The Beauty of Etiquette By: Ungenita Katrina Prevost
Would you like to be unforgettable? Perhaps your friends and the people with whom you associate, place less emphasis on the formalities, but believe me when you step over the well defined lines which are laid out in most of the etiquette books currently on the market, you will start to see people react to those indiscretions.
Etiquette is the set of rules, guidelines, and behaviors which aid in building a long term rapport after initial contact.
I want to also add that being polite also shows respect and consideration for others. Apart from how such behaviors might affect you, they strongly reflect on your character. It also shows you have a deep and respectful appreciation for YOURSELF- which is VERY important. Secondly, for those around you.
First impressions are the most lasting. No matter what the occasion, it is always important to present yourself in the best possible manner. You are constantly being observed. If you are seen displaying proper etiquette, that is a much better way to be remembered!
In business etiquette is a beautiful thing…You can have the right look & phenomenal presentation skills but if you wish to be successful in a down economy your contact should be constant. Remember people are inundated with messages every day. You want to stand out in a crowd of thousands, maybe millions or better yet billions.
The Fortune Is In The Follow Up….I'm sure you heard that before. No matter what career you are pursuing; following up should be your daily commandment. It could be worth $500, $5,000 or $50,000 dollars.
I had the pleasure of attending an event with Anna Post. She is Emily Post's great-great-granddaughter and an author and spokesperson for The Emily Post Institute.
Giving advice on modern etiquette dilemmas is Anna's specialty. She suggested following up with a phone call, sending an email, mailing a card & following thru when you say you are going to do something which I think we all should aspire to do more of. There's nothing sexier than when you stand 100% behind what you say and how you show up in the world. Etiquette is not just about forks & knives anymore.
We are all entitled to our own opinions & can make exceptions to the rules that we deem less important however, the higher up in society you want to go you definitely want to have an arsenal of great etiquette up your sleeve so you stand out & make a lasting impression.
Etiquette is a good skill to use in any capacity and a great way to distinguish between the glamorous, rich, lower class, and rude!
