Get Creative when you are Starting a Dollar Store
Whether you are just starting a dollar store or you own a dollar store that is already open and operating, one of the key actions for long term success is to always watch the marketplace and then to make required adjustments to your business. You must be aware of more than just trends in the popularity of general dollar store merchandise. You must know the best strategies for marketing, changes in buying patterns, and other important changes that could impact your success. But most dollar store owners are very busy. They need to know where this type of information can be found without spending hours searching. This information is readily available from dollar store suppliers, national retailers, dollar store trade shows, and even small local competitors. Read on as I present 6 great places to obtain the information you need to make sound decisions for your business.
Watch local competitors who own a dollar store. When starting a dollar store make it a point to spend the time to go out and meet the competition. Introduce yourself. Let them know you are opening and if they are ever in the area of your store to stop in and see your store. Local store owners are often very happy to provide ideas and feedback. They know the local market, dollar store merchandise that sells and much more. Take the information they provide as a gift. For many of these store owners this comes after many years of experience in the industry. You may choose not to take their ideas, but thank them for providing them to you.
Pay special attention to big, national dollar discount chains. They have access to products, trends and strategies from across the country. Some ideas will be good and should be considered. Others may not fit for your shoppers, or your budget. However these ideas can provide the catalyst for a new idea you might have for your business.
Look at other retailers as they modify their store formats. Be especially focused on discount retailers. Most are tied into the marketplace and know the customers you are targeting in your business. When you own a dollar store make it your practice to periodically walk through their stores. Watch the business news for actions that are planning and results they are achieving. Then see if their ideas might be modified to work for your business.
Attend dollar store trade shows. Most dollar store owners think of dollar store trade shows as means of finding new dollar store merchandise and the dollar store suppliers that carry those items. The better dollar store trade shows offer much more. They offer lectures and demonstrations containing cutting edge information.
Examine changes being made by major dollar store suppliers. When starting a dollar store you will find the better dollar store suppliers really have their finger on the pulse of the industry. They know much more than just what dollar store merchandise is selling. They know techniques that are building sales. They know what appear to be the next buyer trends.
Read industry and other retail publications. Dollar discount publications are a great source of information about new dollar store merchandise. However, when you own a dollar store expand to more mainstream business publications as well. They offer industry results, trends and forecasts, and many profile businesses that have achieved great results.
To your success when you own a dollar store!

A Dollar Short $14.99 It isn't every day a movie star steals your husband. When that day comes for Chiffon Butrell, of Cayboo Creek, South Carolina, she looks to the Bottom Dollar Girls to help her out of one fine mess. As a waitress at the local Wagon Wheel restaurant, Chiffon pegs her fortunes to a winning entry in a local video store's Be-a-Movie-Star contest. But her celluloid dreams are dashed when her baby takes sick and her husband, Lonnie -- one fine specimen of Southern manhood -- heads for the Hollywood Hills solo. On set, he turns the head of leading lady Janie-Lynn Lauren, whose siren call is Oscar caliber. Back in Cayboo Creek, Chiffon manages to lose her temper and her job in quick succession -- only to discover that Lonnie's paycheck from the Nutra-Sweet plant has been forwarded to a California address. With three kids to feed, Chiffon comes up more than a dollar short. Her good friends try their best to pitch in. But there are too few hands to lend, what with Elizabeth and her husband, Timothy, expecting their first baby any day and the rest of the Bottom Dollar Girls knee-deep in their secret -- and possibly scandalous -- plan to raise money for the Cayboo Creek Senior Center. When a slick of Wesson Oil at the Winn-Dixie gets the better of Chiffon's ankle, there's just one thing to be done -- call on estranged older sister Chenille, who hails from Bible Grove, South Carolina. A prissy, fussy spinster prone to dressing her dog, Walter, in matching plaid "mother-son" outfits, Chenille is everything former beauty queen Chiffon detests. Suddenly the tabloid media gets wind of Janie-Lynn and Lonnie's torrid romance, landing sleepy Cayboo Creek on the star map. Under the glare of camera lights, the sisters must put aside their longtime grievances to forge a newfound relationship. As crisis reigns, Chenille is welcomed by the Bottom Dollar Girls for her cool head and quick thinking. And when Chenille runs into a little trouble of her own, she begins to see the future in friendship. A rollicking, hilarious novel about two sisters who are each one of a kind, A Dollar Short is a delicious page-turner worth every last cent. |

Desegregating the Dollar $65 Capitalism and slavery stand as the two economic phenomena that have most clearly defined the United States. Yet, despite African Americans' nearly $500 billion annual spending power, surprisingly little attention has been devoted to the ways U.S. businesses have courted black dollars in post-slavery America. Robert E. Weems, Jr., presents the first fully integrated history of black consumerism over the course of the last century. The World War I era Great Migration of African Americans from the rural South to northern and southern cities stimulated initial corporate interest in blacks as consumers. A generation later, as black urbanization intensified during World War II and its aftermath, the notion of a distinct, profitable African American consumer market gained greater currency. Moreover, black socioeconomic gains resulting from the Civil Rights movement which itself featured such consumer justice protests as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, further enhanced the status and influence of African American shoppers. Unwilling to settle for facile answers, Weems explores the role of black entrepreneurs who promoted the importance of the African American consumer market to U.S. corporations. Their actions, ironically, set the stage for the ongoing destruction of black-owned business. While the extent of educational, employment, and residential desegregation remains debatable, African American consumer dollars have, by any standard, been fully incorporated into the U.S. economy. Desegregating the Dollar takes us through the "blaxploitation" film industry, the vast market for black personal care products, and the insidious exploitation of black urban misery by liquor and cigarette advertisers. Robert E. Weems, Jr., has given us the definitive account of the complicated relationship between African Americans, capitalism, and consumerism. |

Fluctuating Dollar (Hardcover) $32.12 America`s currency is 37 percent below fair value against the Australian dollar and 20 percent versus the Canadian dollar, according to the OECD index. The dollar has mainly weakened since Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke signaled last year at an annual conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City that the central bank may boost the economy by printing money and buying bonds. It purchased $600 billion of Treasuries between November and June, contributing to a 6.25 percent drop in the U.S. currency as measured by Bloomberg Correlation-Weighted Indexes. At an annual forum in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Aug. 26 that the central bank still has tools to stimulate the economy without providing details or signaling when or whether policy makers might deploy them. This book will focus on the reasons for the dollar`s decline in relation to what is happening with currencies around the world. It will also offer strategies for investors and individuals who want to protect their money. These strategies will include mention of safer havens for money, alternative investments and other opportunities. |

Robert Dollar Co. No. 3 $100.37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Robert Dollar Co. No. 3 is an operating steam locomotive on the Niles Canyon Railway. It is notable for having been the last woodburning locomotive built for an American company. The No. 3 was built new by the American Locomotive Company for the Walter A. Woodard Lumber Company in November 1927. The Woodard Company assigned the 3 to its sawmill in Cottage Grove, Oregon. In 1942, the sawmill, and the locomotive along with it, was sold to J. H. Chambers Son. They kept it for just 4 years before selling to facility and locomotive to the Lorane Valley Lumber Company in 1946. In 1951, the locomotive was sold again, to the Robert Dollar Lumber Company. The Robert Dollar company converted the locomotive to burn oil, and finally donated it to the San Francisco Maritime Museum Association.
