6 Sources of Industry Information when you Open a Dollar Store
One of the challenges faced by those who open a dollar store is how to stay connected to the marketplace. These owners realize they need to know what’s happening in order to build their dollar store sales and dollar store profits. They realize customer preferences change. The dollar store merchandise that is most in-demand today may not even sell at all tomorrow. They know major retailers are constantly tweaking their format, marketing and merchandising strategies in response to changes in the marketplace. Yet as a small store owner it seems overwhelming to come up with the required time, money and ideas to keep building dollar store sales for their business.
One of the keys to making the right changes is to clearly understand what is happening in the marketplace. Armed with that knowledge it is much easier to make the right adjustments to keep your business growing. Read on for 6 sources of industry information.

Check to see if you can find new merchandising and operational practices. But don’t stop there. Read news features and company communications to gain a better understanding of their take on the economy, the marketplace and their shoppers.
#3) General merchandise retailers. Look at other retailers as they modify their store formats. Pay special attention to discounters and retailers that have added dollar formats in their stores. They can be a great source of ideas. While each idea may take a little modification, many will help power your dollar store sales and dollar store profits to new levels.

Salts and Suits: How a Bunch of Surf Bums Created a Multi-Billion Dollar Industry... and Almost Lost It $28.04 The true story of how a group of young beach bums turned their passion for riding big waves into the world's fastest growing leisure industry, surviving wipeouts, drug busts, ripoffs, recessions, and the constant pressure to act and dress like grown-ups Still the darlings of Wall Street despite recent downturns, surfing's biggest brands have crossed the billion dollar threshold by thinking big and staying cool. Drawing on more than 200 interviews with industry figures and the idiosyncratic founders of the leading brands, this book traces the development of surf's biggest brands as they emerged from sleepy beach towns on both sides of the Pacific and paints a compelling picture of the hedonistic lifestyle that gave birth to a multi-billion dollar industry. The beach bum entrepreneurs who started it all--characters like Rip Curl founders "Claw" Warbrick and Brian Singer, Hang Ten founder Duke Boyd, Quiksilver founder Alan Green, Quiksilver America founders Jeff Hakman and Bob McKnight, Ocean Pacific apparel creator Jim Jenks, Billabong founder Gordon Merchant, and O'Neill founder Jack O'Neill--are still involved, some are mega-millionaires, some just struggling by while others milk their creations. This book tells their stories, but more importantly, it tells the story of how, in business, passion can sometimes trump conventional wisdom, and the heart can overrule the head. |

Tall Tales and Other Almost Lies $33.84 Growing up in the country is by far one of the best learning environments any family might desire. Of course, these were the days of dirt roads and friendly neighbors. It was a time when a dollar went a long way and when a meal was included in your pay when working for one of the local farmers. We knew how to make our own fun riding our bikes, playing in the creeks, climbing trees, to say nothing of the amazing pets we enjoyed. Summer or winter, life in the country was great. This is where I had my beginning, and maybe this is why we did all the wild and crazy things you will discover herein. Yes, this is where it all began. |
