sports bar to advertise to an interested audience. Whatever the case may be, if you ever get your hands on one of these collectibles, know that you have hit a memorabilia jackpot.
