The process of removing collection accounts from your credit report is very doable, but you must understand what makes it possible, which is the law that governs your credit report and the factors that influence what goes on and comes off your reports.
Most collection accounts that are on your credit report are from third party collection agencies. These are guys that buy bad accounts from creditors for pennies on the dollar and are now entitled to collect the debt from you.
There are a few different ways to have these negatives removed but the first step is to challenge the item with the credit bureaus directly. At that point the bureaus are supposed to launch an investigation into the account and if proper proof is not presented from the collector, the account needs to be removed from your report.
In most cases the process of investigating is not done thoroughly enough to come up with proof that the account is accurate and verifiable in which case it needs to be deleted from your credit report.
In the event that the account is verified, you have other options. One of those options is to pay for the deletion of the item. With this approach you will call up the collection company and try and settle the debt with them in exchange for the account being deleted on your credit report.
Remember that they paid pennies on the dollar for the original debt so don't be afraid to negotiate a settlement with them that is far less than the original amount that you owe. Also receive something in writing saying the account will be deleted from your credit report.

Slow Dollar $3.95 For Judge Knott, the case before her seems to be an ordinary misdemeanor -- except that the personal property that's been destroyed is an inflatable carnival ride. When the carnival comes to her own town a few weeks later, Deborah soon discovers there's nothing ordinary about this rag-tag collection of rides and games. Why does the ride owner's charm bracelet awaken half-forgotten memories? And what is her connection to Deborah's own family? When one of the concessionaires is found dead, his mouth stuffed with quarters from his game of chance, Deborah soon learns that he was also chancing a little blackmail on the side -- blackmail that may threaten one of her brothers. In carnie lingo, "A fast dime is better than a slow dollar." Torn between judicial ethics and family love, Deborah must decide who gets which before more lives are ruined and the carnival moves on. |

A Dollar the Hard Way $29.95 "A Dollar the Hard Way" is a series of stories about the life of a young man growing up and entering adulthood in Southern Illinois during the 1930s and '40s. The book is a gem. Whether he is digging for oil, or searching his soul, Kestner Wallace makes real his early life in the rural Midwest. Each story evokes a time and place gone by, with vividly drawn characters described by a man who is clearly a character in his own right. Whether from the viewpoint of a poor Southern Illinois farm boy, a World War II veteran, a fisherman, or an educator for 42 years starting with one-room schoolhouse days, his stories are notable for both their charming ability to show the lighter side of hard times, as well as their intimate details of historical interest. Wallace's stories have delighted "Springhouse Magazine" readers for over twenty years, For the first time, the full collection is available in one entertaining volume. |
