The past decade has seen a drastic change in the world of electronic percussion and in the world of percussion drum set is making its presence felt in a vast manner. The toms all look the same, there would not be any kick drum and the cymbals have no metal on them at all and this might look odd to some. These are electronic drum set which are very similar to the drums in the past. But the difference is that they posses many things that are entirely different from the old ones.
Different types of electronic drums are available in the market these days and the first thing is have a clear understanding about them. Many musicians use several other systems for getting percussion sound even though full electronic drum sets are seen quite frequently.
The first category that has to be introduced in the electronic percussion section would be the drum machines. They are almost similar to a small handheld computer and are not so much like a musical instrument. Most of the drum machines would have over three hundred drum sounds from all over the world with some of them even having five to six hundred sounds. Earlier the drum machines were meant to give you a few choices of rhythm and also allowing you to adjust the sped and sound. The new age drum machines have come a long way from this. They make it possible to create one of the thousands of different rhythms and also compose you own rhythm. Moreover it would also permit you to program whole new songs with different variations of rhythm for the chorus, verse and bridge of the song.
After the drum machines, the second category of electronic percussion would be the drum pad. A drum pad consists of six to fifteen different small pads and appears as a small rectangle. They are usually used for practice sessions when it is not possible to access full drum sets. They can even be simply used during any particular inspirational moments so that you can keep a note of the rhythm before you forget them. The sensitivity of the drum pads can be adjusted making it possible to either rip into them with the sticks or just adjust for a lighter touch with Latin drum sounds. Technological advancements have made a big impact over the drum pads as they are producing much better quality sound than before.
Finally the third category is the electronic drum set. On the whole the electronic drum set would look like an entire traditional drum set sans the drums. Earlier it used to be the laughing stock of the musical world but with increased technology on the sensitivity and feel of the drum pads made it a favorite among the musicians recently. For its ability to manipulate sounds, it has become a staple in the beginning stages of many novices. Once you understand the different types of electronic drums, you can make a choice between what you want.

Be Different $9.99 “I believe those of us with Asperger’s are here for a reason, and we have much to offer. This book will help you bring out those gifts.”   In his bestselling memoir,  Look Me in the Eye , John Elder Robison described growing up with Asperger’s syndrome at a time when the diagnosis didn’t exist. He was intelligent but socially isolated; his talents won him jobs with toy makers and rock bands but did little to endear him to authority figures and classmates, who were put off by his inclination to blurt out non sequiturs and avoid eye contact. By the time he was diagnosed at age forty, John had already developed a myriad of coping strategies that helped him achieve a seemingly normal, even highly successful, life. In  Be Different , Robison shares a new batch of endearing stories about his childhood, adolescence, and young adult years, giving the reader a rare window into the Aspergian mind. In each story, he offers practical advice—for Aspergians and indeed for anyone who feels “different”—on how to improve the weak communication and social skills that keep so many people from taking full advantage of their often remarkable gifts. With his trademark honesty and unapologetic eccentricity, Robison addresses questions like: • How to read others and follow their behaviors when in uncertain social situations • Why manners matter • How to harness your powers of concentration to master difficult skills • How to deal with bullies • When to make an effort to fit in, and when to embrace eccentricity • How to identify special gifts and use them to your advantage Every person, Aspergian or not, has something unique to offer the world, and every person has the capacity to create strong, loving bonds with their friends and family.  Be Different  will help readers and those they love find their path to success. |

More and Different (Hardcover) $192.22 Philip Anderson was educated at University High School in Urbana, Illinois, at Harvard (BS 1943, PhD 1949), and further educated at Bell Laboratories, where his career (1949-1984) coincided with the greatest period of that remarkable institution. Starting in 1967, he shared his time with Cambridge University (until 1975) and then with Princeton, where he continued full time as Joseph Henry Professor until 1997. As an emeritus he remains active in research, and at press time he was involved in several scientific controversies about high profile subjects, in which his point of view, though unpopular at the moment, is likely to prevail eventually. His colleagues have made him one of the two physicists most often cited in the scientific literature, for several decades. His work is characterized by mathematical simplicity combined with conceptual depth, and by profound respect for experimental findings. He has explored areas outside his main discipline, the quantum theory of condensed matter (for which he won the 1977 Nobel Prize), on several occasions: his paper on what is now called the ?Anderson-Higgs mechanism? was a main source for Peter Higgs` elucidation of the boson; a crucial insight led to work on the dynamics of neutron stars (pulsars); and his concept of the spin glass led far afield, to developments in practical computer algorithms and in neural nets, and eventually to his involvement in the early years of the Santa Fe Institute and his co-leadership with Kenneth Arrow of two influential workshops on economics at that institution. His writing career started with a much-quoted article in Science titled ?More is Different? in 1971; he was an occasional columnist for Physics Today in the 1980s and 1990s. He was more recently a reviewer of science- and science-related books for the Times (London) Higher Education Supplement as well as an occasional contributor to Science, Nature, and other journals. |
